Feline leukemia virus DNA polymerase was purified by ion-exchange and nucleic acid affinity chromatographies. The enzyme consists of a single polypeptide chain of approximately 72, 000 molecular weight as determined by both of a glycerol density gradient centrifugation and SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The preferred divalent cation for DNA synthesis is $Mn^2+$ on a variety of template-primers, and its optimum concentration appears to be significantly lower than reported results of other mammalian type-C viral enzymes. The divalent cation requirement for maximum activity of RNase H is similar to those of DNA polymerase. Both DNA polymerase and RNase H activities appear to reside on the same molecule as demonstrated by the copurification of both activities through various purification steps. An additional RNase H without detectible polymerase activity was generated by a limited chymotrypsin digestion. This RNase H activity was inhibited equally effectively as RNase H in the intact reverse transcriptase by antisera prepared against reverse transcriptase of feline leukemia virus. Neutralization and binding test showed that antibody binding to reverse transcriptase molecule did not completely inhibit the polymerase activity.

As the high-rise building increase due to the gravitation of population to big cities recently, it requires high quality and high performance of Concrete. As a result, people are keenly interested in Meta-kaolin as new admixture favorable from an economic perspective, which has strength and endurance with admixture at the same level like Silica-fume. Accordingly, as to Meta-kaolin, this study was to set by three levels like domestic one, foreign one, and Silica-fume, the water-binding material ratio 25%, and four level substitute like 0, 10, 20, and 30(%) in order to compare and analyze the quality durability of high-concrete according to the substitute of Meta-kaolin applicable with replacement of Silica-fume. As a result of performing experiment it was found that when water-binding material ratio increases, resistance of neutralization, carbonation, salt damage and sulfate decrease, and when replacement ratio of mineral admixture increases, depth of accelerating carbonation gets greater. Also, the combination of SF and MK-B favored resistance to chloride ion penetration better than MK-A, and it was found that when replacement ratio of binding material increases, the resistance to sulphuric acid increases. Therefore, based on this study, it was understood that meta-kaolin is useable in replacement of silicafume.
A sodiume-water reaction takes place when high-pressured water vapor leaks into sodium through a tiny defect on the surface of the heat transfer tube in a steam generator of the sodium-cooled fast reactor. The sodiume-water reaction brings deterioration of the mechanical strength of the heat transfer tube at the initial leakage site. As a result, it damages the crack itself, which may eventually enlarge into a larger opening. This self-enlargement is called "self-wastage phenomenon." In this study, a simulant experiment was proposed to reproduce the self-enlargement of a crack and to evaluate the mechanism of the self-wastage. The damage on the surface of the crack was simulated by making the neutralization reaction with hydrochloric acid solution and sodium hydroxide solution. A numerical investigation was carried out to validate the feasibility of the approach and to determine experimental conditions. From the computation results, it is observed that when 5M HCl is injected into 5M of NaOH with 0.05 m/s inlet velocity, the temperature at the surface near the crack increased over 319.26 K. The computational results show that the self-wastage phenomenon is capable of being reproduced by the simulant experiment.

Male fertility is affected by multiple endogenous stressors, including reactive oxygen species (ROS), which greatly deteriorate the fertility. However, physiological levels of ROS are required by sperm for the proper accomplishment of different cellular functions including proliferation, maturation, capacitation, acrosomal reaction, and fertilization. Excessive ROS production creates an imbalance between ROS production and neutralization resulting in oxidative stress (OS). OS causes male infertility by impairing sperm functions including reduced motility, deoxyribonucleic acid damage, morphological defects, and enhanced apoptosis. Several in-vivo and in-vitro studies have reported improvement in quality-related parameters of sperm following the use of different natural and synthetic antioxidants. In this review, we focus on the causes of OS, ROS production sources, mechanisms responsible for sperm damage, and the role of antioxidants in preserving sperm fertility.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the soil on two waste areas that lack plants to find out the limiting factors of plant introduction, and to find out the possibility of plant introduction through plant growth experiments by mixing the two waste soil. In the case of tungsten waste soil, insufficient organic matter, water content, effective phosphoric acid, and nitrogen content were the limiting factors for plant introduction, and in the case of coal waste soil, low pH of the soil acted as the limiting factors for natural introduction. Growth experiments showed that the number of leaves of Ipomoea nil grown in soil mixed with both waste soil was 2.7 times greater than that of Ipomoea nil grown in tungsten waste soil, and 2.29 times greater than that of Ipomoea nil grown in coal waste soil. The fresh weight comparison showed that Ipomoea nil grown in soil mixed with the two waste soil had a fresh weight of 2.64 times higher than that of tungsten waste soil and 2.45 times higher than that of coal waste soil. There was no significant difference in the fresh weight of Ipomoea nil grown in soil mixed with the two waste soil and in general soil. Therefore, when the two waste soil are mixed, it can be judged that the components unfavorable to growth complement each other, improving the soil and being effective in plant growth.
The interfacial chemical behavior, lattice exchange and dissolution, of $FeS_{(S)}$ as one of the important sulfide minerals was studied. Emphases were made on the surface characterization of hydrous $FeS_{(S)}$, the lattice exchange of Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$, and its effect on the dissolution of $FeS_{(S)}$, and also affect some organic ligands on that of both Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. Cu(II) which has lower sulfide solubility in water than $FeS_{(S)}$ undergoes the lattice exchange reaction when Cu(II) ion contacts $FeS_{(S)}$ in the aqueous phase. For heavy metals which have higher sulfide solubilities in water than $FeS_{(S)}$, these metal ions were adsorbed on the surface of $FeS_{(S)}$. Such a reaction was interpreted by the solid solution formation theory. Phthalic acid(a weak chelate agent) and EDTA(a strong chelate agent) were used to demonstrate the effect of organic lignads on the lattice exchange reaction between Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. The $pH_{zpc}$ of $FeS_{(S)}$ is 7 and the effect of ionic strength is not showed. It can be expected that phthalic acid has little effect on the lattice exchange reaction between Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. whereas EDTA has very decreased the removal of Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. This study shows that stability of sulfide sediments was predicted by its solubility. The pH control of the alkaline-neutralization process to treat heavy metal in wastewater treatment process did not needed. Thereby, it was regarded as an optimal process which could apply to examine a long term stability of marshland closely in the treatment of heavy metal in wastewater released from a disussed mine.

The amino acid sequence of glycoprotein of Korean VHSV isolate (KR'01-1) was analyzed using the DNAStar Protean system. Based on the flexibility, hydrophilicity, antigenic index and surface probability, three regions (Gp1, Gp2 and Gp3) were selected as potential antigenic determinants. Three oligopeptides containing the amino acid sequences of the three regions were synthesized and polyclonal antibodies were raised against them. The activities of the antibodies were analyzed by Western blotting and virus neutralization test. The results showed that antibodies raised against oligopeptides Gp1 and Gp2 neutralized the infectivity of VHSV, suggesting that they can be possible candidates for subunit vaccines against VHS diseases in olive flounder.
The floc formation, breakage and reformation of humic acid by inorganic (alum and PAC) and organic coagulants (cationic polyelectrolytes) at several conditions (pH, ionic strength and floc breakage time) were examined and compared among the coagulants at different conditions using a continuous optical monitoring method, with controlled mixing and stirring conditions. For alum, the shapes of formation, breakage and reformation curves at different pH (5 and 7) were different, but the shapes and the sizes of initial floc and reformed floc were nearly the same in the absence and presence of electrolytes at pH 7. For PAC, similar shapes of the curves were obtained at different pH and ionic strength, but the sizes were different, except for those of reformed flocs at different pH. However, for these coagulants, reformed flocs after floc breakage, occurred irreversibly for all the conditions used in this study. For organic coagulants, the time to attain the initial plateau floc size, the extent of floc strength at high shear rate and reversibility of reformed floes were different, depending floc formation mechanism. Especially, for the cationic polyelectrolyte forming humic flocs by charge neutralization or electrostatic patch effect mechanism, reformed flocs occurred reversibly, regardless of pH and floc breakage time, but occurred irreversibly in the presence of electrolytes.
In proton therapy, the Bragg peak is spread out by modulating or degrading the energy of the particles to cover a well-defined target volume at a given depth. Proton transfer plays a key role in a variety of biological, the origin of the elements, tests of the standard model along with applications in medicine, industry and chemical phenomena such as water autoionization, fast proton diffusion, acid-base neutralization. We have studied the radiolysis of various natural resources and have evaluated the antioxidant activity of radiolysis products by proton beam. The most of antioxidant activities of natural resources were decreased with increasing proton fluence. Proton beam induced antioxidant activities both in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) assay and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzot hialozinesulfonic acid) cation radical $(ABTS^{.+})$ assay by a dose dependent fashion.
Polyelectrolytes of various ionization degrees, which are prepared by neutralization of poly(acrylic acid)(PAA), were crosslinked by ethylane glycol diglycidyl ether(EGDE) in aqueous solution. $C_{gel}$, the minimum polymer concentration at which gelation occurs, was higher than expected. $C_{gel}$ was comparable with that of neutral polymer. This is considered to be due to the size contraction of polyelectrolyte, which comes from ionic strength increase as polymer concentration is increased. $C_{gel}$ is low when molecular weight of the sample becomes high. It reveals that polyelectrolyte is crosslinked in coil form not in extended rod form. This behavior is similar to the crosslinking of neutral polymers. Polyelectrolytes of partially ionized sample generally follow the behavior of fully ionized polyelectrolyte. Polyelectrolyte with added salt was also studied. Considering the pH dependence of EDGE reactivity it was difficult to compare the system which differs in pH significantly.
