Dynamic analysis of three adjacent bodies in twin-barge floatover installation

  • Floatover technology has been widely used in offshore installation, which has many substantial advantages compared with the traditional derrick barge. During the topside offloading of a twin-barge floatover installation, the transport barge is side by side moored between two floatover barges. In this paper, the twin-barge model with the connecting hawsers and pneumatic fenders is established. Coupled dynamic analysis is carried out to investigate the motions of the barges under wind, wave and current environments. Particular attention is paid to the effects on system responses with different frictional performance of fender, axial stiffness of the hawsers and environmental conditions. The research results can be used for optimizing the parameters of the system and reducing the risk of topside offloading.

SST Effect upon Numerical Simulation of Atmospheric Dispersion (대기확산의 수치모의에서 SST 효과)

  • In the coastal region air flow changes due to the abrupt change of surface temperature between land and sea. So a numerical simulation for atmospheric flow fields must be considered the correct fields of sea surface temperature(SST). In this study, we used variables such as latent heat flux, sensible heat flux, short and long wave radiation of ocean and atmosphere which exchanged across the sea surface between atmosphere and ocean model. We found that this consideration simulated the more precise SST fields by comparing with those of the observated results. Simulated horizontal SST differences in season were 2.5~4$^{\circ}C$. Therefore we simulated the more precise atmospheric flow fields and the movement and dispersion of the pollutants with the Lagrangian particle dispersion model. In the daytime dispersion pattern of the pollutants emitted from ship sources moved toward inland, in the night time moved toward sea by land/sea breeze criculation. But air pollutants dispersion can be affected by inland topography, especially Yangsan and coastal area because of nocturnal wind speed decrease.

  • The final aim of our research project is a study on assessment of automatic steering system of ships in open seas. In order to achieve this aim, we need to know the characteristics of each component of the system, and also to know the characteristics of disturbance to ship dynamics. In this paper, we provide calculation method of irregular disturbance to ships in autopilot navigation in open seas, and also show calculation examples about two kinds of ship, ore carrier and fishing boat. The disturbance consists of irregular wave and random wind. The disturbance is calculated as equivalent yaw angular velocity. Each spectrum and time history of disturbance are reasonably evaluated. Further investigation concerning to performance index of autopilot system and energy loss related to automatic course keeping, will be dealt with in another paper.

  • In order to evaluate the safety of navigation at sea and the safety of mooring ship on berthing, it is necessary that the wave and wind induced ship dynamic motion should be measured in real time domain for the validity of theoretical evaluation method such as sea-keeping performance and safety of mooring. In this paper, the basic design of sensors is discussed and some system configurations were shown. The developed system mainly consists of 4 kinds of sensors such as three dimensional accelerator, two dimensional tilt sensor, two displacement sensors and azimuth sensor. Using the this measuring system, it can be obtained the 6 degrees of freedom of ship dynamic motions at sea and on berthing such as rolling, pitching, yawing, sway, heave, surge under the external forces.

  • The tracking system on the moving vehicle is made up of two parts. One is a stabilizer which is flatting the system against the moving vehicle, the other is a tracker which is tracking the target. This makes use of the geometric information of the tracking target and that utilizes the dynamic information of the moving vehicle equipping the tracking system. Especially the stabilizer is very important for an ocean vehicle affected by wave, wind, and current. In this paper, the stabilizer of sun tracking system for a ship is developed.

  • Measuring temperature with ultrasonic wave apparatus is desirable in the case of both below 300$0^{\circ}C$ and ideal gas because of the fact that the temperature of gas is the function of only sound velocity. In this study, being used a heatable wind channel and a blower, the variation of temperature is observed in accordance with diverse flow rate(air velocity). The frequency modulation method is used to measure the temperature which is varying in hot air flow till 10$0^{\circ}C$. The length changed in the position of ultrasonic sensors is considered. Also, the effects of air velocity at the same temperature and various facing angles of ultrasonic sensors are considered. As a result of this study, it has been found that the temperature in gas flow is correctly measured regardless of both the distance of ultrasonic sensors and the variation of air velocity, and that there is just a little influence of facing angles.

  • Theoretical studies have been made to analyze combined refraction diffraction of the wind waves propagating on a large scale current in water of varying depth. The governing equation for monochromatic waves was derived through splitting a mild slope equation into two equations. A numerical model is developed using finite difference scheme which is computationally very efficient for modelling large area. Numerical examples concerning the interactions between waves and rip currents over a gentle slope are presented, in which the current effects on the wave diffraction in the caustic region are closely examined.

  • When an automatic course-keeping is concerned, as is quite popular in modem navigation, the closed-loop steering system consists of autopilot device, power unit (or telemotor unit), steering gear, magnetic or gyro compass and ship dynamics. In order to estimate automatic steering system of ships in open seas. we need to know the characteristics of each component of the system, and also to know the characteristics of disturbance to ship dynamics. In this paper, I provide calculation method of imposing irregular disturbance to autopilot navigation system of the ship in open seas, and also show calculation examples about fishing boat. The disturbance consists of the irregular wave and the fluctuating component of wind. Finally, The disturbances are calculated in terms of equivalent yaw angular velocity. Each spectrum and time history of disturbance are reasonably evaluated.

  • In this paper, when we control Elevation Angle and Azimuth Angle of Antenna, intend to implement sensor system for stabilization control of antenna pedestral system because of wind in land, wave and external disturbances such as rolling, pitching, and yawing. Therefore, this sensor system is consist of Tilt Sensor for measuring absolute angle of roll ing and pitching, Level Rate Sensor, Cross Level Rate Sensor, Azimuth Rate Sensor for controlling short_term azimuth angle and Flux Gate Sensor for measuring long_term azimuth angle.

  • To investigate the stability and integrity of offshore structures, it is necessary to estimates the significant ocean environmental loadings. They include hydrostatic pressure, wind, wave, current, tide, ice, earthquake, temperature, marine growth and scouring. Waves are of major importance among them because of the large forces acting on submerged parts of the structure caused by accompanying water motions. For the comparison of stress and deflection analysis tools, a vertical pile is applied under environmental loads. The analysis is concerned with SACS(Structural Analysis Computer System), ANSYS and C program. SACS and C program have nearly the same results but not ANSYS. This study shows the comparison of results obtained from 3 different approaches.
