  • Unlike other weapon systems, a naval vessel has unique characteristics in that the vessel itself is a naval unit. In limited space, compartments with various objectives and characteristics need to be arranged, so that vessel performance is maximized. This paper studied a compartment arrangement algorithm that considers activity relationships among compartments and survivability of a vessel. Based on the study, a compartment arrangement application is developed that can generate various layout alternatives swiftly. The application developed in this study aims at automating a two dimensional compartment layout problem. A combinatorial optimization is performed with the differential evolution algorithm to achieve the optimized layout.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the present housing condition of the suburban housing complex, and the residents' preferences to make their living condition better in Yong-in and Yang-pyeong, Pocheon, Kwang-ju and Kimpo in Kyung-Ki province, Korea. Questionnaire survey has been carried out to figure out the current status and residents' preferences of the Suburban housing complexes (hereafter SHC). The study showed the present status and the demands of people for their houses as a result like the below. First, currently the SHCs are managed by a joint control type, and the preferences of the residents' showed the similar way. Because of this status, the SHC planning is supposed to have the self-governing management and community space to support the activity of their community. Second, most SHCs doesn't have many public facility, in contrast, each house has various exteriors. This result shows the residents want more to develop their own houses' exterior than that of the SHC's public facility. Prior to plan the SHC, a program should be considered to give better understanding to residens what is the complexed life and make them choose what they really want to have. Third, the studied SHCs' renovation activities are commonly focussed on the exteriors. This shows the residents' life style is focussed more on the out-door life. The planning for the future SHC is supposed to have the points that could follow up the out-door friendly situations.

  • The various services are required to user in time and space. It is important to provide suitable service to user according to user's circumstance. Therefore it is need to provide services to user through mining by latest information of user activity and service history. In this paper we propose a mining method to search association rule using service history based on spatiotemporal information and service ontology. In this method, we find the associative service pattern using level-cross tree on service ontology. The proposed method is to be a basic research to find the service pattern to provide high quality service to user according to season, location and age under the same context.

  • A literature study on cancer therapy of warm-hot oriental medicine was done, and the results were as follows. 1. In oriental medicine, oncogens are six exopathogens, seven modes of emotion, overwork, pathogenic factors, and especially related with pathologic cold situation. 2. There are many capillaries in tuomr, and because temperature of inner space of tumor is higher than normal organization. Tumor cell has a character which is weak for high temperature. 3. Warm-hot herb drugs have effects of dissipating mass, warming kidney to reinforce yang and dispering, so it has a function of suppressing tumor as well as improving immunity in cancer therapy. 4. In traditional medical books, main prescriptions of cancer therapy are xinzhiyinyanggongjiwan(新製陰陽攻積丸), qianjinxiaoshiwan(千金硝石丸), feiqiwan(肥氣丸), xibenwan(息賁丸), fuliangwan(伏梁丸), beiqiwan, bentunwan(賁豚丸), zengsunwujiwan(增損五積丸), and these are composed of warm-hot herb drugs. 5. In current, the study of warm-hot drugs is progressed in immunological capacity, anti-tumor activity, stimulating bone marrow and regulating hormone secretion. It will be expected that advanced study of these must be accomplished in cancer patients.

  • This article is to investigate the possibility that project-based classes introducing mobile phones can replace the monotony of traditional classes led by teachers as well as they can encourage students to take active part in the classes to some extent. The students in groups choose a genre for their own video projects (e.g., movie, drama, news, documentary, and commercial) and produce the video contents using a mobile phone for presentation made at the end of a semester. In the sense that the students are allowed to do video-based mobile phone projects, they can work independently outside of class, where time and space are more flexible and students are free from the anxiety of speaking or acting in front of an audience. A mobile phone project consists of around five stages done both in and outside of the classroom. All of these stages can be graded independently, including genre selection, drafting of scripts, peer review and revision, rehearsals, and presentation of the video. Feedback is given to students. After the presentation, students filled out a survey questionnaire sheet devised to analyze students' responses toward preferences and level of difficulty of the project activity. Finally, proposals are made for introduction of a better mobile phone-based project classes.

  • Exploring the distant universe by observing various astronomical objects and extending knowledge on the cosmos by applying human intuition and reasoning to observations are astronomers' professional activity. Astronomers are the people born under a lucky star since this elegant and beautiful job is their the only duty. Being in the 21st century we astronomers now know that galaxies are holding evolving stars and gas, and distribute in the infinite spacetime in an interesting way revealing the secrets of the beginning of the universe. Cosmic structures such as galaxies, large-scale structures, and cosmic microwave background fluctuations are also the tracers of the expansion of space and the invisible components of the energy contents of the universe. Unlike the past century we are in a situation where integral knowledge on various cosmic structures as well as that on a variety of observational and analysis tools are available to everyone and often required for our special mission. However, my experience made me think that accumulating critical questions on nature driven by curiosity is vital for researchers and far more important than absorbing knowledge from others and books. Transforming one's own question marks to acclamation marks is the reward of our life. That is THE fun.

  • This Study aims at identifying factor and variables which have significant effects on user satisfaction with recreational resources and facilities in Juwang National Park and there-by establishes indicies of planning and / or management of the park. To test the causal models of this research, the data was gathered by self-administered questionnaires from users in Juwang National Park. The analysis of the data was conducted in two phases. The first analysis dealt with exploratory gactor analysis which identified major factors involved in satisfaction with recreational facilities in Juwang National Park. The second analysis tested the fit of causal models of this research to the data using LISREL methodology. The factor analysis identified six significant factors in satisfaction with recreational resources, The six factors are convenient park facilities, natural landacape resources, linear park facilities, mineral springs and Buddhist temples, commercial and sleeping accommodations, rest areas and open space for passive recreational activity. The second phase analysis tested the fit of the causal model for satisfaction with recreation facilities to the data. The phase identified statistically significant causal links among overall satisfaction with the park, and other indigenous factors and exogenous variables. From these causal relationships, implications for future management of Juwang National Park were suggested.

  • Makespan and cost minimization are two important factors in project investment. This paper considers a multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing costs, subject to a deadline constraint. A number of studies have focused on minimizing makespan or resource availability cost with a specified deadline. This problem assumes a fixed cost for the availability of each renewable resource per period, and the project cost to be minimized is the sum of the variable cost associated with the execution mode of each activity. The presented memetic algorithm (MA) consists of three features: (1) a truncated branch and bound heuristic that serves as effective preprocessing in forming the initial population; (2) a strategy that maintains two populations, which respectively store deadline-feasible and infeasible solutions, enabling the MA to explore quality solutions in a broader resource-feasible space; (3) a repair-and-improvement local search scheme that refines each offspring and updates the two populations. The MA is tested via ProGen generated instances with problem sizes of 18, 20, and 30. The experimental results indicate that the MA performs exceptionally well in both effectiveness and efficiency using the optimal solutions or the current best solutions for the comparison standard.
