MOD-TFA 공정으로 YBCO 박막제조 시 열처리 온도와 용매의 영향 (The effect of annealing temperature and solvent on the fabrication of YBCO thin films by MOD-TFA process)

  • $YBa_2$$Cu_3$$O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) thin films were fabricated by MOD-TFA process via dip-coating method on LaAlO$_3$, (LAO) single crystalline substrates. In this study, we investigated effect of annealing temperature and solvent on the microstructure and texture of YBCO thin films. The precursor films were annealed at various temperature to improve surface morphologies and phase purities. It was shown that the films annealed at relatively lower and higher temperature exhibit low phase purity and crystallinity. The effect of various solvents on surface morphologies and second phase has been investigated.

  • To investigate the influence of strip width and inter-strip separation on the ac loss, arrays of parallel strips with different widths and separations were prepared. Studies on the hysteresis-loss characteristics of multifilamentary YBCO films were performed. The local magnetic field due to magnetization currents is measured by a scanning Hall probe microscope. Based on these results a conceptual design for a low loss YBCO coated conductor is suggested.

금/YBCO 박막에서의 quench 저항 발생 (Resistance development in Au/YBCO thin film meander lines during quench)

  • We investigated resistance development in Au/YBCO thin film meander lines during quench. The meander lines were fabricated by coating YBCO films insitu with a gold layer and patterning them by photolithography. The center stripe quenched fastest even though the flux flow resistance that appeared upon the current passing the critical current was uniform. Quench started at an area of the center stripe and propagate both through the gold layer and the sapphire substrate. Quench propagation speed was uniform and 60 cm/s at 30 V$_{rms}$.

Au/YBCO 박막의 크기가 퀜치 거동에 미치는 영향 (Size Effect on Quench Development in Au/YBCO Films)

  • We investigated the size effect on quench development in $Au/YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) thin film meander lines on sapphire substrates. The meander lines were fabricated by patterning YBCO films coated with gold layers. The lines were subjected to simulated AC fault current, and immersed in liquid nitrogen during the experiment. After the initial rapid rise, the resistance increased moderately and then slowly. In 4 inch-diameter meander lines, the period during which the resistance increased moderately was considerably longer than in 2 inch-diameter line. Moderate increase of resistance was originated from quench propagation. The film temperature was about 180 K at the point when the propagation was completed. The rate of resistance increase after the quench completion was not affected by the film size.

  • Introduction of proper impurity into $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) thin films is an effective way to enhance its flux-pinning properties. We investigate effect of $Y_2O_3$ nanoparticles on the critical current density $J_c$ of the YBCO thin films. The $Y_2O_3$ nanoparticles were created perpendicular to the film surface (parallel with the c-axis) either between YBCO and substrate or on top of YBCO, YBCO/$Y_2O_3$/LAO or $Y_2O_3$/YBCO/STO, by pulsed laser deposition. The deposition temperature of the YBCO films were varied ($780^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$) to modify surface morphology of the YBCO films. Surface morphology characterization revealed that the lower deposition temperature of $780^{\circ}C$ created nano-sized holes on the YBCO film surface which may behave as intrinsic pinning centers, while the higher deposition temperature produced much denser and smoother surface. $J_c$ values of the YBCO films with $Y_2O_3$ particles were either remained nearly the same or decreased for the samples in which YBCO is grown at $780^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, $J_c$ values were enhanced for the samples in which YBCO is grown at higher temperature of $800^{\circ}C$. The difference in the effect of $Y_2O_3$ can be explained by the fact that the higher deposition temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ reduces intrinsic pinning centers and $J_c$ is enhanced by introduction of artificial pinning centers in the form of $Y_2O_3$ nanoparticles.

  • YBCO thin films on $SiO_2$/Si substrate were fabricated by spin-coaing of an alkoxide-derived precursor and heat treatment. The structural and electrical properties of the YBCO films were investigated as functions of annealing temperature at $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$. Although YBCO single phase was not synthesized, dense films of YBCO matrix phase and minor second phases have been successfully fabricated at the annealing temperatures of $650{\sim}800^{\circ}C$. Thickness and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of YBCO thin films with annealing temperature of $750^{\circ}C$ were 0.31 ${\mu}m$ and $-2.92%/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • Superconducting YBCO films were successfully fabricated by MOD process using chemically modified precursor solution. In this study, a chemically modified precursor solution for MOD processing was synthesized using metal-organic salts and organic additives. It was shown that crack-free and uniform precursor films were formed after calcination in humidified Oxygen atmosphere. Less than 3 hours are required to finish the calcination process. XRD measurement shows that $BaF_2,\;CuO,\;Y_2O_3$ are major constituent of precursor films. Furthermore, YBCO films without any secondary phases were successfully fabricated after annealing in wet $Ar/O_2$ atmosphere. The YBCO film prepared on a $LaAlO_3$ single crystal substrate ($10mm{\times}10mm$) gives transport $I_c$ of 10A at 77K. This chemical modification approach is a possible candidate for improving MOD-processing of YBCO coated conductor.

  • The crystal structure and properties of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$(YBCO) and CeO$_2$ thin films deposited on r-plane (1(equation omitted)02) sapphire substrate by pulsed- laser deposition(PLD) have been investigated. C-axis oriented epitaxial YBCO thin films with critical temperature (Tc) of 88 K were routinely grown on (200) oriented CeO$_2$ buffer layers with thickness in the range between 20 to 80 nm. When the thickness of the (200)oriented CeO$_2$ buffer layer increases over than 80 nm, the superconducting properties of YBCO thin films on that were deteriorated. The decrease in Tc of YBCO thin films was explained by the microcrack formation in CeO$_2$ buffer layer. These results indicate that the thickness of the (200) oriented CeO$_2$ buffer layer is critical to the epitaxial YBCO thin nim growth on r-plane (1(equation omitted)02) sapphire substrate.e.

$CeO_{2}/BaTiO_{3}$ 이중완충막을 이용한 YBCO 박막 제작 (Fabrication of YBCO superconducting film with $CeO_{2}/BaTiO_{3}$double buffer layer)

  • We have fabricated good quality superconducting YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$(YBCO) thin films on Hastelloy(Ni-Cr-Mo alloys) metallic substrates with CeO$_2$and BaTiO$_3$buffer layers in-situ by pulsed laser deposition in a multi-target processing chamber. YBCO film with CeO$_2$ single buffer layer shows T$_{c}$ of 71.64 K and the grain size less than 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. When BaTiO$_3$is used as a single buffer layer, the grain size of YBCO is observed to be larger than that of YBCO/CeO$_2$by 200 times and the transition temperature of the film is enhanced to be about 84 K. CeO$_2$/BaTiO$_3$double buffer layer has been adopted to enhance the superconducting properties, which results in the enhancement of the critical temperature and the critical current density to be about 85 K and 8.4 $\times$ 10$^4$ A/cm$^2$ at 77 K, respectively mainly due to the enlargement of the grain size of YBCO film.ilm.
