  • A noncontact nondestructive testing (NDT) method is proposed to detect the damage of pipeline structures and to identify the location of the damage. To achieve this goal, a scanning laser source actuation technique is utilized to generate a guided wave and scans a specific area to find damage location more precisely. The ND: YAG pulsed laser is used to generate Lamb wave and a piezoelectric sensor is installed to measure the structural responses. The measured responses are analyzed using three dimensional Fourier transformation (3DFT). The damage-sensitive features are extracted by wavenumber filtering based on the 3D FT. Then, flaw imaging techniques of a pipeline structures is conducted using the damage-sensitive features. Finally, the pipes with notches are investigated to verify the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed NDT approach.

  • Radiation damping due to wave propagation in unbounded domains may cause a significant reduction of structural vibrations when excited near resonance. Here a novel matrix-valued algebraic Pad$\acute{e}$-like stiffness formulation in the frequency-domain and a corresponding state equation in the time domain are elaborated for a soil-structure interaction problem with a layered soil excited in a transient manner by a flexible rotor during startup and shutdown. The contribution of radiation damping caused by a soil-layer upon a rigid bedrock is characterized by the corresponding amount of critical damping as it is used in structural dynamics.

  • This paper describes an equivalent circuit modeling of 4-port connector system. A coupled transmission line was designed and fabricated, mimicking a 4-port connector system, and then S-parameters were measured using 4 port VNA (Vector Network Analyzer). The S-parameters from measurement and from Full-wave simulator coincided quite nice. By using these S parameters, an equivalent circuit parameters for a 4-port system was obtained. The time domain response from the equivalent circuit model matched to the signals, which was measured using TDR(Time Domain Reflectometry) meter. We were also convinced that there should be enough bandwidth to get a meaningful time domain result from Fourier inverse transformation of the S parameters. In addition, we applied the conversion algorithm to the 4-port connector system, which calculates the S-parameters of a 4 port system using the data from a 2-port VNA with the other ports open. Comparison of the two data, one from measurement and the other one from the conversion algorithm, was made in this manuscript.

  • This paper deals with implementation of inverter systems for DC power regeneration, which can regenerate the excessive DC power from DC bus line to AC supply in substations for traction systems. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, a three-phase square-wave inverter system is adopted. To control the regenerated power, the magnitude and phase of fundamental output voltages should be appropriately controlled in spite of the variation of input DC voltage. Inverters are operated with modified a-conduction mode to fix the potential of each arm. The overall system consists of the line-to-line voltage and line current sensors, an actual power calculator using d-q transformation method, a complex power controller with PI control scheme, a gating signal generator for modified $\alpha-conduction\;mode\;with\;\delta\;and\;\alpha$, a DPLL for frequency followup, and power circuit.

  • In order to apply UTM coordinates conversion in zones larger than $14^{\circ}$ wide, a new conversion formula, based on the 12th expansion of Taylor series, is derived which is shown to be an extension of Thomas' formula(1952). Some examples of coordinate conversion between WGS84 and UTM are presented and convergences of computational results are also tested according to the order of formula. The present conversion formula can be used to make rectangular coordinate grid systems for numerical models to compute long wave propagation such as tide or tsunami around Korea.

  • In this paper, Power Flow Analysis(PFA) method has been applied to the prediction of vibration energy density and intensity of coupled shell structures in the medium-to-high frequency ranges. To consider the wave transformation at joint between shell elements, power transmission and reflection coefficients are investigated for various joint angles, and here Donnell-Mushtari thin shell theory has been used. For validations computations are performed to analyze the response of coupled shells by changing the excitation frequency and damping loss factor.

  • A theoretical model has been studied to describe the sound radiation analysis for structure vibration noise of vehicle tires under the action of random moving line forces. When a tire is analyzed, it had been modeled as curved beams with distributed springs and dash pots that represent the radial, tangential stiffness and damping of tire, respectively. The reaction due to fluid loading on the vibratory response of the curved beam is taken into account. The curved beam is assumed to occupy the plane y=0 and to be axially infinite. The expression for sound power is integrated numerically and the results examined as a function of Mach number, wave-number ratio and stiffness factor. The experimental investigation for structure vibration noise of vehicle tire under the action of random moving line forces has been made. Based on the Spatial Transformation of Sound Field techniques, the sound power and sound radiation are measured. Results strongly suggest that operation condition in the tire material properties and design factors of the tire govern the sound power and sound radiation characteristics.

  • This paper suggests several simple and efficient algorithms for detecting the ECG Signal by Microcomputer's software. The ECG signal detection was performed with the Linear Approximation and the feature extraction. The linear transformation approximates a given waveform by a piecewise-linear function with a preset upper bound on the absolute error between the functional values of the original function and the approximation. And the feature extraction from ECG signal, the features are different wave amplitudes, durations and interwave intervals, used the slope, the amplitude and time-Duration of ECG Sinal.

  • When a ship is running in following and quartering seas and on a crest with the ship′s length being nearly the same as the wave length, ship′s stability will be lost most; "T" shape crests with highly concentrated energy will appear during the process of transformation from irregular waves to regular ones, and the ship may be under continuous impact of large waves for a long period of time; Synchronism will also appear when the ship′s natural period of rolling and period of encounter are close to each other. For safe navigation, proper stability should be well ensured, proper speed and course chosen with speed under 1.8L1/2 kn (L is the ship′s length), initial listing avoided, special attention paid to steering.

  • An approach is presented for efficient numerical integration of the Sormnerfeld type integrals pertinent to the microstrip surface Green's function arising in the problem of an electric current point source on an infinite planar grounded dielectric substrate. This approach, valid for both lossless and lossy dielectric substrates, is based on the deformation of the integration contour via a coordinate transformation and Cauchy's residue theory, and identifies clearly the effects of surface waves. I ts useful application is in a rigorous moment method analysis of micros trip antenna arrays and microstrip guided wave structures. The efficiency and the usefulness of the present approach are emphasized through some numerical calculations of the impedance matrix elements with associated CPU times.
