A Study on the Technique to Manufacture Recycled Cement from Cementitious Powders for Complete Recycling of Concrete Structures (콘크리트 구조물의 완전순환이용을 위한 폐콘크리트계 미분말의 재생시멘트 활용 기술 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is development of technique to use cementitious powder as recycle cement produced from deteriorated Concrete waste which has a large quantity of calcium carbonate. Therefore, after having theoretical consideration based on the properties of high-heated concrete and concerning about neutralization of Concrete, we analysis chemical properties of ingredients of cementitious powder. After making origin cement paste, then processing the accelarated carbonation, we consider the properties of hydration and chemical properties of cementitious powder under various temperature conditions. As a result of the thermal analysis, the $CaCO_3$ content of cementitious powder would affect decision of heat temperature to recover its hydrated ability because $CaCO_3$ content is increased when neutralization is progressed. And as a result of XRD analysis, in case of origin powder of non-neutralized paste, CaO peak is found at $700^{\circ}C$. but, heat temperature to generate CaO would increase when the content of neutralized ingredients is increased. Finally, recycle cement heated at $700^{\circ}C$ 120min. shows the best compressive strength when the content of neutralized ingredients in recycle cement is less then 50%.

  • It has developed a method that can recover efficiently the reproducible resources from the vehicle waste lithium second battery module. Module cell consists of copper thin film, aluminum thin film and diaphragm made with polymer between these thin films. Cell was disassembled completely without any damage in glove box and through several steps. Preferentially, cathode active material was separated from aluminum thin film at heat treatment of 400 ℃. The retrieved cathode active material was then obtained as high purity after calcining at 800 ℃ to remove residual carbon. Based on this study, it was found that rare metals such as Co, Ni, Mn and Li made up of cathode active material could recover above 80% from aluminum thin film.

Heat Recovery Characteristics of the Hot Water Supply System with Exhaust Heat Recovery Unit Attached to the Hot Air Heater for Plant Bed Heating in the Greenhouse (온풍난방기의 배기열을 이용한 지중 난방용 온수공급시스템의 열회수특성)

  • Hot air heater with light oil burner is the most common heater for greenhouse heating in the winter season in Korea. However, since the thermal efficiency of the heater is about 80∼85%, considerable unused heat amount in the form of exhaust gas heat discharges to atmosphere. In order to capture this exhaust heat a heat recovery system for plant bed heating in the greenhouse was built and tested in the hot air heating system of greenhouse. The heat recovery system is made for plant bed or soil heating in the greenhouse. The system consisted of a heat exchanger made of copper pipes, ${\Phi}12.7{\times}0.7t$ located in the rectangular column of $330{\times}330{\times}900mm$, a water circulation pump, circulation plastic pipe and a water tank. The total heat exchanger area is 1.5$m^2$, calculated considering the heat exchange amount between flue gas and water circulated in the copper pipes. The system was attached to the exhaust gas path. The heat recovery system was designed as to even recapture the latent heat of flue gas when exposing to low temperature water in the heat exchanger. According to the performance test it could recover 45,200 to 51,000kJ/hr depending on the water circulation rates of 330 to $690\ell$/hr from the waste heat discharged. The exhaust gas temperature left the heat exchanger dropped to $100^{\circ}C$ from $270^{\circ}C$ by the heat exchange between the water and the flue gas, while water gained the difference and temperature increased to $38^{\circ}C$ from $21^{\circ}C$ at the water flow rate of $690\ell$/hr. By the feasibility test conducted in the greenhouse, the system did not encounter any difficulty in operations. And, the system could recover 220,235kJ of exhaust gas heat in a day, which is equivalent of 34% of the fuel consumption by the water boiler for plant bed heating of 0.2ha in the greenhouse.

  • Recently, research has been conducted to develop the ORC (organic Rankine cycle), to recover waste heat from facilities such as industrial plants ultimately to create mechanical or electrical energy. The ORC system consists of a heat exchange, a condenser, a pump and a boiler. In this paper, 84 flow analyses were conducted with 21 cases and three variables, i.e., a number of large wings, a number of small wings, and RPMs. R245fa was used as a refrigerant. The flow cavitation phenomenon was investigated through a flow analysis, and a flow stream analysis was conducted.

  • Recently, automotive engineers have paid much attention to waste heat recovery technology as a possible means to improve the thermal efficiency of an automotive engine. A large displacement gasoline engine is generally a V-type engine. It is not cost effective to install two superheaters at each exhaust manifold for the heat recovery purposes. A single superheater could be installed as close to the exhaust manifold as possible for the higher recovery efficiency; however, only half of exhaust gas can be used for heat recovery. On the contrary, the exhaust temperature is decreased for the case where the superheater is installed at a junction of two exhaust tail pipes. With the fact in mind, the optimum position of a single superheater was investigated using simulation models developed from a commercial software package (i.e. AMESim). It was found that installing the superheater near the exhaust manifold could recover 3.8 kW more from the engine exhaust despite utilizing only half of the exhaust mass flow. Based on this result, the optimum layout of an automotive waste heat recovery system was developed and proposed in this paper.

  • The problem of disposing of huge quantities of used tires is of growing concern to every country. As an economical solid waste management, a gasification followed by incineration process was applied to scrap tires to recover heat and to reduce waste volume for final landfill disposal. The gasification temperature, combustible and non-combustible gasified products and possibly produced air pollutants were predicted by changing equivalent mole ratios of carbon to oxygen by a chemical equilibrium model. For a risk assessment of ash toxic pollutants including heavy metals and toxic organics were thoroughly analyzed. Gasification bottom ash contained much more toxic organic compounds than fly ash, whereas fly ash contained higher concentration of heavy metals such as Pb and Cd. Pretreatment or secure landfill technology is suggested for a safe management of ash produced from the gasification incinerators.

  • With the increasing demand for electronic products, the amount of multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) waste has also increased. Recycling technology has recently gained attention because it can simultaneously address raw material supply and waste disposal issues. However, research on recovering valuable metals from MLCCs and converting the recovered metals into high-value-added materials remains insufficient. Herein, we describe an electrospinning (E-spinning) process to recover nickel from MLCCs and modulate the morphology of the recovered nickel oxide particles. The nickel oxalate powder was recovered using organic acid leaching and precipitation. Nickel oxide nanoparticles were prepared via heat treatment and ultrasonic milling. A mixture of nickel oxide particles and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as the E-spinning solution. A PVP/NiO nanowire composite was fabricated via E-spinning, and a nickel oxide nanowire with a network structure was manufactured through calcination. The nanowire diameters and morphologies are discussed based on the nickel oxide content in the E-spinning solution.

According to performance test it can recover 45,200 to 51,000kJ/hr depending on the water circulation rates of 330 to $690{\ell}$/hr from the waste heat discharged. The exhaust gas temperature left from the heat exchanger dropped to $100^{circ}C$ from $270^{circ}C$ by the heat exchange between the water and the flue gas, while water gained the difference and temperature increased to $38^{circ}C$ from $21^{circ}C$ at the water flow rate of $690{\ell}$/hr. And, the condensed water amount varies from 16 to $43m{\ell}$ at the same water circulation rates. This condensing heat recovery system can reduce boiler fuel consumption amount in a day by 34% according to the feasibility study of the actual mimitomato greenhouse. No combustion load was observed in the hot air heater.

A Study on the Optimal Operating Conditions for an Unreacted Hydrogen Oxidation-Heat Recovery System for the Safety of the Hydrogen Utilization Process (수소 활용공정 안전성 확보를 위한 미반응 수소 산화-열 회수 시스템의 운전 조건 최적화 연구)

  • In this study, a catalytic oxidation-heat recovery system was designed that can remove unreacted with a concentration of about 1% to 6% in the exhaust gas of hydrogen fuel cells and recover heat to ensure safety in the hydrogen economy. The safety system was devised by filling hydrogen oxidation catalysts at room temperature that can remove unreacted hydrogen without any energy source, and an exhaust-heat recovery device was integrated to efficiently recover the heat released from the oxidation reaction. Through CFD analysis, variations in pressure and fluid within the system were shown depending on the filling conditions of the hydrogen oxidation system. In addition, it was found that waste heat could be recovered by optimizing the temperature of the exhaust gas, flow rate, and pressure conditions within the heat recovery system and securing hot water above 40 ℃ by utilizing the exhaust gas oxidation heat source above 300 ℃. Through this study, it was possible to confirm the potential of utilizing hydrogen processes, which are applied in small to medium-sized systems such as hydrogen fuel cells, as a safety system by evaluating them at a pilot scale. Additionally, it could be a safety guideline for responding to unexpected hydrogen safety accidents through further pilot-scale studies.

  • Effective use of available energy sources is of general concern along with the issues of global warming and unstable oil price. As one of the effort to recover waste heat from industrial facilities effectively, researchers have interest in a technology called organic Rankine cycle(ORC), in which the working fluid is some organic liquid instead of water. Known to have poor efficiency already, this old technology is considered to give an innovative solution to utilizing low grade energy sources, by improving the efficiency. Nano fluidics, coatings and the use of additives are the examples of these efforts. In the present study, we present simulated performance of a horizontal tube type condenser geometry. N-hexanr and isopentane are compared to water vapor case under 1 atm and the inet cooling water temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. EES(Engineering Equations Solver) is used for the present work.
