Dsign of Aperture-Matched type Slot Antenna for Ultra Wide-Band (개구-정합 형태를 갖는 UWB용 슬롯 안테나의 설계)

  • In this paper describes novel m antenna using aperture matched type slot structure. It substitutes edge diffractions by curved-surface diffractions which have a tendency to provide an undisturbed energy flow across the junction, around the curved surface, and into free-space. The proposed antenna is composed of a CPW feed structure, exponential tapered slot and the curved sectional at the edge. experimental resulte show that aperture matched type slot improve the performance of the UWB antenna.

Design of a Short/Open-Ended Slot Antenna with Capacitive Coupling Feed Strips for Hepta-Band Mobile Application

  • In this paper, a planar printed hybrid short/open-ended slot antenna with capacitive coupling feed strips is proposed for hepta-band mobile applications. The proposed antenna is comprised of a slotted ground plane on the top plane and two capacitive coupling feed strips with a chip inductor on the bottom plane. At the low frequency band, the short-ended long slot fed by strip 1 generates its half-wavelength resonance mode, whereas the T-shaped open ended slot fed by strip 2 generates its quarter-wavelength resonance mode for the high frequency band. The antenna provides a wide bandwidth covering GSM850/GSM900/DCS/PCS/UMTS/LTE2300/LTE2500 operation bands. Moreover, the antenna occupies a small volume of $15mm{\times}50mm{\times}1mm$. The operating principle of the proposed antenna and the simulation/measurement results are presented and discussed.

  • Recently, Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) is widely used in the industry applications such as power train for hybrid vehicles and compressor motors of air-conditioner due to its high power density and wide speed range. In designing motors, pole slot combination should be chosen properly according to the use of the motor and driving method in the initial design stage, accordingly there have been many researches about pole slot combination. As a part of the studies, this paper presents a comparison of characteristics of concentrated winding IPMSM, such as back-emf, Total Harmonic Distortion(THD) and core losses for each pole slot combination. By comparing the characteristics of each model, this paper can be a guide or reference in determining pole slot combination in the initial design stage.

Design of Dual-Polarized Waveguide Slot Array Antenna for Synthetic Aperture Radar (영상레이더용 이중편파 도파관 슬롯 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, the waveguide slot array antenna which is capable of wide beam steering and dual polarization is designed for an X band synthetic aperture radar. In order to improve the restriction of beam steering range and to remove the butterfly lobes, a typical waveguide slot array antenna has been modified. To implement dual polarization, rod excited waveguide slot elements and ridge waveguide slot elements are alternately arranged. Location of slots, inclination of rod and offset distance of slots are determined on using array characteristic and conductance constant with radiating power on slots. The designed antenna is manufactured and measured with Near-filed measurement method.

  • Microstrip antennas generally have a lot of advantages that are thin profile, lightweight, low cost, and conformability to a shaped surface application with integrated circuitry. In addition to military applications, they have become attractive candidates in a variety of commercial applications such as mobile satellite communications, the direct broadcast system (DBS), global positioning system (GPS), and remote sensing. Recently, many of the researches have been achieved for improving the impedance bandwidth of microstrip antennas. The basic form of the microstrip antenna, consisting of a conducting patch printed on a grounded substrate, has an impedance bandwidth of $1\~2\%$. For improvement of narrow bandwidth of microstrip patch, we were designed U-slot microstrip patch antenna in this paper. This antenna had wide bandwidth for all personal communication services (PCS) and IMT-2000. For the design of U-slot microstrip patch antenna using a finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. This numerical method could get the frequency property of U-slot patch antenna and the electromagnetic fields of slots.

Studies on Miniaturization and Notched Wi-Fi Bandwidth for UWB Antenna Using a Wide Radiating Slot (넓은 방사 슬롯을 이용한 초광대역 안테나의 소형화와 Wi-Fi 대역의 노치에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, it is studied on wide radiating slot antenna's miniaturization for ultra wide-band(UWB) technologies and notch structure to prevent interference between UWB systems and existing wireless systems for using Wi-Fi service of IEEE standards 802.11 a/n. Proposed antenna that wide slot is decreased from $\lambda/2$ to $\lambda/4$ length of resonant frequency has decreased by 72 % compared with conventional antenna. And optimized T-shaped CPW-fed stub has satisfied UWB bandwidth for 3.0~11.8 GHz. Then, creating 2-order Hilbert curve slot line in the stub's patch area, 4.9~5.6 GHz that centered frequency is 5 GHz is eliminated. Finally, the designed antenna constructed on FR4-epoxy has $20{\times}15\;mm^2$ dimension. The measured results that are obtained return loss under -10 dB through 3.2~11.8 GHz without Wi-Fi bandwidth, a linear phase characteristic, a stable group delay, and omnidirectional radiation patterns are presented.

Effect of the Microtip Length in a Slot-die Head on Fine Stripe Coatings (미세 스트라이프 코팅에 미치는 슬롯 다이 헤드 마이크로 팁 길이의 영향)

  • The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of the microtip length in a slot-die head on coating of a fine poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) stripe. To this end, we have employed a meniscus guide with a 150-㎛-wide microtip and performed roll-to-roll slot-die coatings by varying its length between 500 ㎛ and 50 ㎛. When the microtip length is 150 ㎛ or shorter, we have observed three unexpected phenomena; 1) though the solution spreads much wider than the microtip width, yet the coated stripe width is almost the same as the microtip width, 2) the stripe width decreases, but the stripe thickness is rather increased with increasing coating speed at a fixed flow rate, 3) we obtain stripes much narrower than the microtip width at high coating speeds. It is due to the fact that 1) the meniscus is not well controlled by a short microtip, 2) the main stream of solution from the outlet is very close to the substrate and thus the distributed solution along the head lip merges with the main stream, and 3) the solution is not spread over the entire microtip end at high coating speeds, causing a tiny wobble in the meniscus. Using the 150-㎛-wide and 250-㎛-long microtip, we have fabricated 153-㎛-wide and 94-nm-thick PEDOT:PSS stripe at the maximum coating speed of 13 mm/s. To demonstrate its applicability in solution-processable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), we have also fabricated an OLED device with the fine PEDOT:PSS stripe and obtained strong light emission from it.

Non-Offset Longitudinal Shunt Slot Exited by an Asymmetry Compound Iris (비대칭 복합 아이리스에 의해 여기되는 비이격 종방향 션트슬롯)

  • In this paper, a non-offset longitudinal shunt slot excited by an asymmetry compound iris on the broad wall of a rectangular waveguide is presented as an element for a waveguide slot-array antenna(WSAA). By properly adjusting the iris dimension, a resonance of the slot at a desired frequency can be achieved. The proposed resonant slot has some advantageous properties, such as a wide range of normalized resonant conductance, and minimum change of phase in the waveguide at the resonance. In addition, when the slots are arrayed for a waveguide slot antenna, the unwanted cross-polarization level can be reduced because each slot is placed in a straight line. A $8{\times}1$ WSAA with -20 dB side-lobe level(SLL) is designed, fabricated, and tested experimentally. The measured results are well agreed with the simulated ones and have an SLL of -18.13 dB and a cross-polarization level of -48.85 dB at 9.41 GHz, which was improved by about 15 dB of that of the conventional longitudinal slot array antenna.

Design of Wide Band U-slot Patch Antennas for Mobile Communications (이동통신용 광대역 U-슬롯 패치 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, the characteristics of u-slot antennas are computed by changing the feed structure, and compared with the measured results. The impedance bandwidths of 13 %(255.1 MHz) and 30.7 %(602.1 MHz) are obtained for probe feed and L-strip feed, respectively. It is known that the designed L-strip feed can be used for increasing the bandwidth of u-slot antennas. In addition, it is shown that the designed L-strip feed u-slot antenna can be used for domestic PCS and IMT-2000 dual band applications.

Design of Tapered Slot Antenna for UWB Communications (UWB 통신을 위한 테이퍼드 슬롯 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we have proposed a tapered slot antenna for UWB communication system. The tapered slot antenna has directional radiation and broad bandwidth. Proposed tapered slot antenna is designed using Ansys Inc. HFSS and its VSWR, return los, and radiation pattern is analyzed. Operating band of the antenna were satisfied -10 dB S11 and $VSWR{\leq}2$ in 2.7 ~ 4.8 GHz band. The radiation pattern of the antenna is showed in E-plane (YZ plane) and the H-plane (XZ plane) and the highest gain of 7.3 dBi is seen at 4.5 GHz. Therefore, proposed tapered slot antenna has wide bandwidth characteristic and directional for location awareness.
