  • The performance based design in fire detection system, the effect of high airflow and dilution of smoke produced in any fire situation serve to increase the response time of point-type smoke detectors. This study investigated the smoke density of ceiling, under the air stream and in normal status when fire type is smoldering fires. The result of study, smoke generated in the fire was swept away from nearby spot type smoke detector which failed to actuate because dispersed in diluted form around the room. The concept of performance based design in fire detection system of protected area influenced by high airflow provided the need of active fire detection system such as air sampling smoke detection system.

  • Recently various types of disaster monitoring system using smart-phones are under active studying. In this paper, we propose a system that automatically performs the disaster and fire detection. Additionally we implement the Arduino-based smart image sensor system in the web platform. When a fire is detected, an SMS is sent to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. In order to improve fire detection probability, we proposed a smart Arduino fire detection sensor simulation which searches the smart sensor inference algorithm using fuzzy rules.

  • Recently, fire monitoring application systems have been an active research area due to the safety of industries, historical monuments and so on. The fire monitoring application systems can reduce the damage of properties by providing earlier warning for possible fire situation. However, the existing systems have a drawback that they detect fire with delay due to their uniform epoch in fire detection algorithm. Moreover, they do not provide user-friendly graphical user interfaces in their fire monitoring systems. To resolve the problems, First, we propose a new fire detection algorithm (Early Fire Detection Fire Algorithm) which uses the distribution of sensing data for early fire detection. Our fire detection algorithm is better in terms of fire detection time than the existing work because it can set a start time of fire detection epoch dynamically based on data distribution. Second, we develop a fire monitoring application system which provides users with both a user-friendly graphical user interface and a fire alarm message when fire occurs. Finally, we show from our experiment that our developed system is effectively used for early fire warning in a variety of fire situations.

  • The MODIS Land Rapid Response System (RRS) has been developed to provide rapid access to MODIS data globally, with initial emphasis on 250 m color composite imagery and active fire data. Fire detection is based on a contextual algorithm that exploits the strong emission of mid-infrared radiation from fires. This algorithm examines each pixel of the MODIS swath, and ultimately assigns to each one of the following classes: missing data, cloud, water, non-fire, fire, or unknown. In this paper, we introduce the MODIS Rapid Response System established at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and present some application results for Korea using the direct broadcast data acquired at KARI ground station.

  • Active fire monitoring using high-resolution drone images and deep learning technologies is now an initial stage and requires various approaches for research and development. This letter examined the detection of active fire objects using You Look Only Once Version 7 (YOLOv7), a state-of-the-art (SOTA) model that has rarely been used in fire detection with drone images. Our experiments showed a better performance than the previous works in terms of multiple quantitative measures. The proposed method can be applied to continuous monitoring of wide areas, with an integration of additional development of new technologies.

  • The Performance-based fire protection design required to construct super high-rise building is the active measure for the evaluation of fire risks and the establishment of fire protection systems on the basis of engineering analysis, which is more efficient and proper than existing prescriptive-based design. This study applied time-line analysis of RSET is required safe egress time and ASET is available safe egress time with the fire and evacuation simulation to analyze. The result of this study showed the sprinkler system increased ASET and fire detection and alarm system reduced RSET efficiently. Reduced evacuation time influences to secure the life safety. Also it is essential to maintain the fire suppression system and fire detection & alarm system properly. Database of fire movement and evacuation action program are useful for the performance-based design.

  • The dimensioning accidental loads have been selected through suitable quantitative risk assessment and generally utilized important factors for offshore facility design. The fire hazard can be quantified with dimensioning fire loads. The main purposes of fire protection are to maintain the functionality of safety systems within evacuation period and to prevent the escalation from initial fire to uncontrolled catastrophic fire. This paper introduces the applications and the design methods of active and passive fire protections as representative measures of fire protection of offshore facilities. The passive fire protection requires the high initial installation cost and much difficulty on the operation of facilities and their maintenance. The oil major clients have asked the design contractors of offshore facilities to optimize the amount of passive fire protection with relevant engineering technology recently.

  • These days, the research of a sensor data management system for USN based real-time monitoring application is active thanks to the development and diffusion of sensor technology. The sensor data is rapidly changeable, continuous and massive row level data. However, end user is only interested in high level data. So, it is essential to effectively process the row level data which is changeable, continuous and massive. In this paper, we propose a sensor data management system with multi-analytical query function using OLAP and anomaly detection function using learning based classifier. In the experimental section, we show that our system is valid through the some experimental scenarios. For the this, we use a sensor data generator implemented by ourselves.

  • As the supply of electric vehicles increases, research on wireless charging methods for convenience has been increasing. Because the electric vehicle wireless transmission device is installed on the ground and the electric vehicle battery is installed on the floor of the vehicle, the transmission and reception antennas are approximately 15-30 cm away, and thus strong magnetic fields are exposed during wireless charging. When a metallic foreign object is placed in the magnetic field area, an eddy current is induced to the metallic foreign object, and heat is generated, creating danger of fire and burns. Therefore, this study proposes a method to detect metallic foreign objects in the magnetic field area of a wireless electric vehicle charging system. An active detection-only coil array was used, and an LC resonance circuit was constructed for the frequency of the supply power signal. When a metallic foreign object is inserted into the charging zone, the characteristics of the resonance circuit are broken, and the magnitude and phase of the voltage signal at both ends of the capacitor are changed. It was confirmed that the proposed method has about 1.5 times more change than the method of comparing the voltage magnitude at one node.

  • Since the air stream in the room controlled by HVAC system affects on he expected response of conventional detectors which are designed in accordance with normal characteristics of air stream in the fire incident, unexpected operation time delay may occur in fire. In order to solve this problem and to improve sensitivity so that to initiate fire in its early stages for minimizing damage and protecting people, we studied and developed Air Sampling Smoke Detector. The Air Sampling Smoke Detector is a kind of active-type fire detection system. it draws air continuously from the protected area through an air sampling pipe network to the smoke density analyzer. This study presents smoke density analysing technique and air intake balancing technique through an air sampling pipe network. As a result of evaluating, Air Sampling Smoke Detector was much more sensitive than conventional smoke detectors that passively wait for smoke to reach them and was not affected by ambient airflow in the room by means of balanced air intake through the sampling holes.
