A Study on the Deduction of 3-Dimmensional Visual Structure and measurement of Quantitative Openness in Accordance with Spatial Probe Routes (공간탐색경로에 따른 3차원 시각구조 도출과 정량적 개방도 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Human can recognize the environment by detecting spatial perception, and most of environmental perception depends on visual perception. In view that the acquisition of spatial information is accomplished through visual recognition, analysis of visual structure contained in the space is thought to be very important sector in studying the characteristic of the space. The history of studies on visual structure of space, however, wasn't too long, and furthermore most of the theories up to now focused on static and planar principles. Under this circumstance, this study is intended to suggest new theory by combining Isovist theory and VGA theory that have been actively discussed as the theory on visual perception-based spatial structure and supplementing them between each other to expand into 3-dimensional model. The suggested theory is a complex principle in dimensional and dynamic form in consideration of visual direction, which forms 3-dimentional virtual model that enables visualization of the property of spatial structure as the routine discriminating whether visual connection is made between viewing point and target point, and the target point is included in the visual field quadrangular pyramid or not. Such model was built up by an analysis application where four probe paths were applied to simulate the visual structure that occurs in virtual space, and then the characteristics were analyzed through quantification. In result, in spite of the path with equal space and equal length, significant difference in the acquired quantity of spatial information could be found depending on the probe sequence. On the contrary, it was found that probe direction may not affect the acquired quantity of information and visual property of the space.

  • This paper has proposed presumable method of ergonomics estimate index from evoked potential of visual stimulation for establishment a fixed ergonomics estimate index. The proposed method presumes continuance time and amplitude of ergonomics using prony method. Band characteristic of alpha and beta band, and that of background and evoked potential was analyzed using FFT method. And, that were presumed continuance time and amplitude of ergonomics using porny method. As a result of that proposed method presumed band characteristic, continuance time and amplitude of ergonomics, classification of ergonomics of impatient, rage and fear were practicable.

A Study on the Formative Characteristic and the Components of Visual Evaluation of the Bolero (볼레로의 조형적 특성과 시각적 평가의 구성요인)

  • The purposes of this study are to look into the formative characteristics of the bolero and to evaluate the visual effects and images according to changes in the line and length of the connecting lines of the neck, center front, and hem lines from analyzing the bolero style shown in 2005 S/S domestic fashion. Theoretical examination of the bolero was made philologically with reference books, theses and some articles. And the bolero style shown in 2005 S/S domestic fashion was analyzed with pictures from a fashion magazine "Ceci" and a fashion website 'Interfashion Planning" from Feb. to Aug. of 2005. As a result, the basic lines of the bolero are classified into three different categories according to the connecting lines of the neck, center front line, and hem line. We altered the length of the bolero in three categories with the changes in the waistline-5 cm, 8 cm, and 11 cm. For the visual evaluation, 9 stimuli were placed in mannequins, and were estimated by the experts in the fashion design. For the visual evaluation according to changes in the line and length of the bolero, we used 12 pairs of items to find the visual effects, and 13 pairs of adjectives to measure the visual images. The stimuli and adjectives were randomly given to the evaluators and were evaluated by the 7-Point Likert Type Scale. Data we got from this experiment was analyzed statistically by using the SPSS 12.0 and practiced the Factor Analysis and Correlation Analysis. In the current women's garments, the bolero is a new fashion item which combines with jackets or cardigans. Usually the bolero jacket is made out of a cotton, denim, leather or fur, and the bolero cardigan usually used knitted materials. The design could be very varied depending on the roundness of the center front line, and hem line. According to the result of factor analysis of the visual effects of the Bolero, four factors were identified the whole silhouette, neck line, breasts and shoulders. According to the result of factor analysis of the visual image of the Bolero, three factors were identified maturity, tenderness, neatness.

The Analysis of High School Students' Conceptions on Plate Tectonics (고등학생들의 판 구조론에 대한 개념 분석)

  • This study aimed to investigate high school students' conceptions of plate tectonics. Seventy students (N=70) in their 2 year of high schools in the province of Chungcheong-do participated in this study, and they took a conception test of visual representation. We conducted a semi-structured interview with 10 volunteering participants out of seventy. After learning about the concept of plate tectonics, this study found that participants ended up having alternative conceptions relating to terminology, meaning of colors, plates' movement, plates' boundaries, position and cause of melting, mantle's physical conditions, and driving forces of plate motion. The conceptions that the participants held after class were organically related, which included the meaning of colors, mantle's physical characteristic, and driving forces of plate movement. In addition, the visual representation used for teaching plate tectonics influenced the students' understanding about terminologies, plates' boundaries, position of melting, and the physical characteristic of mantle. The study found that there were the factors of visual representation that caused the learners to create alternative conceptions in learning about plate tectonics.

A Study on the Formative Characteristic and Visual Image of the Power Shouldered Jacket (파워 숄더 재킷의 조형적 특성과 시각적 이미지)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the formative characteristics of power-shoulder jacket shown in 08/09 F/W and 09/10 F/W London, Paris, Milan, New York collection and extract main expression words for development of semantic differential scales of visual image according to the change in shoulder angle and width of power-shoulder jacket. The result of this study is as follows. Power-shoulder jacket which were worn by 1980 business women have similar cutting with men's suit jacket, but have characteristics of exaggerating the body figure as exaggerated shoulder with pad and tight waist like an inverted triangle silhouette. Power-shoulder jackets shown in collections used glossy and glittering material and dark colors and formed slim silhouette with matches of shoulder line of temperate senses and casual wear. Like this, the power-shoulder jacket was expanded to daily casual wear from traditional formal wear. Main expression words of visual image of jackets according to the changes in angle and width of shoulder differ greatly depending on the expansion degree of angle and width of shoulder. Changes in shoulder angle may look tense, stiff and too much according to the amount of changes. However, it also has the image of sharp but dignified and charismatic. Also, it helps to show body figure more efficiently like being slim and looking taller. Related to the current trend emphasizing shoulder among women, it is evaluated to be stylish and trendy. When the expansion degree is not too much, changes in shoulder width partly show slim and slender waist under the influence of wider shoulder with basic tailored jacket image. However, when the expansion degree is enlarged, image related to the body figure is more definite compared to other visual images.

  • In creative design, it is necessary to understand the characteristic of architectural design. In the world of design problem, a distinction can be made between those that are well-defined and those that are ill-defined. Well-defined problems are those for which the ends or goal, are already prescribed and apparent, their solution requires the provision of appropriate means. For ill-defined problems, on the other hand, both the ends and the means of solution are unknown at the outset of the problem solving exercise, at least in their entirety. Most of design problems is ill-defined, which is unknown at the beginning of the problem solving exercise. In order to solve the design problem, Designers take advantage of the search methods of problem space, such as global-search-methods(depth-first-methods, breath-first-methods), local-search-methods(generate and test, heuristics, hill-climbing, reasoning) and visual thinking, which is represented through sketching. Sketching is a real part of design reasoning and it does so through a special kind of visual imagery. Also in the design problem solving it have been an important means of problem exploration and solution generation. By sketching, they represent images held in the mind as well as makes graphic images which help generate mental images of entity that is being designed. The search methods of problem space and a visual thinking have been crucially considered in the architectural design. The purpose of this paper is to explore the property of design by means of the pre-existed-experiment data and literature research. The findings will help design the architectural design for more creative results.

The Relationship between Youtube Music Video Views and Visual Characteristic: Focused on K-pop Music Video (유튜브 뮤직 비디오의 조회수와 시각적 연출 특성의 관계에 대한 연구 : 케이팝 뮤직 비디오를 중심으로)

  • This paper researches the relationship between Youtube K-pop music video views and visual characteristics. K-pop music video, which is the subject of study has intrigued the world since 'Gangnam Style' became Youtube's most viewed video in 2012. This paper questions the existence of element that are related to music video views which is not externally visible and the availability of the discovering the specific element. Previous studies had difficulty in searching the inherent elements of the music video associated with views because they chose a research method that compares music videos based on one or two pieces of work and had a biased result. Therefore, this paper goals to divide nine music videos according to the number of views in three groups and analyze their visual characteristics to find out the differences between the groups and their each features. This paper will contribute to the development of music video field in Youtube market where the number of views is getting more important recently.

Adaptive Enhancement of Low-light Video Images Algorithm Based on Visual Perception (시각 감지 기반의 저조도 영상 이미지 적응 보상 증진 알고리즘)

  • Aiming at the problem of low contrast and difficult to recognize video images in low-light environment, we propose an adaptive contrast compensation enhancement algorithm based on human visual perception. First of all, the video image characteristic factors in low-light environment are extracted: AL (average luminance), ABWF (average bandwidth factor), and the mathematical model of human visual CRC(contrast resolution compensation) is established according to the difference of the original image's grayscale/chromaticity level, and the proportion of the three primary colors of the true color is compensated by the integral, respectively. Then, when the degree of compensation is lower than the bright vision precisely distinguishable difference, the compensation threshold is set to linearly compensate the bright vision to the full bandwidth. Finally, the automatic optimization model of the compensation ratio coefficient is established by combining the subjective image quality evaluation and the image characteristic factor. The experimental test results show that the video image adaptive enhancement algorithm has good enhancement effect, good real-time performance, can effectively mine the dark vision information, and can be widely used in different scenes.

  • Understanding driver's characteristic of visual activity is important process because driver depends on a visual signal more than 90% for getting outside information needed to drive, thus a series of driving, including perception, judgement, and activity, is completed. This study analyzes quantified driver's sight range in curved section where recognition of various information is critical due to biggest speed change among sections. Simulation is utilized for this study because of safety problem on field experiment and difficulties in using equipment. Building 6 roads that have different in curve radius by virtual driving map, experiment is carried out recruiting 30 people. Through analytical researches, it shows that drivers keep an eye on direction of driving, and driver's visual range is narrowed on left curve than right curve, and the more curve radius become small, the more drivers see in narrow angle.

The Effectiveness of the Hemi-sphere Projection Method in the Analysis of Streetscape (가로경관 분석에서의 반구투영법의 효용성 검토)

  • The Hemi-sphere projection method produces an image that includes all surrounding visual landscape from a view point. This characteristic can solve the problem of perspective method that has only a limited view angle, and thus can be a potentially effective method for the analysis of visual landscape. This study tried to adopt the hemi-sphere projection method in the evaluation of streetscape, and examined its effectiveness and possibilities. Computer animations using the perspective method and the hemi-sphere method were produced for Bang-Hak Ro, Seoul, and the kames of the animations were reclassed to identify the visibility ratio of physical elements(buildings, sky and mountains). A preference questionnaire was given to 51 university students, and the relationships between the visibility ratio and visual preference were analyzed. The results showed that visual preference of streetscape can be explained by three factors: Openness, Uniformity, and Variousness, accounting for 63.2% of the total variance, and among which Openness showed the highest proportion at 32.1%. The visibility ratio calculated by the hemi-sphere method yielded strong correlation coefficients with Openness, and it was much higher than with the perspective method. The hemi-sphere method also produced significant correlation coefficients about Uniformity and Variousness, but the perspective method could not. The results demonstrated that the hemi-sphere method can provide more accurate observation of visual changes, and that it can be an effective method for the analysis of streetscape.
