The present study addresses a direct patterning process on a plastic film using ultrasonic vibration energy. In this process, a tool horn containing micro-patterns is attached to an ultrasonic power supply, and is used with ultrasonic vibration to replicate micro-patterns on the surface of a plastic film. To improve the replication characteristics of the micro-patterns, the effect of the die shape of the ultrasonic patterning process was investigated with respect to the flow direction control. Finite element analyses were performed to predict the flow characteristics of the polymer with variations in die design parameters. Experiments were conducted using the optimally-designed die, from which it was possible to attain much improved pattern replication.

Three dimensional cutting is considered as an equivalent orthogonal cutting through the plane containing both the cutting velocity vector and the chip flow velocity vector in dynamic cutting process. An analytical expression of dynamic cutting force is obtained from the cutting parameters determined by the static cutting. Particular attention is paid to the energy supplied to the vibratory system of cutting tool with two degree of freedom. In this approach, the phase lag of the horizontal vibration of the tool behind the vertical vibration and the direction angle of the fluctuating cutting force is considered in point of stability limits. Chatter vibration can be effectively suppressed by relatively increasing the spring constant and the damping coefficient of the cutting system in the vertical cutting force direction. A good agreement is found between the stability limits predicted by theoretical value and experimental results.

For the analysis of radiating noise problems in medium-to-high frequency ranges, the Energy Flow Boundary Element Method (EFBEM) was developed. EFBEM is the analysis technique that applies the Boundary Element Method (BEM) to Energy Flow Analysis (EFA). The fundamental solutions representing spherical wave property for radiating noise problems in open field and considering the free surface effect in underwater are developed. Also the directivity factor is developed to express wave's directivity patterns in medium-to-high frequency ranges. Indirect EFBEM by using fundamental solutions and fictitious source was applied to open field and underwater noise problems successfully. Through numerical applications, the acoustic energy density distributions due to vibration of a simple plate model and a sphere model were compared with those of commercial code, and the comparison showed good agreement in the level and pattern of the energy density distributions.
Anisotropic distribution of the turbulent kinetic energy and the near-field excitations are the main causes of the steady state Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV) which could lead to fretting wear damage in vertically arranged supported slender rods. In this article, a combined Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Computational Structural Mechanic (CSM) approach named two-way Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is used to investigate the modal characteristics of a typical rod's vibration. Performance of an Unsteady Reynolds-Average Navier-Stokes (URANS) and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence models on asymmetric fluctuations of the flow field are investigated. Using the LES turbulence model, any large deformation damps into a weak oscillation which remains in the system. However, it is challenging to use LES in two-way FSI problems from fluid domain discretization point of view which is investigated in this article as the innovation. It is concluded that the near-wall meshes whiten the viscous sub-layer is of great importance to estimate the Root Mean Square (RMS) of FIV amplitude correctly as a significant fretting wear parameter otherwise it merely computes the frequency of FIV.

In this paper, Power Flow Analysis(PFA) method has been applied to the prediction of vibration energy density and intensity of coupled shell structures in the medium-to-high frequency ranges. To consider the wave transformation at joint between shell elements, power transmission and reflection coefficients are investigated for various joint angles, and here Donnell-Mushtari thin shell theory has been used. For validations computations are performed to analyze the response of coupled shells by changing the excitation frequency and damping loss factor.

In the built-up structure consisting of a stiff beam and a flexible plate, Grice showed that the plate behaves as an energy absorber in narrow frequency bands(called plate blocking effect). This paper deals with such beam-plate coupled structures, where the plate is an energy absorber and the excited beam is an energy path. It is found that such energy dissipation can occur in the relatively broad bands, if different stiffnesses are used in the rectangular plate. It was experimentally verified by Heckl that the energies in terms of one-third octave band averages transferred to the plate(or dissipated in the plate) increase for increased plate damping. This Paper, however, shows that the energy absorption suddenly reduces at the certain narrow frequency bands where the plate damping effect upon the coupled beam is maximum. Also, in order to minimize energy transfer through the beam in terms of one-third octave band averages, it is advantageous to increase the plate damping closer to the excitation point All these results are based on the wane method.
In order to build a quiet and comfortable ship, the noise levels on board ship must be predicted at early design stage. Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) developed by R. H. Lyon has been well known to be the most useful frame work to study the energy flow of noise and vibration in structure. This paper applied this theory to predict the transmission loss of structure-borne noise of model structure and has developed computer program. Components constructions model structure have been all considered as SEA elements. And we also estimated the SEA parameters from the model structure. Using SEA and a new conception of STL, we found the transimission character of structure-borne noise theoretically by the idealized ship model, and then compared the results with three cases.
The analysis system implementing a serial process from structural vibration to sound radiation has been developed using both the power flow finite element method (PFFEM) known as a new vibrational analysis technique in medium to high frequency ranges and the acoustic boundary element method (BEM) which is effective in analyzing the sound radiation problems. The vibration analysis for arbitrary shape structures composed of plates is performed, and using the vibration energy density obtained from this analysis as the velocity boundary conditions for an acoustic analysis, vibro-acoustic analysis has been processed. To verify the developed system, we select a simple structure model and compare the results of developed system with those of SYSNOISE, and also the developed system is applied for the vibro-acoustic analysis of various structures in shapes.

Hermetic rotary compressor is one of the most important components for air conditioning system since it has a great effect on both the performance and the noise and vibration of the system. Noise and vibration of rotary compressor is occurred due to gas pulsation during compression process and unbalanced dynamic force. In order to reduce noise and vibration, It is necessary to identify sources of noise and vibration and effectively control them. Many approaches have been tried to identify noise sources of compressor. However, compressor noise source identification has proven to be difficult since the characteristics of compressor noise are complicated due to the interaction of the compressor parts and gas pulsation. In this work, Statistical Energy Analysis has been used to trace the energy flow in the compressor and identify transmission paths from the noise source to the sound field.
In recent years, the piping vibration in many Power Plants is being increased by the aged generating facilities due to a long time use. Generally, the pressure fluctuations associated with the flow-induced excitations in this case are broadband in nature. Mainly, the dominant sources of vibration are a vortex-shedding, plane waves and boundary layer turbulence. The peak level of the spectrum is proportional to the dynamic head. A severe disturbance in pipeline results in the generation of intense broadband internal sound waves which can propagate through the piping system. The characteristic frequencies of operating loads of 20%, 57%, 70%, 100% are 4 - 6 Hz and coincide with the results from impact hammering test and FEM analysis. We chose the wire energy absorbing rope restraint as a vibration reduction method after reviewing the various conditions such as site, installing space and economic cost etc. After installation, the vibration level was reduced about 54% in velocity.
