The purpose of this study was to research about salt marsh flora and vegetation in the Dongjin-river estuary area where has a project for Sea Man Geum Reclaimed Land so that we can foster foundation on restoration of an ecological habitat, development of applicable plant and establishment of a conservation policy after deceloping the reclaimed land for salt marsh vegetation which has great value ecologically. In conclusion, we was distributed that there are 7 families 21 genera, 25 species, 2 varieties of vascular plant at the Dongjin-river estuary area which have 27 taxa in total and are $0.64\%$ among 4,191 of korean vascular plant. There are also 2 family, 2 genus, 2 species of a naturalized plant which are $1.1\%$ of indicator of a naturalized plant salt marsh vegetation of the downstream are very much affected by the time of inundation, tidal water so that a low degree of salt marsh has frequent flooding by sea water and has a pure group of Suaeda japonica. A Phragmites communis, Carex scabrifolia are distributed mainly around a waterway of salt marsh and Zoysia sinica, Atriplex subcordata, Phragmites communis are living in stock as forming into patch around medium salt marsh. Suaeda asparagoides, Phacelurus latifolius are living around a little high ground and a Phragmites communis is a behind vegetation of Phacelurus latifolius and a part of the Phragmites communis are living along with waterway in a salt marsh as a community. By the 2-M method twelve plant communities were recognized ; Suaeda japonica. Carex scabrifolia, Zoysia sinica, Artemisia scoparia, Phacelurus latifolius, Phragmites communis, Suaeda maritima, Suaeda japonica-Atriplex gmelini, Phragmites communis-Suaeda japonica, Suaeda japonica-Salicornia herbacea, Salicornia herbacea-Suaeda aspar-agoides and Scirpus planiculmis community. The actual vegetation map was constructed on the grounds of the communities classified and other data.

To make conservative port and coast ecosystems and creative the greenspace, We were investigated with characteristic of flora, environmental factors, types of port, adaptive species, minimum conservation area and plantation model. In 50 sites of study areas, there are 19 families and 174 species of vascular plants and 19 families and 48 species of halophytes. Dominant communities in port ecosystem contains Carex kobomugi community, Elymus mollis community, Carex pumila community, Ixeris repens community, Vitex rutundifolia community, Calystegia soldandlla community, Rosa rugosa community, Lathyrus japonica community, Salsola komarovi community, Cynodon dactylon community, Tetragonia tetragonioides community, Suaeda japonica community, Suaeda maritima community, Zoysia sinica community and Phragmites communis community. We carried out Canonical Correspondence Analysis(CCA) for ordinations on the vegetation and plant communities-environmental variable matrices in 50 sites. The communities tended to cluster into three types: Clay marsh, Sand marsh, Sand gravel marsh types. Adaptive species in habitate types are selected that sand marsh-type communities in ports contained Elymus mollis community, Ixeris repens community, Carex kobomugi community, Carex pumila community, Clay marsh-type communities contained Suaeda japonica community, Phragmites communis community, Zoysia sinica community and Suaeda maritima community, Sand gravel marsh-type communities contained Vitex rutundifolia community, Calystegia soldandlla community. We are conducted the estimation of minimal area for plantation of adaptive plant species and carried out guide line and plantation model for creation of green space in port ecosystem.
This study examined the halophyte community and soil analysis according to habitat in representative 18 salt marshes of southern and western coasts of Korea from July 2006 to April 2008 and suggested basic materials for vegetational restoration of these aras. First, the survey area was classified into coastal and estuarine marshes. Then, the coastal marshes were classified into clay marsh, sand gravel marsh, and sand marsh, and the esturarine marshes, into salt swamp and estuary marsh. Major plant communities according to habitat pattern were Phragmites communis, Carex scabrifolia, and Suaeda japonica community in the clay marsh; Phragmites communis, Zoysia sinica, Carex scabrifolia, Salicornia herbacea, Artemisia fukudo, Suaeda martima community in the sand gravel marsh; Elymus mollis, Carex kobomugi, and Vitex rotundifolia community in the sand mars; Phragmites communis, Zoysia sinica, Suaeda martima, and Carex scabrifolia community in the salt swamp, and Suaeda japonica, Phragmites communis, Carex scabrifolia, and Suaeda asparagoides community in the estuary marsh. The soil environment of halophyte community area showed a difference to soil and halophyte community according to habitat characteristics of halophyte. Thus, to restore salt mashes in the coast area, it is advantageous for the stable settlement, germination, and growth of halophyte to grasp physical and physicochemical characteristics of habitat soil in the salt marshes, to select halophyte suitable to these habitat conditions, and to expand gradually in the natural vegetation area after transplantation.

This study was conducted to investigate the growth characteristics of warm-season turfgrasses and to find out suitable turfgrass species on Saemangeum reclaimed land. Twenty native zoysiagrass(Zoysia sinica, Z. matrella, Z. japonica, Medium-leaf type zoysiagrass(hybrid zoysiagrass)) and bermudagrass(Cynodon dactylon) collected from Korea were used in this study. Total stolon length and the number of stolon per square meter, relative growth rate of shoot and stolon, and coverage rate were analyzed for 2 year. C. dactylon showed not only the most growth response with high relative growth rate of shoot and stolon, which were 19.9% and 66.3%, but also resulted in higher level of turf visual quality compared to others. Whereas Z. japonica showed the least growth response with low relative growth rate of shoot and stolon, which were 2.4% and 0.7%. Although all warm-season turfgrasses took root and grew up well, there were different growth rates between the interspecies. Z. sinica 'Z2034', Z. matrella 'Z4091', Z. japonica 'Z1064', Medium-leaf type zoysiagrass 'ZN6019' and C. dactylon 'BN7014' were the greatest growth rate of shoot and stolon. These results will be useful for selecting salt tolerant breeding lines and also used to develop a turfgrass cultivar with strong salinity tolerance through continuous monitoring.

Shindoori dune, about 2,000,000$m^2$ in area, is located in the west of the middle area in Korea. Around the sand dune, many diagnostic plants and animals are populated, so it is considered a very important ecosystematic area. This study was carried out to establish for conservation and restoration in Shindoori dune. Our surveys have been accomplished from October, 2002 to September, 2003. Plant communities formed around the sand dune in Shindoori were divided into several patterns and analysed. They have been divided into 9 communities. Community A : Carex pumila community, B : Carex kobomugi community, C : Elymus moWs community, D : Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii community, E: Rosa rugosa community, F: Ischaemum anthephoroides community, G: Vitex rotundifolia community, H : Lathyrus japonica community, I : Oenothera biennis community. The flora surveyed in these communities was constituted of 19 families, 44 genera, 8 varieties, and 40 species. Wild plants such as Calystegia soldanella, Artemisia capillaris, Avena fatua, Mertensia asiatica, Glehnia littoralis and Zoysia sinica were mostly light loving plants and higher resistant plants against the salty wind. Our result from the ranking all surveyed areas by the Bray-Curtis ordination method was very similar to the results from phytosocialogical table work.

The phytosociological study was carried out to investigate the structural characteristics of coastal vegetaion in South Korea. The vegetation data of total 102 sites were analyzed by the $Z{\ddot{u}}rich$-Montpellier school's method. Eleven community of coastal vegetation were recognized : Vitex rotundifolia-Rosa wichuraiana community, Calystegia soldanella community, Carex kobomugi-Elymus mollis community, Zoysia sinica community, Suaeda maritima community, Suaeda australis community, Suaeda glauca-Atriplex gmelinii community, Suaeda japonica community, Phragmites communis community and Calamagrostis epigeios community. Principal componant analysis (PCA) showed the similar result with phytosoiological classification.
This study focuses on investigating morphological characteristics and variations level in native zoysiagrasses from costal regions and islands in South Korea. In addition, this were collected to conserve germplasm for the breeding of zoysiagrass. One hundred fifty-nine of native zoysiagrasses were collected from 16 different cities and districts. There were morphological evaluations, including plant height, leaf width, leaf length, leaf angle, seed length(SL), seed width(SW), SL/SW ratio and number of seed per spike in native zoysiagrasses. Type of Z. japonica, Z. sinica, Z. macrostachya and Z. matrella showed significant variations in plant height, leaf length, leaf angle and number of seed per spike depending on where they were collected from. On the other hand, little variation were found in leaf width, seed length, seed width and SL/SW ratio. We have discovered a variety of variations among the investigated traits in hybrid zoysiagrass. These results can be used as basic information for development of zoysiagrass breeding.
This study was carried out to select salt tolerant zoysiagrass breeding lines. Eighty two native zoysiagrasses collected from S. Korea were used in this study. Saline water were prepared by mixing sea water and tap water. ECw levels of saline water treated ranged from 2 to $3dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Zoysiagrass planted in pot by sprigging were soaked into the plastic box containing saline water. Winter injury was investigated under the pot condition. Most of Z. japonica types did not show winter injury. But Z. tenuifolia type, Z. matrella type, and Z. sinica type showed winter injury under the pot condition at Cheonan area. NaCl level in soil was increased from 0% to 0.51% by treatment of saline water. Soil ECe measurement showed upto $170dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Z. tenuifolia type (Z5034), Z. matrella type ('Konhee', Z4109, 'Semill'), Z. japonica type (Z1055, Z1040, Z1008, 'Zenith', 'Millock') and medium leaf type zoysiagrass (Z6096, Z6118, Z6021, Z6074) resulted in below 30% leaf firing under the saline condition. This approach might be useful for selecting salt tolerant breeding lines.

Zoysiagrass mite, Aceria zoysiae is one of the main turfgrass pests causing significant damage on zoysiagrass. In this study we investigated damage by zoysiagrass mite for the selection of zoysiagrass mite-resistance turfgrass individual in natural collected turfgrass isolates transplanted in genetic resources conservation area. In the results of investigation of 295 turfgrass isolates collected from Korea, damage level was different depending on turfgrass species and individuals. Zoysia japonica was highly damaged representing 97.6%, followed by hybrid zoysia and Z. sinica with damage percentages of 87.7% and 81.1% respectively. Additionally, 2 individuals of Z. macrostachya were also damaged by zoysiagrass mite. However several individuals were not damaged by zoysiagrass mite in green house and field. Damage by zoysiagrass mite was occurred from May and peak at after July in field. The study highlighted some important resistant turfgrass individuals which can be used in the management of zoysiagrass mite.
1. The author investigated on the flora of Yongzong island especially on the point of view of the sociological studies. 2. The author could distinguish kinds of the plant formtion in this island(1). Seaside plant formation (2). Mountain plant formation. 3. The seaside plant formation could be subdivided as follows: (1). Association of Triglochin maritimum LINNE. (2). Association of Suaeda japonica MAKINO. (3). Association of Scirpus triqueter LINNE. (4) Association of Phragmites prosturatus MAKINO. (5). Association of Zoysia japonica STEUDEL. (6). Association of Zoysia sinica HANCE var. tenuis NAKAI ex YAMAMOTO. (7). Assocation of Carex pumila THUNBERG. (8). Association of Rosa rugosa THUNBERG. (9). Association of Pinus Thunbergii PARLATORE. (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) associations can grow under the high tide, so when the high tide comes they soaked in the sea water. 4. The mountain plant formation can be subdivided as follows: (1). Association of Quercus aliena BLUME and Platycarya strobilacea STEBOLD & ZUCCARINI. (2). Association of Quercus acutissima CARRUTHERS and Platycaryastrobilacea SIEBOLD & ZUCCARINI. (3). Association of Robinia Pseudoeacia LINNE and Platycarya strobilacea SIEBOLD & ZUCCARINI. 5. The plants at the abandoned mine regions are replacing by the association of Robinia Pseudacacia LINNE and Platycarya strobilacea SIEBOLD & ZUCCARINI. 6. Generally I can find that soil which is developed by the seaside plant formation under sea water (when high tide comes, they soaked in the sea water) is over the pH 8.0, so it shows strong alkaline. But the sandy soil behind the tide line shows near the neutral in spite of the same seaside plant formation. In the case of mountain plant formation the soil where they developed show near the pH 6.0, so it is acidity.
