Convergence Class for Basic Video Grammar and Communication Ability - Through Interview Video Production - (기초 영상 문법과 소통 능력 향상 융합 수업 -인터뷰 영상 제작을 통해-)

  • Today, art education needs education of media image production or media in the extended field. The purpose of this study is to develop the basic visual grammar and communication ability. We developed and applied the teaching plan for the interview video production as the fusion lesson. 3 classes were conducted for 30 middle school students. The results obtained through the analysis of the pre & post questions and student works are as follows. First, the students used the shot size and stable composition through the interview video production. As a result, this class was effective for the acquisition of the basic video grammar. Second, students improved their ability to ask and listen, understand and organize through interview. As a result, students were able to apply the basic video grammar through the interview video production lesson, effectively producing the interview image.

Development of STEAM Instructional Materials using Arduino for Creative Engineering Design Class in High Schools and Its Application (일반계고의 창의공학설계 수업을 위한 아두이노 기반 STEAM 수업자료 개발과 적용)

  • The purpose of the study was to develop the Arduino based STEAM instruction materials for creative engineering design class. PDIE model was used in this study. We developed a STEAM lesson plan and a STEAM lesson worksheet for a total of six sessions through the steps of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation. The validity of the instruction materials was evaluated by the 10 experts using a survey. The instruction materials were applied to the class (52 students attended) of the creative engineering designs unit in technology and home economics subject. The class satisfaction and the creative solving-problem ability were examined after the calss. The class satafacition was high as the average of 10 item was 4.57 (out of 5). The paired t-test was conducted to compare the means of the creative solving-problem ability. It was observed that 'understanding and mastery of knowledge, thought, function and skills in a specific domain', 'divergent thinking', 'critical and logical thinking' and ' motivational factors' were significantly increased after the class. The instruction materials develped in this study were successfully designed to enhance the creative solving-problem ability by designing creative tasks and to intrique the interest by adding visual and auditory stimuli with the Arduino.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze and derive pedagogical implications from elementary mathematics textbooks that align with the revised 2015 curriculum. Specifically, the focus was on the chapters related to simplifying fractions, finding a common denominator, and performing addition and subtraction of Fractions with Different Denominators. The analysis revealed that the overall structure of these chapters was similar across the textbooks, but variations existed in terms of the main activities and the textbook organization. Furthermore, different textbooks employed various types and quantities of visual representations. When designing lesson directions and content, it is crucial to consider the strengths and weaknesses of each visual representation.

Students' Perceptions on Chemistry I Class Using YouTube Video Clips (유튜브 동영상을 활용한 화학 I 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식)

  • Using interesting video clips corresponding to lesson subjects for students who favour visual representation is one of the good methods to enhance students' preference for science class. There are many moving picture web sites to get video clips easily via internet and 'YouTube' is very popular and one of the largest reservoir. In this study, every student in the 'Chemistry I' class, which is a class for 11th grade, was requested to search a video clip corresponding to lesson subjects and to make a presentation in the class. After 1st semester, students' response about the class using YouTube was examined by survey. As a result, students preferred and were interested in the class using YouTube than class centered on textbook. And students preferred YouTube clips showing unusual experiments that were related with contents of subject. In addition, experiments and watching their real phenomena were an interesting factor and helpful factor of learning chemistry in YouTube video clips, respectively. However, translation of English used in the video clips seemed to be a difficult part for students.

  • This study is to design and implement the synthetic courseware that covers repeating learning, individual teaching, and effective teaching-learning games by using multimedia authoring tool KAS for numerical data of computer science which is especially a little boring and difficult to understand through blackboard-based lesson for senior high school students. It also overcomes the drawbacks of the existing CAI focused on text and image by combining various kinds of media like image, animation and sound effects. Animation of numerical data in the fields of radix conversion makes it possible for learners to check the individual learning process and visual interest. So it comes to increase the effectiveness of learning. Whenever each chapter is finished. learners' understanding can be evaluated by formative test. Applicability test of the developed CAI in Eumsung Senior High School. is statistically evaluated as more effective than that of the blackboard-based lesson.

Development of an Educational Web Site and e-Learning System for Elementary School Students to Reduce Sugar, Natrium and Fat Intakes (초등학생의 당, 나트륨, 지방 섭취 저감화를 위한 교육용 웹사이트 및 e-learning system 개발)

  • This study was carried out to reduce children's sugar, natrium and fat intakes and establish their healthy lifestyle. To achieve these goals, we developed an educational web site and an e-learning system. The targets of this web site are children, parents and educators. This site has various information about sugar, natrium and fat, and has special menus for each target: such as the 'Let's study' for children, 'Guides for child's eating' for parents, and 'Educational softwares, Lesson plans/materials, and Textbooks/Teaching guides' for educators. We developed three nutrient characters and applied them to the web site. We provided information in the form of texts, images, flash and sounds. This site has special boards in 'Nutrition cafe' menu to interchange information or their successful stories between the connecters. We developed an e-learning system with two courses. One is for junior elementary students and the other is for senior students. Children can study each nutrient step by step in a course according to their academic ability and concern. Also, they can evaluate their academic achievement in this system, which was uploaded into 'Let's study' in children menu in the web site. Conclusively this web site and e-learning system could contribute to reducing children's sugar, natrium and fat intakes by helping children study them systematically and effectively by on-line system. We expect this e-learning system would be a new nutrition education system to make nutrition education more active.

A Study on Instructional Methods for Illustration Using Digital Media (디지털 매체를 활용한 일러스트레이션 교육 방안에 관한 연구)

  • The present study aimed to find out the most effective instructional method for illustration to aid the $21^{st}$-century post digital generation learners in their education. Although the literature discusses government-led enactment and revision of educational policy and curriculums and research reports by the Ministry of Education and other government agencies as well as many other research articles deal with futuristic instructional methods, the instructional methods in practice have not fully changed yet. Illustration is a means of visual communication and a subject that best represent 'expressionism' and 'speed' of the post digital generation. The present study exemplifies instructional methods to establish the need for lesson plans that best suit individuality of students and for re-training instructors. Also, the feedback process with students proved that the post digital generation learned Photoshop quickly and improved creativity via image synthesis even in short-term instructions. The present findings can be possibly used as reference data for instructional methods for illustration using digital media that best suits learners of the post digital generation. This being said, further studies should delve into specific instructional methods.

A Strategy for Productive Teachers' Questioning in Chemistry Class: Disassembly, Assembly and Interweave of Questions

  • Questioning forms an integral part of most strategies for effective teaching when the class consists of difficult content. Science including chemistry is usually content-rich, but difficult to understand without supporting lab experiments, subsidiary visual materials and model kits. Engaging the attention and interest of students in such a subject, therefore, is the key to the success of a daily lesson in the classroom. However, generating meaningful questions requires a certain level of information and metacognitive skills on the part of the teacher. The purpose of this study was to find out the framework of effective teachers' questioning with a large group in chemistry class: how teachers used questioning to engage their students in such a big class, to identify a variety of forms of feedback provided by students and to develop a model of question-inducing strategies. We investigated the teachers' recognition of their questioning and the students' recognition of teachers' questioning by surveying over 82 teachers and 434 students in Korea. The survey findings show that the questionnaire can be categorized into four elements: the theme of the teachers' questions (T), students' inquiries (I), methods of teachers' questioning (M) and encouragement of students (E). These elements can be analyzed and sub-categorized to find out which elements are effective in good questioning, even though the elements are interwoven tetrahedrally.

Development and Evaluation of Sustainable Housing Teaching-Learning Process Plan for Achieving the Global SDGs by Home Economics in Middle School (중학교 가정교과의 SDGs 교육을 위한 지속가능한 주생활 교수·학습 과정안 개발 및 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the sustainable housing teaching-learning process plan aimed to achieve the global SDGs through home economics class in middle school that is based on the ADDIE model. The overall objective of the plan was to contribute to cultivating students' sustainable housing values and to creating sustainable lifestyle through everyday practice. The plan consisting of 4 lessons contained various activity and visual resources(4 individual and 4 team activity sheets, 4 reading texts, 1 homework sheet and 1 evaluation sheet, and 7 videos) for students and (4 sets of ppt and 4 reading texts) for teachers. The theme and team activities of each lesson were related to 2~7 targets of 2~3 SDGs, in total 11 targets of 5 SDGs. The plan was implemented to 4 classes of 127 senior students at Y middle school in Cheongju city during the period from the 29th of August to the 18th of September, 2019. The results showed that students were very positive and highly satisfied with not only practical contents but also adequacy of resources and activities of the whole 4-lessons, so that they actively participated in the lessons more than usual and looked forward to learning more about it. They thoroughly enjoyed various team activities such as brain writing, mandal art, visual thinking, making UCC, and planning the sustainable village as well as writing a short reflective journal at the end of each lesson. Students also reported that they highly accomplished the goal of each lesson and the overall objective. It could be concluded that the teaching-learning process plan of 4-lessons could contribute to cultivating students' sustainable housing values and to creating sustainable lifestyle through practicing everyday life. It indicates that home economics is one of the major subjects to contribute to the attainment of global issue of SDGs for OECD education 2030 and to educate the practically acting global citizen.

Effect of Infographic Instruction to Promote Elementary Students' Use of Scientific Model (초등학생들의 과학적 모델 사용 활성화를 위한 인포그래픽 수업의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of infographic instruction to promote the use of the scientific model in the 'lens' unit of elementary science textbooks. The participants were $6^{th}$ grade students(n=53) of G elementary school in G city, Gyeongsangnam-do. For this study, the lesson plan of the 'lens' unit consisted of three steps as investigation of students' prior concept about the lens, scientific model construction activity, and infographic construction activity. We then analyzed the results of this study from three perspectives: the scientific concept, scientific model, and infographic. Before the lesson, students focused on the external shape and material of the lens in prior concept of it. However, after the scientific model construction activity and infographic construction activity, students' scientific concept about the lens improved in the categories of features of lens, features of glasses, light path, and applications of the lens. In terms of the scientific model, use of type and frequency of scientific model increased more in the infographic construction activity than the scientific construction model activity. Also, in terms of infographic, the two infographic types as function based infographic and connection based infographic used more than non-infographic in the infographic construction activity. Also, the frequency of Gestal theory's visual perception increased more in the infographic construction activity than the scientific model construction activity.
