This paper addresses uncertainty issues encountered recently in measuring head vibration using the conventional 6-axis or 9-axis bite-bar model. Those conventional bite-bar models are shown to present insufficient information to evaluate a generalized motion of head vibration. In order to overcome such limit, a new theoretical measurement model that consists of four 3-axis linear accelerometers is suggested. It is shown to enable the measurement of three angular acceleration components and six second-order angular velocity-dependent terms. Those nine angular motion-related ones, in addition to the three linear acceleration terms at the origin, are found to make it possible to evaluate the generalized head vibration for a given position. To examine the feasibility of the proposed method, a newly designed 12-axis bite-bar was developed. Detailed experimental results obtained from the developed 12-axis bite-bar are demonstrated in this paper. They illustrate that the popular 6-axis bite-bar model yield about $4.0\%$ relative measurement uncertainty for the pitch component of head vibration, $14\%$ and $10\%$ relative measurement uncertainty for the roll and yaw components of head vibration, respectively. Furthermore, this paper proposes other uncertainty factors to be considered in the future.
An Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS) is an electric optical system with EO/IR cameras, laser sensors, and an IMU. The EOTS calculates coordinates of targets, using attitude and acceleration measured by the IMU. In particular for an armed aircraft, the performance of the weapon system depends on how quickly and accurately it acquires the target coordinates. The IMU should be operated after alignment is complete, to meet the coordinate accuracy required by the weapon system so the initial stabilization time of the IMU should be reduced, by quickly measuring the attitude and acceleration. Alignment is the process of determining the initial attitude by resolving the attitude error of the IMU, and the IMU of mission equipment such as an airborne EOTS, uses velocity matching based on the velocity from GPS/INS for aircraft navigation. In this paper, a method is presented to improve the transfer alignment performance of the airborne EOTS, by maneuvering aircraft and the mission equipment. First, the performance factor of the alignment was identified, as a heading error through the velocity matching model and simulation results. Then acceleration maneuvers and attitude changes were necessary, to correct the error. As a result of flight tests applied to an EOTS on a OOO aircraft system, the transfer alignment performance was improved as the duration time was decreased, by more than five times when the aircraft accelerated by more than 0.2g and the EOTS was moving until 6.7deg/s.

The turbocharger is an essential component to realize the engine down-sizing. The moment of inertia of turbocharger rotor is an important parameter with respect to acceleration performance of the vehicle. It can be calculated from the CAD software based the geometry data and the material properties. But the accurate value of the inertia of turbocharger rotor must be measured through the experimental method. In this study, the measurement of moment of inertia of turbocharger rotor for 2.0 L spark-ignition engine was carried out. First, an experimental equipment using a trifilar method was designed and fabricated. Some optical devices, that is, photo sensor, counter, convex lens, etc, were used to increase the accuracy of the measurement. Second, error sensitivity for the equipment was analyzed. The error of period time and the radius can give big affects to the accuracy of the moment of inertia. When the amount of error of these two were each 1.0 %, maximum error of the moment of inertia was under 3.0 %. Third, the calibration for the equipment was performed using a calibration rotor which has similar shape to turbine rotor but simple. Calculated value from CAD software and measured one for the calibration rotor were compared. The total error of the equipment and the measurement is about 1.3 %. This result shows that the equipment can give the good result with resonable accuracy. Finally the moment of inertia of the turbine rotor and compressor wheel were measured. The coefficient of variations, the ratio of standard deviation to mean value, were reasonably small at 0.57 % and 0.73 % respectively. Therefore this equipment is suitable for the measurement of the moment of inertia of the turbine rotor and compressor wheel.

Recently, one of the natural disasters, landslide is causing huge damage to people and properties. In order to minimize the damage caused by continuous landslide, a scientific management system is needed for technologies related to measurement and monitoring system. This study aims to establish a management system for landslide damage by prediction of slope failure. Ground behavior was predicted by surface ground deformation in case of slope failure, and the change in ground displacement was observed as slope surface. As a result, during the slope failure, the ground deformation has the collapse section, the after collapse precursor section, the acceleration section and the burst acceleration section. In all cases, increase in displacement with time was observed as a slope failure, and it is very important event of measurement and maintenance of risky slope. In the future, it can be used as basic data of slope management standard through continuous research. And it can contribute to reduction of landslide damage and activation of measurement industry.
In this study, a model parameter evaluation method using relative density was proposed to utilize applicable UBC3D-PLM for liquefaction behavior. In addition, dynamic effective stress analysis, that is, liquefaction analysis, was performed on the case of the liquefaction occurrence region where acceleration and pore water pressure were measured, and compared with the actual measurement and the existing Finn analysis results. Through this study, it was found that the proposed method can easily evaluate the necessary parameters required by the related model and predict the pore water pressure behavior in the region where liquefaction occurs. In addition, in the case of the study area, both measurements and numerical analysis showed that liquefaction occurred when a certain amount of time elapsed after the earthquake acceleration reached the maximum value. In the case of UBC3D-PLM applied in this study, the excess pore water pressure behavior similar to the actual measurement was predicted, and the occurrence of liquefaction was evaluated in the same way as the actual measurement. In particular, although the excess pore water pressure in the sand layer was greater, the phenomenon in which liquefaction occurred in the silt layer was accurately realized. It is expected that the proposed model parameter evaluation method and finite element analysis applying UBC3D-PLM can be used to select the liquefaction reinforcement region in the future seismic design and reinforcement by evaluating the liquefaction occurrence region similarly to the real one.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was developed for military purposes and developed as it is today by opening civilian signals (GPS L1 frequency C/A signals). The current satellite orbits the earth about twice a day to measure the position, and receives more than 3 satellite signals (initially, 4 to calculate even the time error). The three-dimensional position of the ground receiver is determined using the data from the radio wave departure time to the radio wave Time of Arrival(TOA) of the received satellite signal through trilateration. In the case of navigation using GPS in recent years, a location error of 5 to 10 m usually occurs, and quite a lot of areas, such as apartments, indoors, tunnels, factory areas, and mountainous areas, exist as blind spots or neutralized areas outside the error range of GPS. Therefore, in order to acquire one's own location information in an area where GPS satellite signal reception is impossible, another method should be proposed. In this study, IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) combined with an acceleration and gyro sensor and a geomagnetic sensor were used to design a system to enable location recognition even in terrain where GPS signal reception is impossible. A method to track the current position by calculating the instantaneous velocity value using a 9-DOF IMU and a geomagnetic sensor was studied, and its feasibility was verified through production and experimentation.

This paper designs a smart safety measurement system with Bluetooth beacon sensor nodes that can provide risk detection and evacuation/countermeasure services. The Bluetooth beacon sensor nodes is easily able to be attached to old building wall or construction or civil structure with potential danger. The proposed smart safety measurement system transmits various sensor data such as acceleration, gyroscope, geomagnetic, pressure, altitude, temperature, humidity at the spot where Bluetooth beacon sensor nodes are installed, and we can use them for risk perception, prediction, and warning services. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, we performed filed tests which showed that measured displacement values of precast retaining walls were within the permitted displacement value of 38.5 mm.
The precision aerial application of agricultural unmanned helicopters has become a new paradigm for small farms with orchards, paddy, and upland fields. The needs of agricultural applications require easy and affordable control systems. Recent developments of MEMS technology based on inertial sensors and high speed DSP have enabled the fabrication of low-cost attitude system. Therefore, this study evaluates inertial MEMS sensors for estimating the attitude of an agricultural unmanned helicopter. The accuracies and errors of gyro and acceleration sensors were verified using a pendulum system. The true motion values were calculated using a theoretical estimation and absolute encoder measurement of the pendulum, and then the sensor output was compared with reference values. When comparing the sensor measurements and true values, the errors were determined to be 4.32~5.72%, 3.53~6.74%, and 3.91~4.16% for the gyro rate and x-, z- accelerations, respectively. Thus, the measurement results confirmed that the inertial sensors are effective for establishing an attitude and heading reference system (AHRES). The sensors would be constructed in gimbals for the estimating and proving attitude measurements in the following paper.
Educational equipment that enables the user or device to recognize the indoor position by using the acceleration and angular velocity of the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) sensor is introduced. With this educational equipment, various position recognition and tracking algorithms can be learned and creative engineering design works can be realized. The data value of the IMU sensor is transmitted to the MCU (microcontroller unit) through $I^2C$ (Inter-Integrated Circuit), and the indoor position recognition algorithm is applied by processing the data value through the filter and numerical method. It is then designed to use wireless communication to send and receive processed values and to be recognized by the user. As an example using this equipament, the case of "Implementation and recognition of virtual position using computation of moving direction and distance using IMU sensor" is introduced, and various creative engineering design application is discussed.

In Extracting the dynamic parameters for estimating the load carrying capacity and integrity of bridges, both the instrumentation and the processing the data plays important role . When the fixed point can not be secured, it is difficult and expensive to measure dynamic displacements. Even if the displacement is obtained through the integration of the acceleration data, the results can be quite different from the real behavior, because the main frequency contents can be leaked during discretized data processing. The instrumentation is used for measurements, and every measurement involves error and uncertainty, such as systematic, conformance, environmental, observational, sampling, and ranmom error. Systematic and conformance error can be remedied through the proper sellection and installation of the instruments, but sampling and random errors could not have been corrected properly and it becomes the limitation for using acceleration data. In this paper, the errors which can be occurred in numerical processing of dynamic data are referred, and the method to sellect proper sampling rate for the structural frequency range are proposed. Using the proposed method, the displacement response of the structures can be economically obtained from the measured acceleration record, and this procedure can be used properly to estimate the integrity of the bridges and infrastructures subjected to dynamic loads.
