The biodegradability of vinyl acetate acrylate resin and com starch blend was studied by determination of the reduced sugars produced after enzymatic hydrolysis. The starch hydrolysis reaction by $\alpha-amylase$ was achieved within 5 minutes. Optimal ranges of temperature and pH for the starch hydrolysis by $\alpha-amylase$ were around $80^{\circ}C$ and 6.5-7.2, respectively. The biodegradability of the starch-filled acrylate films increased as the content of starch increased. The biodegradation of starch in the starch-filled acrylate film by $\alpha-amylase$ was about 48.6% of that of pure starch. This value of biodegradable starch-filled acrylate film gave a good result with enzymatic shortcut test. The surface morphologies of the starch-filled acrylate film after enzymatic hydrolysis were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Transparent organic-inorganic hybrid hard coating films were prepared by the addition of $SiO_2$ or $ZrO_2$, as an inorganic filler to improve the hardness property, filler was highly dispersed in the acrylic resin. To improve the compatibility in the acrylic resin, $SiO_2$ or $ZrO_2$ is surface-modified using various silanes with variation of the modification time and silane content. Depending on the content and kind of the modified inorganic oxide, transparent modified inorganic sols were formulated in acryl resin. Then, the sols were bar coated and cured on PET films to investigate the optical and mechanical properties. The optimized film, which has a modified $ZrO_2$ content of 4 wt% markedly improved in terms of the hardness, haze, and transparency as compared to neat acrylate resin and acrylate resin containing modified $SiO_2$ content of 8 wt%. Meanwhile, the low transparency and high haze of these films slowly appeared at $SiO_2$ content above 10 wt% and $ZrO_2$ content of 5 wt%, but the hardness values were maintained at 2H and 3H, respectively, in comparison with the HB of neat acrylate resin.

To prepare an environmental friendly high-solid coatings an acrylic resin containing 80% of solid content was synthesized by addition polymerization of caprolactone acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, ethyl methacrylate, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate. The conversion was $78{\sim}93%$ and the prepared resin's physical properties are as follows: viscosity, $212{\sim}3424cps: $M_{n}$$1740{\sim}2400$. There was a trend that viscosity and molecular weight of the resin increased with Tg, but no direct proportionality was observed.
Monodisperse composite latex particles with size of ca. 300 nm, which consist ofn-butyl acrylate as a soft phase and methyl methacrylate as a hard phase with different morphology, were synthesized by seeded multi-stage emulsion polymerization. Three types of composite latex particles including random-, core/shell-, and gradient-type particles were obtained by using different monomer feeding methods during semi-batch emulsion polymerization. Effect of poly(butyl acrylate)-poly(methyl methacrylate) rubber particle morphology on the mechanical and rheological properties of rubber toughened poly(methyl methacrylate) was investigated. Among three different rubber particles, the gradient-type rubber particle showed better toughening effect than others. No significant variation of rheological property of poly(methyl methacrylate)/rubber blends was observed for the different rubber particle morphology.
We applied a new analyzing technique for the polyurethane acrylate hybrid emulsion sample composed of polyurethane resin and acrylate resin using the phase-lag mapping techniques of atomic force microscopy. For the analysis, we synthesized similarly sized pure polyurethane dispersion and acrylate emulsion particles, which were used for measuring the standard phase-lag intensities for each material. Based on these signal intensity, we could discriminate acryl particle in the polyurethane dispersion matrix with the resolution of a few tens of nanometers. Thus, the techniques show a new possibility in the analysis of the organic two-phase particles, and we believe the techniques are helpful to design organic particles.
Super water-absorbent resins were prepared by inverse suspension copolymerization of sodium acrylate, acrylamide and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate using N, N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide as cross-linker. For the suspension copolymerization, monohexadecyl phosphate was employed as the dispersing agent, cyclohexane as the dispersing medium and potassium persulfate as the initiator. The dependence of water-absorption capacity on the amount of crosslinking agent, oil/water ratio, degree of neutralization and the composition of the copolymer were systematically investigated. Furthermore, the swelling kinetics of the super water-absorbent copolymer was carried out. The absorption of the resins is more than 1800 g/g for deionized water and 100 g/g for 0.9% NaCl solution, respectively. The copolymers showed an increased salt resistance and enhanced water retention of soil.
An issue of major concern in the utilization of laminated composites based epoxy resin is associated with the occurrence of delaminations or interlaminar cracks, which may be related to manufacturing defects or are induced in service by low-velocity impacts. A strong interfacial filament/brittle epoxy resin bonding can, however, be combined with the high fracture toughness of weak interfacial bonding, when the filaments are arranged to have alternate sections of shear stress. To improve this drawback of the epoxy resin, UV-thermal dual curable resin were developed. This paper presents UV-thermal dual curable resin which were prepared using epoxy acrylate oligomer, photoinitiators, a thermal-curing agent and thermoset epoxy resin. The UV curing behaviors and characteristics of UV-thermal dual curable epoxy resin were investigated using Photo-DSC, DMA and FTIR-ATR spectroscopy. The mechanical properties of UV-thermal dual curable epoxy resin impregnated CF prepreg by UV curable resin content were measured with Tensile, Flextural, ILSS and Sharpy impact test. The obtained results showed that UV curable resin content improves the epoxy toughness.
Two functional urethane acrylates were synthesized by using polycarprolactonediol (PCLD) and diisocyanate. The synthesized fuctional urethane acrylate was mixed with butyl acrylate(BA) or adhesion promoters, and their properties were investigated. To synthesize an excellent transparent urethane acrylate, isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI) was used. In addition, the effect of adding butyl acrylate for the improvement of shrinkage of urethane acrylate was studied. The results showed that the addition of butyl acrylate improved the shrinkage, and the optimum butyl acrylate content was 15 wt%. Both 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate (2-EHA) and ethyl acrylate(EA) were polymerized at $85^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs to use as adhesion promoters, and the polymerized adhesion promoters were mixed to the UV-curing resin. The results showed that the adhesion properties increased with the increase of adhesion promoters content up to 15 wt%.

In recent years, researches on organic-inorganic coating films have conducted a nanocomposite system composed of organic resin matrices having excellent flexibility and chemical stability and inorganic materials having excellent mechanical properties. The o-phenylphenoxyethyl acrylate (OPPEA) used as the acrylate monomer has a high refractive index of 1.58, and the bisphenol A ethoxylate diacrylate (BAEDA) has a low refractive index but improves the chemical stability of the organic resin. In addition, zirconia used as an inorganic material exhibits excellent durability and optical properties. In this study, the BAEDA contents in acrylate monomer were controlled to produce a film with suitable optical transparency. And optimum conditions were established by comparing the changes in surface properties of PET films detected with pencil hardness tester, Abbe's refractometer, and UV-vis spectrophotometer. The hydrophobicity and the dispersibility of zirconia in acrylate monomer were much improved after modification with ${\gamma}$-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS), which is a silane coupling agent. And the existence of ester C=O bond peak at $1716cm^{-1}$ introduced by MPS through FT-IR ATR spectrophotometer confirmed the completion of surface modification of zirconia with MPS. In addition, the presence of silicon atom on the surface modified zirconia was also proved using X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. When the photocurable hybrid coating was prepared by introducing chemically modified zirconia into acrylate monomer, the refractive index of this coated PET film was improved by 1.2%, compared to the only acrylate coated PET film. The homogeneous distribution of zirconia in acrylate coating layer on PET film was also identified through SEM/EDS mapping analysis technique.
In this study, polyurethane-acryl emulsion resins were synthesized from HDI (hexamethylene diisocyanate), IPDI (isophorone diisocyanate), Polyol, 2-HEMA (2-hydroxy ethylmethacrylate), n-BA (n-butyl acrylate) and MMA (methylmethacrylate). The effects of polyol types on the properties of polyurethane-acryl emulsion resin, such as degree of strength and water resistance and on the manufacturing process were investigated. In addition, the results were compared with those of acrylic emulsion. The test results showed that polyester type polyol demonstrated stronger tensile strength and higher water resistance with time than did acrylic emulsion and polyether type polyol.
