Methods: The data were collected through questionnaire survey on 860 students. The survey was performed during May to Jun. 2003. The nurse image was analyzed through the instrument conceived by Il-Sim, Yang(1998) on the basis of four dimensions; traditional, social, professional and personal. The collected data analyzed using SPSS 11.0 with frequency, mean, standard deviation and t-test. Results: The results of this study were as follows. 1. There was a significant difference in the nurse's image between elementary and middle school students(p=.000), and the elementary students had more positive image. 2. The nurse's image of elementary school students had more positive than middle school students in traditional(p=.000), social(p=.000), professional(p=.000) and personal dimension(p=.015). In middle school students, score of nurse's image was the highest in personal dimension, followed by professional, traditional and social in order. 3. The difference of nurse's image not showed statistical significance in sex, religion, experience of hospitalization(self), experience of hospitalization (family), nurses in family by general characteristics. Conclusion: As a result, elementary school student had more positive nurse's image than middle school student in all the aspects. But as they grow old, it changed negative. It is required to develop public information or education fit with student's age to image making by broadcasting and to improve the image nurses themselves.

  • The purpose of this action research project was to study the effects of incorporating coding into the middle school math classroom affected student dispositions with math and their understanding of mathematical concepts. The project, involving a total of 107 US middle school students, used five data sources to examine these effects: a survey, a chart measuring student engagement, a pre- and post-assessment before and after the coding project, and teacher observation with reflection forms. After analyzing the data, it was found that incorporating coding into the middle school math classroom could have a positive impact on student math dispositions and their understanding of math concepts.

  • The purpose of this study were to investigate middle and high school students' food habits and food attitudes, and to assess student's nutrient consumption. A self-administered questionnaire was developed based on review of literature. The questionnaire consisted of three sections (food habits, food attitudes, and food consumption). The questionnaires were distributed to 4,050 students enrolled in 34 middle and high schools located in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gyeongnam provinces. A final response rate was 88.2% (3,570) excluding responses that had significant missing data. Data of the food habits and food attitudes were analyzed with descriptive analysis, $x^2$-test, and t-test using SPSS WIN(ver.11.0). The student's self-reported food consumption data was converted into nutrient consumption using conversion factor. Many middle and high school students skipped breakfast and/or dinner. Approximately 29% of the students did not eat vegetables and fruits. Scores of the middle school student's attitudes(19.1) towards foods were significantly higher than those of the high school student's attitudes(18.7)(p<.001). Student's nutrient intakes were estimated according to the student's self-reported food consumption data. The nutrient intakes were compared with DRIs(Dietary Reference Intakes: DRIs) for their age groups. The result of EAR(Estimated Average Requirement: EAR) cut-point method demonstrated 57.7% of middle school boys, 64.4% of middle school girls, 70.2% of high school boys, and 71.0% of high school girls did not meet EAR for Calcium. Additionally, it showed that 39.0% of middle school boys, 23.7% of middle school girls, 58.4% of high school boys, and 24.4% of high school girls did not consume EAR for Vitamin $B_1$. 25.7% of middle school boys did not meet EAR for Vitamin $B_2$, while 44.4% high school boys did not satisfy EAR for Vitamin $B_2$.

  • How does the youth feel the sea affairs\ulcorner Concerning this question, this paper aims to measure the images of the youth toward the sea affairs - the sea, the ship and the seafarer and to examined the above subject. As sample 3, 250 students of middle and high school were selected by considering geographical environment. The data obtained using Semantic Differential Method were analyzed by principal component analysis, and the obtained factor scores were examined the significance of difference between sex, age and geographical environment. By introducing the principal component analysis, the authors extracted from each of the images, that is, factors of dynamics and affection to the image on these a and the former the factors and pleasure on the ship, and also the former two factors and factor of professional evaluation on the seafarer, The following results are obtained. 1) In the image of the sea, dynamic image of the student in high school were higher than the of the student in middle school in spite of geographic environment and affective image were opposite. 2) In the images of the ship, affective image of the student in middle school and high school in inland were high than the of the male and female student in near the sea. And also, male female students in middle school and male student s in high school of inland showed the highest score to the pleasure image. 3) In the image of the seafare, professional evaluation of the female student in middle school were higher than the others, but the students in high school showed the highest score to dynamic image. Especially, in the case of the majority of students in high school living in the city or town near the, their images of the seafarer were not so good in spite of their explorative experiences about the sea affairs.

  • In this paper we make an experiment in order to test whether the teaching method with the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) developed by Vygotsky can be more effective and well applied in the middle school pratces. Based on this investigation, we conclude that ZPD help to efficiently enhance the study of students, in particular, the inferior student group. Moreover, if we divide the student by more precise stoups, the ZPD will be more effective on teaching and learning in middle school. Lastly, we arrive at the conclusion that a continuous teaching with ZPD will improve the student attitude positively in solving mathematical problem even it does not appeared apparently on this test.

  • Conducted as an ethnographic examination of science teaching and learning in an Innovative Middle School in Korea, this study employs sociocultural theory to examine how structures afford and limit student participation in an innovative school designed to promote student-centered learning. Data includes teacher and student interviews, student responses to a questionnaire, classroom observations, and analysis of video recordings of ten lessons in two in two 8th grade science classes. Using structure|agency dialectic theory, we identify and describe some structures that afford and limit teacher and student agency at the micro (science classrooms), meso (school), and macro (Korean society) levels to raise some questions about current reform measures, such as innovation schools, that seek to position classroom teachers as agents for change in science education reform in Korea. Findings suggest that while teachers and school administrators play an essential role in structuring learning opportunities at the meso and micro levels, they have limited agency to address structural constraints originating at the macro-level, which can negatively impact teaching and learning in the science classroom. We offer implications for policy and practice and argue the need for more qualitative research, informed by sociocultural theory, to inform science education reform efforts in Korea.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the epidemiological characteristics of school accidents in middle school students. Methods: The subjects in this study were the students of a middle school in Gangnung. The study period was one semester, from March 2 to July 15, 1999. Data were collected by one of the authors using a structured questionnaire, and the subjects who had school accidents and visited the school health care office were interviewed. The data was analyzed using the SPSS and SAS programs. Results: The semester incidence rate per 100 students was 31.6 cases. The daily accident rate was 2.8 cases, and the accident incidence density was 2.6 cases per 1,000 students days. The mean of accident incidence was 1.7 per student. The incidence was the highest in June. The most frequent cause of accidents was carelessness, and the accidents were most frequent at recess. Conclusion: It is necessary to conduct the analytic epidemiological study to identify the risk factors of school accidents.
