Leading Depression N (LDN) Wave 조파기법에 기초한 Hybrid Breaker의 지진해일 처오름 저감효과 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of the Depression Effect of Hybrid Breaker on the Run Up Height due to Tsunami based on the Modified Leading Depression N (LDN) Wave Generation Technique)

  • 지진해일에 대한 기존의 연구는 이차원 Boussinesq 모형과 Solitary wave에 기초한 수치해석이 그 주류를 이룬다. 최근 Solitary wave에 의한 처오름 높이가 관측치를 하회한다는 인식에 기초하여 지진해일 내습전 해안선이 전진하는 현상의 모의가 가능한 Leading Depression N (LDN) Wave가 제시되었으며 이에 기초하는 경우 보다 정확한 모의가 가능한 것으로 보고된 바 있다. 이러한 성과에도 불구하고 수리모형 실험의 경우 안정적인 Leading Depression N (LDN) Wave의 구현에 상당한 어려움을 겪어왔다. 이러한 이차원 Boussinesq 모형과 삼차원 수리모형 실험에서의 상충된 결과는 이차원 Boussinesq 계열 파랑 모형 유도과정에서 수행되는 파랑의 비선형성과 분산성이 균형을 이룬다는 가정과 이로 인해 다소 과소하게 평가된 분산성에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다. 이러한 인식에 기초하여 본고에서는 삼차원 수치수조에서 비교적 안정적인 LDN 파형의 조파가 가능한 수정 조파기법과 Navier Stoke 파랑모형에 기초하여 Hybrid Breaker의 지진해일에 의한 처오름 저감효과를 수치 해석하였다. 파랑모형의 검증은 불규칙 파랑을 대상으로 기 수행된 수리모형 실험결과를 토대로 진행되었으며, 그 결과 비교적 근접한 처오름 높이를 얻을 수 있었다. 세 개의 유수실과 전면 경사면으로 구성된 Hybrid Breaker의 경우 일반 경사제에 비해 H = 5m의 경우 약 13%, H = 6 m의 경우 10%정도의 처오름 저감 효과를 지니는 것으로 모의되었다.

수치파 수조를 이용한 설계파 생성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Generation for the Design Waves with a Numerical Wave Tank)

  • In this study, a new numerical procedure for the generation of a nonlinear tailored group of waves is presented. The procedure is based on the transient wave group technique. In order to integrate the nonlinearity during the wave propagation in the computational method, the Navier-Stokes equations are applied as governing equations. The governing equations are discretized by finite volume approximation. The deformation of the free water surface in each time step is pursued with a moving grid. A two-dimensional, numerical wave tank for the simulation of the wave propagation is developed and tested in detail. The numeric results are compared first with analytical wave theories and with measurements, in order to examine the correctness of the numerical wave tank. Wave surface elevation and associated fields of velocity and pressure are numerically computed and compared with measurements. Very good agreements show up.

Generation of Thermoelastic Waves by Irradiating a Metal Slab with a Line-Focused Laser Pulse

  • A 2D finite-element numerical simulation has been developed to investigate the generation of ultrasonic waves in a homogeneous isotropic elastic slab under a line-focused laser irradiation. Discussing the physical processes involved in the thermoelastic phenomena, we describe a model for the pulsed laser generation of ultrasound in a metal slab. Addressing an analytic method, on the basis of an integral transform technique, for obtaining the solutions of the elastodynamic equation, we outline a finite element method for a numerical simulation of an ultrasonic wave propagation. We present the numerical results for the displacements and the stresses generated by a line-focused laser pulse on the surface of a stainless steel slab.

Numerical simulation of wave and current interaction with a fixed offshore substructure

  • Offshore substructures have been developed to support structures against complex offshore environments. The load at offshore substructures is dominated by waves, and deformation of waves caused by interactions with the current is an important phenomena. Wave load simulation of fixed offshore substructures in waves with the presence of uniform current was carried out by numerical wave tank technique using the commercial software, FLUENT. The continuity and Navier-Stokes equations were applied as the governing equations for incompressible fluid motion, and numerical wavemaker was employed to reproduce offshore wave environment. Convergence test against grids number was carried out to investigate grid dependency and optimized conditions for numerical wave generation were derived including investigation of the damping effect against length of the damping domain. Numerical simulation of wave and current interactions with fixed offshore substructure was carried out by computational fluid dynamics, and comparison with other experiments and simulations results was conducted.

Ultrasonic ranging technique for obstacle monitoring above reactor core in prototype generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor

  • As the refueling of a sodium-cooled fast reactor is conducted by rotating part of the reactor head without opening it, the monitoring of existing obstacles that can disturb the rotation of the reactor head is one of the most important issues. This paper deals with the ultrasonic ranging technique that directly monitors the existence of possible obstacles located in a lateral gap between the upper internal structure and the reactor core in a prototype generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor (PGSFR). A 10 m long plate-type ultrasonic waveguide sensor, whose feasibility has been successfully demonstrated through preliminary tests, was employed for the ultrasonic ranging technique. The design of the sensor's wave radiating section was modified to improve the radiation performance, and the radiated field was investigated through beam profile measurements. A test facility simulating the lower part of the upper internal structure and the upper part of the reactor core with the same shapes and sizes as those in the PGSFR was newly constructed. Several under-water performance tests were then carried out at room temperature to investigate the applicability of the developed ranging technique using the plate-type ultrasonic waveguide sensor with the actual geometry of the PGSFR's internal structures.

Experimental Study for Defects Inspection of CFRP Using Laser-Generated Ultrasound

  • The fabrication process of fiber placement system of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) requires real time process control and reliable inspection to ensure quality by preventing defects such as delamination and void. Therefore, novel non-contact inspection technique is required during the non-destructive evaluation in a fiber placement system. For the inspection of delamination in CFRP, various methods to receive laser-generated ultrasound were applied by using piezoelectric transducer, air-coupled transducer, wavelet transform and scanning laser ultrasonic technique. Laser-generated ultrasound was received with a conventional piezoelectric sensor in contacting manner. Then signal characteristics due to defects were analyzed to find a factor for detecting defects. Air-coupled transducer was used for reception of laser-generated guided wave using linear slit array in order to generate high frequency guided wave. And line scan technique was used to confirm the capability of on-line application. The high frequency component of laser-generated guided wave received with piezoelectric sensor disappeared after propagating through delamination region. Nevertheless, it was failed to receive high frequency guided wave in using air-coupled transducer. The first peak of the frequency spectrum under 100kHz in the delamination region is higher than in the sound region. By using this feature, the line scanned frequency data were acquired in fully non-contact generation and reception of ultrasound. This method was proved as useful technique for detecting delamination in CFRP.

  • Master laser(ML)의 직접 변조로 생성된 여러 개의 side-bands 중 두 개의 target band게 두 개의 Slave laser(SL)가 각각 lock이 되도록 하는 side-band injection-locking 방법을 이용하여 광학적 60㎓의 밀리미터파 신호를 구현하였다 ML에 lock이 된 두 SL의 output들은 photo detection시 서로 beating하여 안정적이고 매우 깨끗한 60㎓ 신호를 생성하였다.

Coil Spring Inspection for Reliability Assurance of Automobile Suspension System using Guided Wave

  • Coil spring of automobile suspension system is very important to safety and dynamics of passenger car and requires a highly advanced quality control during manufacturing processes. Surface cracks on the coil spring rod produced by mechanical machining and heat treatment may cause a severe accident and large cost to the manufacturer. In order to detect surface cracks of the rod, guided wave technique is applied for a fast total volumetric inspection. Pochhammer equation is studied to investigate the dispersion characteristics of the guided wave in the spring rod and optimal wave modes sensitive to the surface crack are selected experimentally to design the experimental arrangement for the generation of guided wave. Rod samples with different size of artificial axial EDM notch on the surface ranging from 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 1 mm are examined by guided wave and inspection results discussed.

  • The pulse width modulated inverters based on fully digitalized method are becoming an industrial standard. This paper describes a real time generation of fully digitalized PWM pulses and its realization by single chip microprocessor. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique, the algorithm is implemented by using single chip microprocessor, 8097BH. The proposed method is compared with the well known triangular comparison method through experimental results, and the speed control of a motor is experimentally done by voltage-to-frequency constant control based on the proposed PWM generation method.

연속 쇄파선 끝단 지속시간에 따른 이안류 발달 수리실험 연구 (Laboratory experiment of evolution of rip current according to the duration of successive ends of breaking wave crests)

  • 연속된 쇄파 파봉선 끝단사이로 발달하는 이안류를 수리실험을 통해 재현하고 입사파 지속시간의 변화에 따른 이안류 발달 특성을 정사보정 영상을 통해 관찰하였다. 서로 다른 두 협각의 파랑 중첩에 의해 생성되는 벌집구조 파를 재현하는 대신에 조파장치를 횡방향 두 그룹으로 나누어 역 위상으로 구동시켜 규칙파를 조파하므로 유사 벌집구조 파형을 생성하여 실험을 수행하였다. 수리 실험에서 재현된 이안류의 생성과 발달 과정을 관찰하기 위해 정사보정 영상기반 입자 추적 기법을 사용하였으며, 이를 통해 이동거리와 속도를 관측하였다. 연속된 쇄파선 끝단이 해안으로 입사하여 이안류가 생성되지만, 이안류가 생성된 후 파랑이 더 이상 입사되지 않아도 상당시간 동안 이안류가 발달하여 입자들이 외해로 이동하는 것을 확인하였다.
