Mukbang and Cookbang watching and dietary behavior in Korean adolescents

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Given that adolescents watch Mukbang (eating broadcast) more frequently than other age groups, interest in the potential health effects of watching Mukbang and Cookbang (cooking broadcast) is growing. This study aimed to determine the status of watching Mukbang and Cookbang among Korean adolescents and its relationship with their dietary behaviors. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We used data from the 18th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey, conducted in 2022 (n = 51,850). The study included the frequency of watching Mukbang and Cookbang and the self-rated impact of watching them. Dietary behaviors included consumption of the following items: fruits (≥ once a day), vegetables (≥ 3 times a day), fast foods (≥ 3 times a week), late-night snacks (≥ 3 times a week), caffeinated drinks (≥ 3 times a week), and sweet-flavored drinks (≥ 3 times a week). Furthermore, obesity, weight loss attempts during the past 30 days, body image distortion, and inappropriate methods to control weight were also included. RESULTS: Among adolescents, 70.6% watched Mukbang and Cookbang, and 13.2% watched them more than 5 times a week. Approximately 27.6% of the adolescents responded that they were influenced by watching Mukbang and Cookbang. Adolescents who frequently watched Mukbang and Cookbang consumed less vegetable and fruit; however, the likelihood of consuming fast food, late-night snacks, sugary drinks, and caffeinated drinks increased. In addition, they were more likely to attempt inappropriate weight-loss methods and become obese. Adolescents who responded that their eating habits were influenced by watching Mukbang and Cookbang were more likely to have unhealthy eating behavior compared to the group who responded that their habits were not influenced by these shows. CONCLUSION: Watching Mukbang and Cookbang is common among Korean adolescents and is associated with unhealthy dietary behaviors. Prospective studies, including broadcasting content, should evaluate the impact of Mukbang and Cookbang on health.

Relationships between Middle and High School Students' Experience of Viewing Media Sports Violence and the Imitation Behavior

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between the variables related to media sports violence viewing experience, negative emotion, aggression and violent imitation behavior of middle school students and high school students. The subjects of 240 middle school students and 240 high school students were surveyed for 2 months. Among the collected data, 64 samples judged to have low reliability were excluded from the analysis, and the final 416 data were used. The questionnaire used in this study consisted of four potential variables including experience of watching media sports violence, negative emotion, aggression, and violent imitation behavior. Among the sub-variables of experience of watching media sports violence, exogenous potential variables except frequency, period and time and questions that are endogenous potential variables were composed of a questionnaire of 5-point Likert scale. results of this study were analyzed using the AMOS statistical program, which was used to identify the causal relationship between watching media sports violence and negative emotion, aggression, and violent imitation behavior. There was no significant difference in violent imitation behavior according to school grade. The causal models for media sports violence viewing experience, negative emotions, aggression and violent imitation behavior were found to be appropriate. It was found that there was a significant causal relationship between the viewing experience of sports violence and the violent imitation behavior. Therefore, in order to reduce the imitation behavior of adolescents, it is necessary to be more careful about the production and viewing of sports violence programs at the institutions and homes that produce media.

박물관 전시공간구조와 관람행태의 상관관계 재해석에 관한 연구 - 전시밀도와 시각개방도에 따른 관람확률 해석을 중심으로 - (Reinterpretation on the Relationship between Spatial Structure and Visitors' Movement in Museums - Focus on the Interpretation of Tracking Score with Exhibition Density and Extent of Eyesight -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between spatial space structure and visitors' behavior and interpret visitors' behavior concretely from the aspect of exhibition environments. So, this study intends to qualify spatial space structure with integration, connectivity and control value by utilizing space syntax, limit to tracking score among the analysis index and reinterpret with exhibition density and extend of eyesight among the exhibition environments. The results of this study are as follows; First, in case of museums, tracking score shows plus correlation with connectivity and control value among the space syntax variables and very low correlation with integration. In case of art museums, tracking score shows plus correlation with integration and wide variable is judged to more useful to analyze visitor's behavior than minor variable. Second, museums doesn't make a great effect on visitors' behavior from the aspect of extent of eyesight, but from the aspect of exhibition density, visitors relatively watched evenly without short cut at the early stage of exhibition in spite of high exhibition density. And, they conducted short cut as they went to the middle stage of exhibition on the course of watching although the numerical value of exhibition density is low. Third, in case of art museums, visitors' behavior was relatively influenced by exhibition density, not extent of eyesight. But, as they went to the high level on the course of watching, watching speed became rapid and watching length became short in the place the value of extent of eyesight was high. Its reason is judged to be easy to grasp position or space structure of the next exhibition room visually. Therefore, when the concentration of watching is necessary from the aspect of exhibition, to control exhibition density properly before the space is useful to draw visiting to exhibition space afterward.

수용자의 몰아보기 이용동기와 지속적 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 영향 요인에 대한 연구 (Explicating Motivations & Attitudes Affecting the Persistent Intention to Adopt Binge-Watching)

  • 2013년 미국의 OTT기업 넷플릭스(Netflix)가 '하우스 오브 카드 시즌1' 13편을 온라인 동시개봉한 후 몰아보기(binge-watching)는 빅뱅을 맞이했다. 한 자리에서 2편이상의 동일 프로그램을 연속으로 이어 보는 몰아보기는 전세계에서 벌어지고 있는 시청행태 변화이자 문화적 사회적 현상이다. 본 연구는 Venkatesh의 확장된 기술수용모델을 이용하여 몰아보기 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인과 동기에 대해 알아보았다. 이에 본 연구에서는 전 세계적으로 새로운 TV시청 행태이자 문화적, 사회적 현상이기도 한 몰아보기에 대해 이용자들은 어떻게 인식하고 있는지, 이런 인식들이 몰아보기 이용의도에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 그를 바탕으로 몰아보기를 둘러싼 변인들 상호간에 어떤 역학관계를 보이는지를 이용자 측면에서 이해하고자 하였다. 부수적으로 인구통계학적 변인도 살펴보았다. 그를 통해 공급자 측면과 정책적 측면에 대해서도 고찰해 본다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 온라인 설문 조사를 실시하였으며 유효 설문 응답자는 총333명였다. 분석결과 몰아보기 동기요인은 모두 5개의 요인군으로 분류되었는데 <프로그램의 화제성>, <본방사수의 어려움>, <몰아보기의 기능성> 요인군은 몰아보기에 대한 지속적 이용의도와 유의미한 관련성(+)을 보인 반면 <몰아보기의 상대적 잇점 재미>, <몰아보기의 경제성 요인>군은 몰아보기에 대한 지속적 이용의도와 부적(-)인 관계를 보였다. 회귀분석 결과이용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 어릴수록, 몰아보기를 자주 할수록, 지각된 유용성을 높게 평가할 수록 몰아보기 이용의도가 높게 나타났다. 또한 부수적으로 하우스 오브 카드 제작과정 분석을 통해 변인 도출의 현실성을 더했고, 몰아보기가 C-P-N-D 콘텐츠 가치사슬 전반에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 본 연구가 차세대 콘텐츠 기획과 관련 영상산업 발전에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

OTT(Over-the-Top) 서비스의 몰아보기 시청행위 영향 요인 탐색 (Examining Factors Affecting the Binge-Watching Behaviors of OTT Services)

  • 본 연구는 온라인동영상서비스 OTT(Over-the-Top) 이용자의 몰아보기(Binge-watching) 시청행위에 영향을 미치는 요인을 실증적으로 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 2018년 한국언론진흥재단 미디어연구센터의 'OTT 서비스 이용자 인식조사'에 참여한 OTT 이용 경험자 1,000명의 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 종속변수는 OTT 서비스 몰아보기로 설정하였으며, 독립변수는 성별, 연령, OTT 서비스 이용 빈도, OTT 콘텐츠 프로그램 추천 알고리즘 만족도, OTT에서 주로 이용하는 콘텐츠 유형을 포함하였다. OTT 몰아보기 시청행위의 예측 요인은 다층 퍼셉트론(MLP) 인공신경망 알고리즘을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 연령, OTT 콘텐츠 프로그램 추천 알고리즘 만족도, OTT 서비스 이용 빈도, OTT에서 주로 이용하는 콘텐츠 유형 중 국내드라마, 국내영화, 해외드라마 등이 OTT 몰아보기 시청행위에 중요도가 높은 요인으로 밝혀졌다.

노인의 TV 건강프로그램 시청과 건강행위 실천과의 관련성 (Correlations between Old People's Watching of Television Programs and Practice of Health Behaviors)

  • 본 연구는 현재 방송되고 있는 TV 건강프로그램에 대한 노인들의 인식, 시청행태 및 만족도를 파악하여 건강행위 실천에 미치는 영향을 조사하고자 2008년 3월 17일부터 3월 28일까지 경상북도 포항시에 거주하는 노인 293명을 대상으로 설문조사 하였으며, 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. TV 건강프로그램에 대한 최근 1개월간의 시청경험은 86.3%이었고, 학력, 비만도, 병력이 시청빈도에 유의한 차이를 보였다. 대상자의 건강행위 실천도는 62.1%가 높다고 하였고, 17.7%가 낮다고 하였다. 건강행위 실천확률에 유의하게 영향을 미치는 요인은 성별, 건강관심도, 시청경험이었으며, 남자가 여자보다 1.78배, 건강관심도가 있는 경우가 없는 경우보다 3.3배, 시청경험이 있는 경우가 없는 경우보다 6.1배 건강행위 실천도가 높았다. 노인들의 TV 건강프로그램에 대한 인식은 긍정적이었으며, 시청빈도가 높을수록 건강행위 실천이 높았다. 또한 노인들의 건강프로그램에 대한 높은 시청률은 건강프로그램 내의 정보에 노출될 기회가 많음을 의미한다. 따라서 TV 건강프로그램은 노인들의 요구에 충족할 수 있는 올바른 건강정보를 제공하도록 노력하여야 할 것으로 생각된다.

Information Behavior on Social Live Streaming Services

  • In the last few years, a new type of synchronous social networking services (SNSs) has emerged—social live streaming services (SLSSs). Studying SLSSs is a new and exciting research field in information science. What information behaviors do users of live streaming platforms exhibit? In our empirical study we analyzed information production behavior (i.e., broadcasting) as well as information reception behavior (watching streams and commenting on them). We conducted two quantitative investigations, namely an online survey with YouNow users (N = 123) and observations of live streams on YouNow (N = 434). YouNow is a service with video streams mostly made by adolescents for adolescents. YouNow users like to watch streams, to chat while watching, and to reward performers by using emoticons. While broadcasting, there is no anonymity (as in nearly all other WWW services). Synchronous SNSs remind us of the film The Truman Show, as anyone has the chance to consciously broadcast his or her own life real-time.

제주도 북동해역에서 관경을 위한 목시조사 (A Sighting Survey of Dolphin Watching in the Northeastern Waters of Jeju)

  • This study presents the results of basic sighting surveys conducted for dolphin watching from 2004 to 2006 in the northeastern waters of Jeju. The sighting probability of dolphins (bottlenose dolphin, Tursiops truncatus) was 71.9% (82 sightings out of 114 surveys). The dolphin's attractive behaviors observed included leaping, tail or peduncle slapping and surfing. The findings of this study provide useful baseline data for dolphin watching in the northeastern waters of Jeju.

Understanding Watching Patterns of Live TV Programs on Mobile Devices: A Content Centric Perspective

  • With the rapid development of smart devices and mobile Internet, the video application plays an increasingly important role on mobile devices. Understanding user behavior patterns is critical for optimized operation of mobile live streaming systems. On the other hand, volume based billing models on cloud services make it easier for video service providers to scale their services as well as to reduce the waste from oversized service capacities. In this paper, the watching behaviors of a commercial mobile live streaming system are studied in a content-centric manner. Our analysis captures the intrinsic correlation existing between popularity and watching intensity of programs due to the synchronized watching behaviors with program schedule. The watching pattern is further used to estimate traffic volume generated by the program, which is useful on data volume capacity reservation and billing strategy selection in cloud services. The traffic range of programs is estimated based on a naive popularity prediction. In cross validation, the traffic ranges of around 94% of programs are successfully estimated. In high popularity programs (>20000 viewers), the overestimated traffic is less than 15% of real happened traffic when using upper bound to estimate program traffic.
