  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of visual rhythmic stimulation in gait ability and proprioception in chronic stroke patients. Twenty-one persons after six months post stroke participated in pre and post test control. The subjects were randomly assigned to a rhythmic visual stimulation(RVS) group (n=10) and control group (n=11). Training process was practiced with exercise on thirty minutes a day, three days a week for four weeks. To find out the effect, inspected the proprioception test and gait characteristics by gait analysis. In gait characteristics, the walking speed, cadence and the TUG time were significantly different from RVS group. The proprioception were significantly different RVS and control group. This study showed that the RVS training increased better functional activity by postural adjustment and gait learning of chronic stroke patients than that of control group. And so, the RVS training of hemiplegic patients was very important to successive rehabilitation. A continuous examination of RVS training could be practical use of physical therapy with exercise.

  • Objective : This study was aimed to investigate the effective treatment for patients with thoracic outlet syndrome. Method : This study was carried out to established the clinical criteria of thoracic outlet syndrome. We collected and analyzed the data of patients had come to the GyeonWoo Oriental Medical Clinic after traffic accidents from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. The patients with thoracic outlet syndrome were treated with acupuncture, chuna therapy for 4 weeks. Visual Analog Scale(V.A.S.) was used as the tools determining the effects of oriental medical treatment on neck pain. Result : The treatment of Korean Medicine(KM) including acupuncture, chuna therapy decreased V.A.S. significantly. Conclusion : Acupuncture, chuna therapy were useful treatment for relieving the hand paresthesia due to thoracic outlet syndrome.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the effect of cervical stabilization exercise on pain and structure in patients with cervical artificial disc replacement. Methods: Forty-four individuals with cervical artificial disc replacement volunteered to participate from FEB 2012 to MAR 2013 in this study. They were allocated to either Experimental Group (EG) or Control Group (CG), with 22 subjects in each group. Subjects from the EG performed cervical stabilization exercise program and subjects from the CG performed isometric exercise program. Assessment tools were made with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), and Cervical Lordosis Angle (CLA). Results: In this study, in within-group and between-group comparison, the EG and CG showed significant differences in all parameters(p<0.05). But EG showed more improvement than CG at all parameters. Conclusion: These findings suggest that cervical stabilization exercise may be favorably used to improve VAS, NDI and CLA in patients with cervical artificial disc replacement. Further studies with larger sample and long-term follow-up period need to generalize the results of this study.

  • Object: The aim of this study is to descrive the effect of neurodynamic technique and self management exercise for carpal tunnel syndrome patients(CTS) Method: 13 patients with CTS participated in this study. They were from 18 to 70 years old and mean age was 25.3. In the evalutaion, gripping with grip dynamometer, strength of gripping with precision pinchmeter, pain level with visual analogue scale. All measurement of each subject were measure at pre- treatment and post treatment(after 1week) and post treattment(after 2 weeks) stage. The physical therapy program consisted of neurodynamic technique and self management exercise. SPSS 12.0 program was used to compile result. Result: The grip, pinch, VAS-P were significantly difference between pre-treatment and post treatment(after 2weeks)(p<.05) Conclusion: This study suggest that 3weeks neurodynamic technique and self management exercise improved grip and pinch strength and decrease pain score.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate meta-analysis on the effects of exercise therapy and physiotherapy on pain in korean patients with chronic low back pain. Method: Meta-analysis was performed on the type and method of treatment. A total of 23 experimental studies were coding into 31 individual studies, into types, methods, visual analogue scale (VAS), each pre/post value of the effect size was calculated by meta-analysis. Results: Sling exercise, stretching, thermal therapy, kinesio-taping, lumbar stabilization exercise, electrotherapy is large effect size (ES ≥ .08). In addition, big effects occurred in order of treatment period is more than 9 weeks, three times a week. Conclusion: Our results indicated that persistent treatment of chronic back pain is the most effective method of self-sufficiency rather than temporary relief.

  • The object of this study is to report a clinical effect regarding the conservative treatment of the patients who were diagnosed as the herniated intervertebral lumbar disc(HIVD). The patients were treated by the oriental medical conservative treatment including acupunture, Bee venom therapy and Chu-na therapy. We estimated by visual analogue scale and pain rating score subjectively. And we examined the patients with SLR test and valsalva test. Oriental medical conservative treatment improved HIVD subjuctively and objectively.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of oriental medical therapy(OMT) and psychotherapy to a somatoform disorder patient with chronic pelycalgia and hemiparesis. Methods: We treated the patient with psychotherapy such as relaxation therapy and suggestion. OMT that we used is represented by retention enema therapy. The recovery of the pelycalgia was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results: Following the treatment the patient's pelycalgia and hemiparesis was improved. The sum of VAS score was rapidly decreased(from 113 to 28). Conclusion: OMT and psychotherapy have positive effects on the patient with chronic pelycalgia and hemiparesis.

  • Fire needling is an acupuncture procedure involving the swift pricking of diseased part with a red hot needle. The purpose of the present study is to report the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and fire needling combined therapy on the frozen shoulder patients. Each of patient received combined therapy of acupuncture and fire needling. Fire needling was carried out 2 or 3 times a week. Shoulder pain was evaluated by measuring visual analoge scale (VAS), range of movement (ROM), and global assessment and grade. All of the patinets treated with combined therapy exhibited decreasing of VAS and grade, increasing of ROM and global assessment.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the effects of sling exercise on muscle activity and pain in patients with rotator cuff repair. Methods: This research evaluated 20 rotator cuff repair patients, divided randomly between 10 controls and 10 in an experimental group who performed a sling exercise. Both the experimental and control groups underwent transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and performed continuous passive motion. Muscle activity was measured with a surface electromyograph and pain was measured with the visual analogue scale. The paired t-test was used to compare groups before and after the experiment. The independent t-test was conducted to assess differences in the degree of change between the two groups before and after the experiment. Results: Within-group comparison of both the experimental and control group showed significant differences in muscle activity and pain. Comparison of the groups revealed significant differences in muscle activity between groups group, but not in pain. Conclusion: These results indicate that sling exercise is effective for improving muscle activity of rotator cuff repair patients.
