  • Double-talk detection errors can result in either large residual echo or distorting the near-end talker's input speech. Thus accurate double-talk detection is an important problem in the acoustic echo canceller to improve the speech quality. In the double-talk detection algorithm using a cross-correlation coefficient, double-talk detection errors can occur in the initial convergence period of an adaptive filter or in noisy environment since the cross-correlation coefficient becomes large in such situations. In this paper, we propose a new double-talk detection algorithm based on the cross-correlation method using a normalized error signal power to reduce the double-talk detection errors. The experimental results have shown the performance improvement of an acoustic echo canceller as well as the noise-robustness of the proposed double-talk detector.

  • In this paper, we study real time AEC (acoustic echo canceller) based on NLMS adaptive filter. Proposed method improves conversation quality by enhancing the performance of AEC during double talk section and reduces the power consumption by controling the adaption operation of NLMS adaptive filter. Proposed method examines the convergence of the NLMS adaptive filter, stores the estimated echo path and chooses operation of NLMS adaptive filter. Furthermore if double talk is detected, the proposed AEC utilizes the stored echo path optionally considering missed double talk time. When the proposed AEC is used, the performance of the AEC is enhanced although the simple double talk detector is used and the power consumption of the AEC is reduced.

  • Recently most of A/V devices are being adopted hi-tech of A VRCP and changed to mobile environment. AVRCP is designed to provide a standard interface to control A/V devices, hi-fi equipment, or others to allow a single remote control or other device to control all the A/V equipment to which a user has access. It may be used in concert with A2DP or VDP. The AVRCP defines two roles, that of a controller and target device. In AVRCP, the controller translates the detected user action to the A/V control signal, and then transmits it to a remote Bluetooth enabled device. It can be small and mixed mobile devices using bluetooth technologies. The functions available for a conventional infrared remote controller can be realized in this protocol. The remote control described in this protocol is designed specifically for A/V control only. We designed new DSP using Adaptive Acoustic Echo Canceller for bluetooth hands free based this AVRCP standard specifications.

  • When the LMS algorithm is employed in the transversal filter structure, the computational complexity can be kept reasonably low. However, if the impulse response to be estimated is very long or signals involved are highly correlated like a speech the convergence speed becomes slow. The lattice filter is an excellent alternative to improve convergence speed since the lattice structure inherently has the orthogonal property among the backward prediction errors, but at the expense of the excessive computational load. If the input signal to be used can be sufficiently well modeled as a .RHO.-th order autoregressive(AR) process, the reflection coefficients after the .RHO.- th stage will be close to zero. Then, instead of employing the full lattice structure, the joint lattice filter structure can be implemented in conjunction with the transversal filter structure after the .RHO.-th stage. We propose, in this paper, this new lattice/transversal joint structure, and we will call it the reduced lattice filter. Using the reduced lattice filter, we are now able to achieve the performance as good as that of the lattice filter, while maintaining the complexity as low as that of the transversal filter. The proposed filter is particularly useful for an acoustic echo canceller due to the highly correlatedness nature of speeches and the long and frequently changing echo paths.

  • The adaptive echo canceller (AEC) has become an important component in speech communication systems, including mobile station. In these applications, the acoustic echo path has a long impulse response. We propose a running-average least mean square (RALMS) algorithm with a detection method for acoustic echo cancellation. Using colored input models, the result clearly shows that the RALMS detection algorithm has a convergence performance superior to the least mean square (LMS) detection algorithm alone. The computational complexity of the new RALMS algorithm is only slightly greater than that of the standard LMS detection algorithm but confers a major improvement in stability.

  • A stereo acoustic echo canceller has significant cross-correlation between each channel signal. As the result, the adaptive filter coefficient that estimates the acoustic echo path of a receiving room can misconverge to the path or converge slowly. In this paper, a new preprocessor using absolute difference in stereo signals is proposed to reduce cross-correlations and to improve the removal efficiency of the stereo acoustic echo. Compared to the previous preprocessor using a half wave rectifier, the newly proposed preprocessor showed better performance according to computer simulation. In addition, when the paths of transmitting room were changed the performance of the proposed preprocessor was not degraded.

  • This paper deals with the problem of double-talk (DT) detection in anacoustic echo canceller (AEC). In the DT detection algorithm with correlation coefficient, detection errors occasionally occur because it is hard to set the threshold to distinguish DT from echo path change (EPC). Adaptive filter falls into the situation that it stops updating its filter coefficients when EPC is erroneously considered as DT at the starting-point of EPC. In addition, in case of echo path changing during the DT period, the end-point detection of DT period fails so that the AEC cannot update its filter coefficients for a while even after the DT period ends. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel AEC that employs an auxiliary filter. We use the idea that though the error signal cannot be estimated using reference signal in case or DT situation but it can be in case or EPC situation. The experimental result verifies that the proposed method could solve the problems caused by DT detection error or echo path change during the DT period.

  • This paper proposes the improved orthogonal projection method as a new technique advancing the performance of the acoustic echo canceller. Comparing with the widely used NLMS adaptive algorithm which is simple and stable, it shows that this method has the improvement of the convergence speed for signals with the large auto-correlation, and has small computational quantities. In order to testify performances of the orthogonal projection method whom this paper proposes, we have coded a simulation program md executed computer simulations. We observed convergence curves by using two adaptive algorithm for noises and speeches. From simulation results for two input signals, the proposed method shows the high ERLE and the fast convergence and the stable operation in case of using speeches as well as noises.
