Two New Species of Copepods (Crustacea) Associated with the Sponge Phyllospongia foliascens (Pallas) from the Moluccas

  • Spongicola tropicanus, a new genus and species of the family Eunicicolidae, and Asterocheres brevisurculus, a new species of the family Asterocheridae, are described as copepods associated with the sponge Phyllospongia foliascens (Pallas) from the Moluccas. Spongicola is the second genus of the family and may be characterized by a two-segmented prosome, the absence of leg 3, and the presence of leg 5. Asterocheres brevisurculus may be charecterized by one-segmented mandibular palp, short oral siphon, and 19-segmented female antennule.

  • Building a relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (RMHD) code based on upwind schemes has been a challenging project, because of the absence of analytic expressions of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. We found analytic expressions of eigenvalues and eigenvectors for adiabatic RMHD flows which are relatively simple and manageable. Especially, our eigenvectors can handle all degenerate points. Using these analytic forms, we built a code based on the total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme, and successfully performed one-dimensional shock tube tests.

  • The subfornical organ (SFO) represents neuroglial circumventricular organ structures bordering the anterior third cerebral ventricle.   • The setting behavior of disulfide-enriched wool and disulfide-crosslinked silk obtained by treatment with a disulfide-containing crosslinking agent, bis $(\beta-isocyanatoethyl)$ dissulfide was compared with that of untreated wool and silk under the absence and the presence of a reducing agent. Rearrangment of secondary bonds facilitated by cleavage of crosslinks as well as rearrangement of crosslinks itself seems to play an important role in the set stability.

Triplet Exciton Annihilation Process on Two Dimensional Lattice of Naphthalene Choleic Acid Creystals

  • A random walk simulation was used to determine the triplet exciton density and annihilation rate for a two dimensional lattice of naphthalene choleic acid with small amount of β-methylnaphthalene (BMN). The results demonstrate that energy transfer efficiency (α) increases as density increases and the annihilation begins to become significant at triplet exciton densities higher then 10-3/sites. Another simulation was carried out to determine annihilation rate and unimolecular decay rate in the absence of BMN. The results indicate that the annihilation rate is equal to the unimolecular decay rate at the density of 1.2×10-3/sites.

  • An overview will be given on recent Mossbauer and magnetization investigation of the applied field dependence of the magnetic properties of typical systems without strong magnetic anisotropy and showing the absence of magnetic saturation in high fields (including iron-rich spin glass (amorphous $Fe_{93}Zr_{7}$, soft ferromagnets (amorphous $Fe_{88}Zr_{12}$, $Fe_{70}Ni_{20}Zr_{10}$ and $Fe_{88}B_{12}$) and pure Fe). The results emphasize that shape anisotropy due to surface irregularities causes misalignment between the magnetization and the applied field in the otherwise collinear magnetic structure.

  • This investigation is focused on the variations in transversely isotropic thick circular plate due to time harmonic thermomechanical sources. The homogeneous thick circular plate in presence and absence of energy dissipation and two temperatures has been considered. Hankel transform is used for solving field equations. The analytical expressions of conductive temperature, displacement components, and stress components are computed in the transformed domain. The effects of frequency at different values are represented graphically. Some specific cases are also figured out from the current research.

  • In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior and Hopf bifurcation of the modified Holling-Tanner models for the predator-prey interactions in the absence of diffusion. Further the direction of Hopf bifurcation and stability of bifurcating periodic solutions are investigated. Diffusion driven instability of the positive equilibrium solutions and Turing instability region regarding the parameters are established. Finally we illustrate the theoretical results with some numerical examples.

  • Isolated tubal torsion is an uncommon cause of acute abdomen in pregnancy. Tubal torsion may occur in the absence of adnexal disease. Diagnosing tubal torsion is especially difficult in pregnancy because no precise preoperative radiological and biochemical investigations have been conducted. Most patients are diagnosed during surgery. Here, I present a case of isolated tubal torsion in a pregnant woman at 35 weeks and 6 days of gestation that was managed with salpingectomy and cesarean section simultaneously.
