  • This study was conducted with the purpose of examining the effect of material deprivation on the subjective mental health of youth and the moderating effect of social support in these relationships. For this purpose, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and moderating effect model were analyzed using the response data of 2,041 youth who participated in the '2021 Youth Social and Economic Survey'. As a result of the analysis, first, it was found that the material deprivation of youth negatively and significantly affects subjective mental health. Second, it was found that social support moderated the effect of material deprivation on the subjective mental health of youth. The results of this study show that in order to improve the subjective mental health level of youth, it is necessary to not only strengthen public policies and systems to prevent the situation of material deprivation of youth in advance, but also to strengthen the social support system by raising the level of social support.

  • In recent years, many municipal governments have planned and developed welfare programs for their communities. Many of these plans have included youth facilities. However, many of these facilities have had problems keeping up with the rapidly changing needs of young people. Therefore this study aims to analyze the present State of youth facilities, their operating programmes and changing aspect of the space composition. This has significance in suggesting basic materials for planning youth facilities with the spacial characteristics corresponding to their purpose and function as exclusive space for the youth. In our case study, we limited the subjects to the local youth facilities within the daily life area of Jeju, 3 youth facilities and 15 youth culture centers. The results from the case study are as follow. Firstly, in the case of youth culture center, most of the lots are small-sized and they don't show proper space allocation according to activity. Secondly, in the recently-built youth facilities, the cultural space has been expanded rather than the space for public use. Thirdly, it is necessary to formulate the conception of youth culture center and the value in its function and role.

  • This study aims to examine the extent to which youth householder's assets influence life satisfaction and whether depression mediates the relationship between assets and life satisfaction among youth householders. Using the 7th~11th panel data from the KOWEPS, this study employed fixed-effect model and Sobel-test to test the mediating effects. Key findings are as follows: First, this study found positive impacts of youth householder's assets on life satisfaction. Second, the effects of assets on life satisfaction were found to be mediated by depression of youth householders. These findings suggest that asset-based policies targeting youth should be expanded in Korea. This study concludes with several policy implications for development of more inclusive asset-based policies for youth.

  • Present study notes that youth poverty is not only an income deficit, but also a deficit in various dimensions of life such as housing, work and health deficit. Multidimensional poverty is measured by four dimensions: income, work, housing and health. The sample is a 2630 one-person household female youth pooled from the Korea Welfare Panel 10-Year Data. The analysis tool used SPSS statistical program, and the analysis framework was the deficiency rate by dimension, the correlation analysis between deficiency dimension, and the overlapping rate of N dimension poverty. As a result, women's youth in Korea had higher deficit rate in terms of work and housing than other dimensions, and the proportion of women youth who were both poor in work and housing at the same time was also relatively higher than in other cases. Based on these results, this study proposes the construction of customized job services, job matching with small and medium-sized enterprises and allocation of one young woman's household among the targets of long-term chartered housing. Female youth's sharing-economy association should be considered as alternatives.

  • This study examines the mediating effect of self-esteem in the path between parental attachment and career barriers for out-of-school youth and proposes measures to reduce the level of career barriers for out-of-school youth. As analysis data, we used data from the 5th year of the panel survey of school dropout youth conducted by the Korea Youth Policy Institute, and used 318 out-of-school youth for analysis. As a result of analysis using the statistical programs SPSS 23.0 and Amos 23.0 version, the mediating effect of self-esteem was confirmed in the path between emotional support, a subfactor of parental attachment, and all subfactors of career barriers. These results suggest that multifaceted efforts are needed to improve parental attachment (emotional support, economic support) and self-esteem, which influence the level of career barriers for out-of-school youth. Accordingly, based on the results of this study, practical measures were specifically presented to educate parents of out-of-school youth and improve their self-esteem.

  • South Korea has long been a culturally homogenous society, yet the increasing number of immigrants has turned the country into a multicultural society. Therefore, many empirical studies have investigated the way immigrants adapt to the Korean society and its associated factors. However, examining the overall process of migration (from family separation to reunification and cultural adaptation to the host society) that immigrant youth usually experience has been understudied. Previous empirical research and theoretical work have identified prominent factors that predict immigrant youth's mental health: experiences of family separation, living with others rather than primary caretakers during the separation, the length of residency in the host society, and family and peer support. In this respect, this exploratory and preliminary study that examined whether the experience of migration process and post-migration are related to Korean immigrant youth's mental health problems (depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation). The result indicated that longer duration of family separation; living with relatives, siblings; and friends rather than primary caretakers during the separation; receiving less support from family and peer after migration; and a lower degree of cultural adaptation to Korean culture were associated with depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Drawing upon the results, this study discussed implications for policy and practice.

Based on the results of the study, the government sought to help understand teenagers who are addicted to gambling and to help them maintain psychological and social stability and healthy living. A total of 237 high school students were surveyed. According to the analysis, the prevalence rate was found to be 3.4 percent of the problem gambling group and 9.3 percent of the medium-risk gambling group, and a total of 12.7 percent was addiction. Low-risk gambling groups accounted for 16.9 percent and non-problem gambling groups accounted for 70.5 percent. By gender, male students have more serious gambling problems than female students. As a result of dividing the group that experienced gambling more than once and the group that did not experience gambling into gambling group and non-gambling group, the two groups showed significant differences in impulsiveness, avoidant attachment, and interest in others. Furthermore, a correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between these factors and the level of gambling behavior, showing that only impulsivity was significant.

Data for this study were collected from 14 nationwide institutions between June 10th to June 20th, 2008. Selfreporting surveys were employed to gather information from 412 sources within these institutions. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS program(12.0). The results were as follows: Stepwise multiple regression showed that self-esteem could be used to predict career decision-making level($\beta$ = -.262, p < .001). Furthermore, self-esteem had a moderating effect on the relationship between social support and career decision-making level($\beta$ = -.749, p < .001). Specifically, self-esteem and the scale of social support from family, friedns or significant others had a moderating effect on career decision-making level($\beta$ = - .118, p < .001). The implication of these findings on career decision-making intervention of youth in residential care and future research priorities are discussed.
