In this paper, we have proposed a clock recovery algorithm of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing/Quadrature Phase Shift Keying Modulation-Digital Microwave Radio(OFDM/QPSK-DMR) system using Band Limited-Pulse Shaping Filter(BL-PSF) and compared the clock phase error variance of OFDM/QPSK-DMR system with that of single carrier DMR system. The OFDM/QPSK-DMR system using windowing method requires training sequence or Cyclic Prefix (CP) to synchronize the clock phase of received signal. But transmit efficient is increased in our proposed DMR system because of no using redundant data such as training sequence or CP. The proposed clock recovery algorithm is simply realized in the OFDM/QPSK-DMR system using BL-PSF. The simulation results confirm that the proposed clock recovery algorithm has the same clock phase error variance performance in a single carrier DR system under Additive White Gaussian Noise(AWGN) environment.

In this paper, the DMR(Digital Microwave Radio) system-based OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme in microwave channel environments has been proposed and system performances have been evaluated. The existing single carrier DMR system has a complex system structure due to using high-level QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) modulation scheme and so charmel capacity is limited by sensitive effects from fading. Therefore, in the proposed DMR system, it uses that the OFDM scheme for enhancement of fading distortion and also uses that the band-limited pulse shaping filter instead of windowing for no additional data such as GI/GB and for using efficient of IFFT/FFT block. The performance of OFDM/QPSK-DMR system and single carrier DMR system are analysed by computer simulation using two-ray model under the microwave channel environments The computer simulation results confirm that the fade margin of the proposed OFDM/QPSK-DMR system is highly increased as the number of sub-carriers is larger.

Recently, novel candidate waveform techniques for spectral efficiency improvement was proposed in order to satisfy key performance indicators(KPIs) of 5th generation(5G) mobile communication. Multi-carrier based universal filtered multi-carrier(UFMC) and filter bank multi-carrier(FBMC) are very famous as 5G candidate waveform techniques. Also, weighted orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (W-OFDM) that has low-complexity is receiving the spotlight slowly. In this paper, firstly, we describe a basic OFDM system. And then, we also describe UFMC, FBMC, and W-OFDM system. Next, we evaluate and analyze spectrum and BER performance of these systems under the nonlinear high power amplifier(HPA) environment. As simulation results, spectrum characteristic and BER performance of UFMC, FBMC, and W-OFDM are similar to each other. Therefore, under the nonlinear HPA environment, W-OFDM system is more advantageous because W-OFDM system uses a simple time-domain windowing technique and has similar characteristics to the others.
Eureka 147 DAB system based on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) was adopted as the transmission scheme for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) system in Korea. The OFDM has several advantages comparing to the single carrier modulation. However, its high Peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) increases the complexity of the D/A and A/D converters and reduces the efficiency of the high power amplifier To reduce the high PAPR of OFDM, various techniques such as clipping, peak windowing, companding, selected mapping (SLM), Partial transmit sequences (PTS), etc. have been proposed. In this paper, we propose modified configurations of SLM and PTS for effective implementation and evaluate the performance on the PAPR reduction of DMB system. The simulation results show that the modified SLM (MSLM) has merits in reducing the amount of computation and hardware complexity due to the reduction of the number of vector $P^{(U)}$, while satisfying the same performance and maintaining the same required bits (RB) for side information. With the same amount of computation and the same RB, the modified PTS (MPTS) is also shown to be better than PTS in the performance of PAPR reduction.

The frequency-hopping technique is one of the spread-spectrum techniques. Frequency hopping is a communication system in which the carrier frequency channel is hopped within the wideband. Therefore, a frequency-hopping system has such advantages as antijamming and low probability of intercept. This system is often used in military communications. Because frequency-hopping signal detection is difficult, it is an important research issue. A novel detection technique is proposed that can improve detection probability. When the received signal is transformed to a frequency domain sample by fast Fourier transform, spectral leakage lowers the detection probability. This problem can be solved by using the Hamming window, and the detection probability can be increased. However, in a frequency-hopping environment, the windowing technique lowers the detection probability. The proposed method solves this weakness. The simulation results show that the proposed detection technique improves the detection probability by as much as 13 %.
In this paper, an improved timing synchronization method for OFDM system is proposed. In multipath fading channels, timing offset estimation algorithm based on simple correlation metric can cause inter-symbol interference (ISI). The proposed algorithm promises accurate timing offset estimation, which can be achieved by simple windowing. The estimation errors in several multipath channels are evaluated in computer simulations.

In the field of computer graphics, rendering speed is one of the most important factors. Contemporary rendering is performed using 3D graphics systems with windowing system support. Since typical graphics systems, including OpenGL and the DirectX library, focus on the variety of graphics rendering features, the rendering process itself consists of many complicated operations. In contrast, early computer systems used direct manipulation of computer graphics hardware, and achieved simple and efficient graphics handling operations. We suggest an alternative method of accelerated 2D and 3D graphics output, based on directly accessing modern GPU hardware using the direct rendering manager (DRM) system. On the basis of this DRM support, we exchange the graphics instructions and graphics data directly, and achieve better performance than full 3D graphics systems. We present a prototype system for providing a set of simple 2D and 3D graphics primitives. Experimental results and their screen shots are included.

This paper presents a system identification (SI) scheme in time domain using measured acceleration data. The error function is defined as the time integral of the least squared errors between the measured acceleration and the calculated acceleration by a mathematical model. Damping parameters as well as stiffness properties of a structure are considered as system parameters. The structural damping is modeled by the Rayleigh damping. A new regularization function defined by the L1-norm of the first derivative of system parameters with respect to time is proposed to alleviate the ill-posed characteristics of inverse problems and to accommodate discontinuities of system parameters in time. The time window concept is proposed to trace variation of system parameters in time. Numerical simulation study is performed through a two-span continuous truss subject to ground motion.
The MPEG-D unified speech and audio coding (USAC) standardization process was initiated by MPEG to develop an audio codec that is able to provide consistent quality for mixed speech and music contents. The current USAC reference model structure consists of frequency domain (FD) and linear prediction domain (LPD) core modules and is controlled using a signal classifier tool. In this letter, we propose an LPD single-mode USAC structure using an adaptive widowing-based transform-coded excitation module. We tested our system using official test items for all mono-evaluation modes. The results of the experiment show that the objective and subjective performances of the proposed single-mode USAC system are better than those of the FD/LPD dual-mode USAC system.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of pilot symbol assisted channel estimation and equalization schemes for OFDM systems over frequency-selective time-varying channels and propose methods to improve the system performance. In the least square(LS) and linear minimum mean square error(MMSE) channel estimation, time domain windowing is introduced for banding the frequency domain channel matrix. The linear MMSE and decision feedback equalization schemes are employed with the pilot symbols for channel estimation taken into account in the equalization process. To reduce computational complexity, the band LU matrix factorization algorithm is introduced in solving the linear systems involved in the equalization, and the performances are compared with the known previous results by computer simulations. When time domain windowing is employed in the decision feedback equalization, the matrix related with the decision feedback process is shown to be unhanded and the resultant performance degradation is analyzed.
