This study aims to provide a program for the municipal solid waste collection and transportation management through data consolidation and field research of the materials about waste collection and transportation in a small city. The field research was conducted in the collection zone of the housing, apartment and business section within C city area. As a result, the main factor of collection and transportation plan required at the waste collection and transportation process and the central mean applying at the small city were calculated. The process that systemize the waste collection and transportation step and the expert system were constructed. In conclusion, the developed management system of the municipal solid waste collection and transportation can be wildly used by adding the data of other zone.
Background: At the end of the'Waste Drug Disposal Project', collection and disposal of waste drugs remain a social issue. Objective: This study aimed to provide suggestions to improve the drug waste management system in Korea by comparing domestic and overseas relevant programs. Methods: This is a comparative study between South Korea, Australia, Canada, France, and the US. These overseas countries were selected because they have been operating waste drug management programs continuously to date. Comparison was conducted by a pre-determined analysis frame including legal regulation, enforcement program and its performance. Results: All selected countries except Australia had legal regulations on drug wastes. The US had the largest variety of drug waste disposal methods. Canada had recommended that pharmacies actively participate in drug waste withdrawal programs. France had the largest variety of methods to promote relevant programs, including window sticker, SNS, and app, as well as the highest level of awareness and participation. Australia had the lowest level of awareness and participation in pharmaceutical waste management programs. Pharmaceutical companies took responsibility of paying for these programs in the selected overseas countries. Conclusion: Further efforts should be made to establish a clear guideline including the role of pharmaceutical companies, and to develop various methods for the public to be aware of appropriate ways of disposing drug wastes in Korea.

There is no simple method to solve livestock waste problems satisfactorily. For a successful solution, various methods should be well organized orderly depending upon the situation. Even in the livestock waste management, integrated waste management principle should be applied. Minimization of livestock waste generation is the first priority. It is also important to distribute fairly livestock farms throughout the nation. Efficient management of permit system is equally important. Permit should be given only when the farmer have enough grass-land on which the farmer can apply more than two thirds of livestock waste generated or when the farm have an anaerobic digestor in which store livestock waste generated for at least 3 months. In principle, livestock waste should be treated in the farm and it is desirable to operate composting facilities in the farm site too.

An information management system for a solid waste landfill site was developed, in this study, to optimize the operation and management of solid waste landfill in real time in addition to provide the information of landfill status to the landfill operator, public official concerned and local residents. The landfill information management system is composed of two systems (Solid waste landfill history management system and landfill operation and performance management system). The solid waste landfill history management system based on automated RFID/LPR system allows landfill operators to provide information of waste collection vehicles and received waste. In addition, the system aids in the identification of 3-dimensional (3D) position for landfilled solid wastes. Using the landfill operation and performance management system based on 3D laser scanner delivers information about landfill volume, settlement, landfill density, and current landfill capacity to landfill operators in real time, resulting in optimum space utilization. Ultimately, this system would dramatically reduce exposure of landfill operators to hazardous materials and improve the productivity of landfill operations.
In this paper, we discuss the experiences during the preparation of the Wolsong Low- and Intermediate-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Center. These experiences have importance as a first implementation for the national LILW disposal facility in the Republic of Korea. As for the progress, it relates to the area of selected disposal site, the disposal site characteristics, waste characteristics of the disposal facility, safety assessment, and licensing process. During these experiences, we also discuss the necessity for new organization and change for a radioactive waste management system. Further effort for the safe management of radioactive waste needs to be pursued.
A research was performed for zero discharge system of waste water which is produced from energy recovery process of waste and biomass. Leachate and all kinds of waste water should be separated and integrated into three categories in addition to converting existing leachate treatment facility into waste water treatment facility as well as introducing a management system of reverse osmosis membrane facility and bioreactor landfill. Following these conditions to better water treatment process, it was likely to produce over 3,000 tons of low-grade recycling water and 2,000 tons of high-grade recycling water per day when zero discharge system of waste water is applied starting from 2016. Economical efficiency was also surveyed in total treatment fee. Present system costs 18,129 million won per year, and suggested zero discharge system would cost 15,789 million won per year.

This paper presents a sophisticated mixed-integer linear programming model that may help regional decision-maker to develop long term plan of solid waste management The model revises Ni-Bin Chang(1996)'s integrated waste management models to fit Korean solid waste management system We apply this model to evaluate impact of facility sharing and coordinated operation among three self-governing districts in Seoul city Our study results indicate that facility sharing and coordinated operation among districts eliminate unnecessary landfilling and facility expansion.

Beijing and Seoul are the capital of China and Korea, and political, economic, cultural, and tourist centers as well. Beijing is most likely to follow the footsteps of Seoul in the process of urbanization. The purpose of this study is to find out differences and improvements by comparing the solid waste management system between Beijing and Seoul. China classifies waste into urban waste, industrial waste and hazardous waste, which is the same as Korea did in 1980s. Beijing's policy directions in the waste management is similar to Seoul's in the early 1990s when Seoul strived to construct incinerators and landfill. Beijing's waste management achievements are also similar to Seoul's in that the ratio of recycling and incineration is high and that of landfill is low. Hence, it is expected for the waste management policies and achievement of two cities to resemble more and more. Financial burdens of government, indifference of citizens, and decentralized organizations of waste management might be the issues for Beijing to solve. In particular, to implement the user fee system and to encourage citizens to participate in waste separation discharge appear to be key issues in Beijing. Seoul should take a look at which the Beijing government itself collects waste in station and central area.

This paper has studied and developed a tool for water and waste-water maintenance management with which builds a database of various construction information and makes easier the report writing and data searching. The maintenance management for water and waste and water is a method and system to control a water and waste-water scientifically and structurally, and is also a combination system that connects water and waste-water construction companies with the related department of government, or local government by using a database. It has also analyzed problems on controlling method of an existing water and waste water, and explained functions to improve fallouts of a conventional system and expected effects when using the improved program.
