  • Recently climate change and increase of surface runoff caused the urban flooding. Traditional way of dealing with urban flooding has been to increase the sewer capacity or construction of pumping stations, however, it is practically almost impossible because of time, money and traffic problems. Multipurpose DRMS (Decentralized Rainwater Management System) is a new paradigm proposed and recommended by NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency) for both flood control and water conservation. Suwon City has already enacted the ordinance on sound water cycle management by DRMS. In this study, a flood prone area in Suwon is selected and analysis of DRMS has been made using XP-SWMM for different scenarios of RT installation with same total rainwater tank volume and location. Installing one rainwater tank of 3,000$m^3$ can reduce the peak flow rate by 15.5%. Installing six rainwater tanks of 500$m^3$ volume in the area can reduce the peak flow rate by 28%. Three tanks which is concentrated in the middle region can reduce peak rate more than evenly distributed tanks. The method and results found from this study can be used for the design and performance prediction of DRMS at a flood prone area by supplementing the existing sewer system without increase of the sewer capacity.

  • This study is aimed at understanding the wisdom of our ancestors in Korean traditional villages and finding out cues to designate and utilize community space in planning residential area in villages by examining community space in Korean traditional villages from cultural landscape point of view. This study designated 18 Korean traditional villages which have been preserving Korean traditional culture up to now, so deserve conservation from historical, cultural and artistic viewpoint. This study divided community spaces in each village into social area and ritual area depending on their uses and functions based on the results of pilot study and main study. In addition, ritual areas were also divided into Confucian ritual area and ethnic ritual area. Specifically, this study examined characteristics of space location and users by understanding the location of community space factors in the 18 villages. As for the factor analysis of community spaces, community factors established after the modern age were examined from modern viewpoint, and factors which had been destroyed or lost their original functions were examined from retrospective viewpoint. In conclusion, this study found out that cultural landscape in Korean traditional villages were affected by social relationship among villagers. The community spaces of villagers were multiple-function space rather than a space which was exclusively used by a specific class. Though the occupation of these spaces was separated and differentiated depending on sexes and ages, villagers tried to understand and respect each other through tacit communication.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status, including the maintenance problems and removal efficiency, of small sewage treatment facilities in Chung-nam province(Asan, Buyeo, and Gongju city). Our results showed that inflow water quality of Asan city was 19.1 mg/L of BOD, 29.0 mg/L of COD, 13.4 mg/L of T-N and 1.5 mg/L of T-P, respectively, which was much higher than any other site. Among the factors known to be an important index of water quality, the SS and BOD removal efficiency was about 70% and 50% respectively. However, the nitrogen removal efficiency was less than 10%. The total removal efficiency of pollutant was 71.1% of SS, 52.6% of BOD, 46.2% of COD, 9.2% of T-P and 4.6% of T-N respectively. Therefore nitrogen removal processes are required to prevent serious eutrophication of small river. Removal efficiency for BOD and SS of high-efficient sewage treatment facilities (STFs) and contact oxidation process was much higher than another process. Performance of these sewage treatment facilities(STFs) is not optimal due to ineffective planning for the inflow water quality. To improve these facilities, it is proposed that a technical expert analysis of water quality at these facilities is periodically required.

  • Gaesung city of North Korea is meaningful because of the development of Gaesung industrial complex as a peace-building project and economical cooperation works between South Korea and North Korea. This article presents the characteristics of natural landscape of Gaesung through geographical names. This research was studied by literature analysis of North Korea, depth interview of North Korean labour and refugees, and second times fieldwork. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the mountain landscape of Geasung revealed on geographical names characterized mountainousness and round shape. Especially, the places where are enclosed by mountain and streams are foggy and rocky. Next the landscape of stream characterizes sandy, unstable, and tidal river. Thirdly the fauna and flora which are reflected on geographical names are hawk, snake, tiger, homed owl, snapping turtle, chestnut tree, pine tree, pear tree, zelkova tree, and willow etcetera. The environmental conditions of habitation of these are similar to the natural environment of Gaesung. Besides, the geographical names related to soil distributed in northern mountain area of Geasung. The place names implicated cliff located on the riverside. In addition to this, the geographical name of 'Bul' implicated plain distributed in the riverside of 'Seoam' which a branch stream of 'Sacheo'. And the place names related rock located in place enclosed by mountain, river, and village. In cnclusion, Gaesung is more important to us as the Gaesung industrial complex and tourism development. But the fundamental research on Gaesung is a few because Gaesung belongs to North Korea. Therefore, this research will be useful for the control and management of Gaesung in the future.

  • As globalization, international cooperation has grown in importance. In accordance with this trend, Korea has been receiving high demands from international organizations about expanding the scale of Official Development Assistance(ODA) in line with its improved national status. In addition, in the economic aspect of Korea, the ODA project is expected to provide new growth opportunities in the mid- to long-term by promoting cooperation with developing countries. Uganda is an area with high strategic value due to good agricultural conditions and favorable geographical conditions. The poultry industry is a business that is generally carried out to the Ugandan, but due to economic problems such as initial investment cost, most of them have raised poultry on a small scale which is not enough for main income. This paper proposes the construction and operation plan of adapting to small poultry farms in the village-intensive type to sustainable income for residents in Uganda through ODA project in Korea's agricultural technology. The economic feasibility was analyzed from the long-term perspective when the initial construction cost was supported or not and the poultry species ratio was adjusted in terms of initial and operating costs. Economic analysis was performed using Net Present Value(NPV) method. As of after 10 years, when operating in the form of shifting kuroiler to layers, it was estimated to earn about 700,000 ugx more than when only kuroiler is raised, and it is able to reduce about 14 million ugx from the initial cost than when only raising layers. As of 20 years, the most profitables scenario was the breeding of 100 kuroilers and 400 layers methods. however, this case was anlayzed to be unsuitable for Uganda farmers, with initial costs more than three times higher than the shifting method of the kuroiler to layers. If the initial construction cost is supported by ODA project, the initial investment cost can be recovered in the first year with the shifting method, whereas raising only layers take two years to recoup the cost. In the meantime, when studying livestock industry in Uganda, it was examined by relying on statistical data, but this paper is meaningful in that it predicted how much it is economically effective based on field experience.

  • Hanok (a traditional Korean-style house) has recently become a popular attraction for tourists all over the world. Jeonju Hanok Village, for example, attracted about 10 million visitors for 2 consecutive years. Observing Hanok's popularity, many local governments drew up plans to improve tourism dynamics by strengthening the advantages of Hanok. Emotionally rich experience is required to offer a greater satisfying experience that meets the demands of tourists. However, very few studies yet have addressed how to measure those emotions felt by users while experiencing Hanok. As an attempt to improve this situation, 182 emotional words were collected from earlier studies and classified into 33 groups with the Delphi method. Among the emotional words in each of the 33 groups, those of overlapping concepts on the characteristics of Hanok were re-grouped, and extracted the most appropriate 68 words. Additionally, a survey was conducted with 325 people who had experienced Hanok to gather 30-most representative emotions for measuring emotions felt from Hanok. The factor analysis of the 30 representative emotions resulted in classified 6 factors based on common features of emotional words: senses of aesthetics, happiness, novelty, ownership, balance and relaxation. The 30 representative emotions and six emotion categories found out by this study can help measure how much people feel certain emotions while experiencing hanoks. Further study will explore the degree of emotions hanok users feel about objects of hanok, such as roof materials and shapes, and body shapes.

  • In this paper, I tried to study the change of the Chinese performing arts market during the 10th 5year development plan, from year 2001 to year 2005 by both of the quantitative and qualitative analysis, because it's really the time when we need to understand the growing market of chinese culture along with the development of the Chinese cultural industry. During that period, the Chinese government developed the policy to establish a healthy cultural market and strengthen it's cultural power; the parts who product the piece of performing arts including the performing troupes, the theatres and the production companies were consolidated and became familiar to market through the reformation of the organization; and the audience who consume the performing arts and entertainments still shows very Chinese characteristics in the cities and villages. In the village, the audiences invite the troupe to play their local theatre in many occasions of their life according to their traditional beliefs, also somehow to show their wealth. The fact that the local governments and the companies are very important consumer groups in China is also very 'Chinese' characteristics. It means that Chinese performing arts are still more or less under the influence of the political ideas. Nonetheless it is worthy of notice that Chinese performing arts not only develope the new contents in very creative way and also try to learn the knowhow of the excellent items of foreign countries by inviting them to the festivals or organize a co-productions on the basis of the upgraded cultural power through the 10th 5 year development plan.

  • Camilo $Jos{\acute{e}}$ Cela's hometown Galicia has frequently appeared as the spatial background in his early and later works, revealing various factors related to the area in detail. It is in "Mazurca para dos muertos" that Galicia's characteristic elements appear most strikingly among his works. Several distinctive elements of Galicia are revealed in this work. First, the author shows some of Galicia's features by placing his characters in a Galician rural village and giving them the opportunity to speak local dialects. Second, Galician characteristic nature is specifically embodied through the dozens of depictions of nonstop rain. Third, the author has made the link between his work and Galicia by mentioning names of many Galician cities, villages, rivers and local writers and their works. Fourth, various Galician characteristic features, such as numerous myths, legends, and superstitions surrounding around this region are mentioned through the work. As such, almost all the sub-themes and materials of this work center on things associated with Galicia. This analysis provides for the realization that Cela reveals his identity as a Galician-born writer through this work.

  • Objectives: This study examined the practices of a community meal program for older adults in rural areas during the agricultural off-season. Methods: A survey was conducted from December 12 to December 22, 2016. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 150 cooking volunteers, who had participated in the community meal program in 50 villages. A total of 114 responses were returned from 44 villages and used for data analysis. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with the volunteers of eight villages. Results: Most of the cooking volunteers were 50 years old or older and they participated in serving older adults meals for good will. The cooking volunteers perceived that the older adults in their community did not eat various foods, had difficulties in grocery shopping, and frequently consumed salty foods. During the agricultural off-season, 40.9% of villages served the older adults meals 6-7 days a week and 95.5% provided meals for lunch. An average of 21 to 40 older adults were served meals in each village. The cooking volunteers reported that the food preparation and meal service times were sufficient, recipes provided were useful, and menus met the preference of the older adults. At the end of the program, they felt proud of serving meals for older adults in the community. An increased awareness of healthy eating, interest in health, and consumption of nutritious meals, a decrease in loneliness among older adults, and the promotion of fellowship in the community were rated highly. The cooking volunteers expected additional support for cooking personnel and insisted that the program should be provided for the entire agricultural off-seasons. Conclusions: The community meal program during the agricultural off-season for the elderly in rural areas was effective in improving the dietary life of older adults, relieving their feelings of isolation, and promoting fellowship of the community. The volunteers felt workload due to a shortage of volunteers but answered that they were rewarded by helping older adults in their community.

  • It is very important to understand the factors affecting the occurrence of vacant houses in research on them. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors affecting the rural vacancy occurrence. This study set 121 research areas and selected eight independent variables (Aged house rate, housing transaction rate, house diffusion ratio, local extinction index, net migration rate, regional aging index, the ratio of the number of employees to population and financial independence rate) and one dependent variable (vacant house rate). As a result of the study, first, both Model 1 for the entire general agricultural fishing village area and Model 2 for the county (gun) area were statistically significant, there was no problem with the independence of residual. Second, local extinction index and aged house rate had a statistically significant positive (+) relationship in both Model 1 and Model 2. Third, diffusion ratio of house had a statistically significant positive (+) relationship only in Model 1, and housing transactions rate had a statistically significant negative (-) relationship in Model 2. The implications of the study were drawn as follows: First, the increase in the house diffusion ratio without growth in households and population suggests the increase of the probability of the vacancy occurrence in the area, and the higher the aged house rate, the higher the probability of the vacancy occurrence. Second, for the revitalization of housing transactions, it is necessary to have an investment inflow in the area for mid- to long-term development. Third, local extinction index has a significant relationship with vacant house rate, it is necessary to introduce a local revitalization policy from a long-term perspective for the permanence of the area.
