Our recent work on virtual environments and virtual displays is reviewed, including our efforts to establish the Virtual Environment Research, Interactive Technology, And Simulation (VERITAS) facility and our research on spatial hearing. VERITAS is a state-of -the-art multisensory facility, built around the ${CAVE}^{TM}$ technology. High-quality 3D audio is included and haptic interfaces are planned. The facility will support technical and non-technical users working in a wide variety of application areas. Our own research emphasizes the importance of auditory stimulation in virtual environments and complex display systems. Experiments on auditory-aided visual target acquistion, sensory conflict, sound localization in noise, and loxalization of speech stimuli are discussed.

Improve the rural views of the Government and the municipalities with the intention of rural landscape planning. A mathematical model is proposed to analyze the force; acting on the hard contact lens fitted on the cornea. The model incorporates the nonlinear equations and their numerical solution program, based on the formulations of surface tension force arising from the capillary action in the tear-film layer between the lens and cornea. The model simulates how the adhesion between lens and cornea varies according to the base curves and diameters of the lenses. When the spherical lens is fitted on the spherical cornea it is to rotate downward due to the weight of lens itself until it reaches an equilibrium position along the cornea where the counter(upward) moment caused by net force between the upper and lower portion of the periphery of lens. It is found that both the adhesion and displacement of lens along the cornea, where the gravity of lens balances the capillary-induced upward force, increases rapidly as the base curve of lens increases, i.e., as the lens gets flatter, while the increase in the diameter of lenses has resulted in the less increase in the rotation and adhesion. With the base curve and diameters of lenses being remained constant the increase in surface tension of tear film yields the increase in the adhesion between the cornea and lens while the initial rotation of lens is inversely proportional to the surface tension of the tear film.

Objective : Vertebral distraction is routinely performed during anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Overdistraction can injure the facet joints and may cause postoperative neck pain consequently. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical relevance of distraction force during ACDF. Methods : This study included 24 consecutive patients with single level cervical disc disease undergoing single level ACDF. We measure the maximum torque just before the the arm of the Caspar retractor was suspended by the rachet mechanism by turning the lever on the movable arm using a torque meter. In order to turn the lever using the torque driver, we made a linear groove on the top of the lever. We compared the neck disability index (NDI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores between the high torque group (distraction force>6 $kgf{\cdot}cm$) and the low torque group (distraction force${\leq}6kgf{\cdot}cm$) at routine postoperative intervals of 1, 3, 5 days and 1, 3, 6 months. Results : The VAS scores for posterior neck pain had a linear correlation with torque at postoperative 1st and 3rd days ($y=0.99{\times}-1.1$, $r^2=0.82$; $y=0.77{\times}-0.63$, $r^2=0.73$, respectively). VAS scores for posterior neck pain were lower in the low torque group than in the high torque group on both 1 and 3 days postoperatively ($3.1{\pm}1.3$, $2.6{\pm}1.0$ compared with $6.0{\pm}0.6$, $4.9{\pm}0.8$, p<0.01). However, the difference in NDI scores was not statistically significant in all postoperative periods. Conclusion : Vertebral distraction may cause posterior neck pain in the immediate postoperative days. We recommend not to distract the intervertebral disc space excessively with a force of more than 6.0 $kgf{\cdot}cm$.

The purpose of this study was to find the effective way of composition in terms of UX(user experience) when configuring UI(user interface) of educational game by utilizing ET(eye-tracking). Experimental material was a game related to the middle school 'force and motion'. SMI (SensoMotoric Instruments)' iView X TM RED was used in order to collect eye movement data. The results of this study was as follows. First, the lead element for fast visual attention should be placed in the center when the educational game UI is configured. Second, burton that changes character's features and the information about them should be placed close to each other. Third, learning quiz caught visual attention faster when it was placed on the left side of UI. Fourth, when one UI was overlapped by another, parts that were not overlapped was fixated, too.

The Purpose of the study is to identify the aesthetic of anxiety and horror in Roman Polanski's films, focusing on , , and . Polanski's films, of which main concern lies in veritable human under the circumstance of the closed space which is stained violence and horror, present a tendency of instability and brute force in the same age and individual's enervation and solitude isolated from the value of society. Eventually, it steadily deals with the origin horror of being. In this study, I analyzed Polanski's special feature of directing centering on three facters, such as visual storytelling, space design of isolation and enervation, and accompanying sight as a visual point of suspense. The style of Polanski's films, based on the classical priciple for suspense construction and variegated image making, shows that the incapable individual's awkward suffered in the closed circumstance, the strength of horror from the unknowable outside, and human's belief broken by brutal violence. These commonly connect to the theme of Roman Polanski's films.

This study was conducted to assess meat quality and sensory properties of pork bellies from immunocastrated males (IC) compared to meat from surgically castrated males (SC), intact males (IM), and females (FE). Pork bellies from IC had significantly higher pH values than meat from either SC or FE. Pork bellies from IC showed lower CIE $L^*$ values than those from SC, but were redder (higher CIE $a^*$ values) than meat from SC or FE. However, no differences in visual color were observed between pork bellies from IC and SC pigs using National Pork Producer Council scales. Water holding capacity was higher in SC and FE than that in IC. IC showed no significant difference in cooking loss and shear force values compared with those of SC. Both SC and IC had improved fat content when compared to that in IM, and IC meat showed a similar fat content to that of FE. Pork bellies from IC showed higher ratings for all visual evaluation traits than those of SC and were the same as meat from FE. Boar odor was not significantly different among the treatments. IC was rated similar to SC for taste, tenderness, and overall acceptability.

Performance art is an integrated genre of different art areas, and make-up is a visual art area to give lively effects to the performance art, which makes actors and actresses changed into the characters of plays. It can be said to be a kind of deliverer of idea to help effectively understand the contents of the performance. When we are in the world abundant in various cultures and innumerable styles of expression of different countries, we should rediscover the value of the beauty of our traditional masks that have represented the emotion and thought of Han nation, which we can find in play culture of our ancestors that has kept our ancestors' value system. That's the way we can get continuous life force and competitive power of our traditional culture. The Korean traditional masks haven't only been for the prevention of bad luck and the prayer of fortune, but also well expressed Korean people's looks, features and personalities according to the roles. They are excellent artistic works in themselves, and many studies have been performed on the analyses and uses of the features of the masks in various fields due to their good expression of different cultural aspects, while the studies in the light of make-up are rarely performed. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the features of the Korean traditional masks and, by using this analysis, to present effective make-up designs in outdoor performances through a stage performance. In addition, this article also tries to present the orientation of make-up as an expression of artistic image, and to expand the expression area of make-up by using the Korean traditional masks in the light of make-up. For this purpose, I examined the related literature and the precedent study materials to find the origin and kinds of the Korean traditional masks, and analyzed the features of the masks. Furthermore, I established the make-up design plan using the material features of the Korean traditional masks by analyzing the characters in actual performance works, and presented the photos of works actually performed.

Various kinds of aerosols such as a mixture of hairspray resin and its solvents, a perfume, a soap water, and ask in-lotion were sprayed onto the contact lens which was mounted on the eye-model made of wood, varying the parameters as the distance between nozzle and contact lens and the spraying time duration. In the case of both the hairspray and the perfume including an ethanol as solvents, the shape of contact lenses has changed tremendously Jess than 1 minute after the exposure to the aerosol particles and then it continued until the lens surfaces were completely flipped over. Driving force for the lens distortion seems to be the expansion coefficient difference between the inner and outer surface of lens, which was caused by the heat of vaporization of ethanol included in the aerosol and subsequent temperature decrease induced on the lens surface.

A numerical analysis was performed for a separation process of carbon dioxide from a flue gas stream using polyethersulfone hollow fiber membranes. Countercurrent flow governing equations were regarded to be two point boundary-value problem and the nonlinear ordinary differential equation were simultaneously solved using the finite- difference method. A computer program was developed using the Compaq Visual Fortran 6.6 software. The carbon dioxide permeate driving force and the fred gas residence time at the inside of membrane were found to be very important factors affecting the permeation characteristics of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide concentration in the permeate and the flow rate of the permeate were found to be slightly larger by a few percent with a countercurrent flow analysis than those with a cocurrent flow analysis.
