  • This study presents a method for health monitoring of rotating objects for mobility based on multiple recursive least squares(RLS) algorithms. The performance degradation of the rotating objects causes low handing / low driving performances and even fatal accidents. Therefore, health monitoring algorithm of rotating objects is one of the important technologies for mobility fail-safe and maintenance areas. In order for health monitoring of rotating objects, four recursive least squares algorithms with forgetting factor were designed in this study. The health monitoring algorithm proposed in this study consists of two steps such as uncertainty estimation and parameter changes estimation. In order to improve estimation accuracy, time delay function was applied to the estimated signals based on the first order differential equation and forgetting factors used for the RLS were reasonably tuned. The health monitoring algorithm was constructed in Matlab/Simulink environment and simulation-based performance evaluation was conducted using DC motor model. The evaluation results showed that the proposed algorithm estimates the actual parameter differences reasonably using velocity and current information.

  • The advanced information and communication technology gives vehicles another role of the third digital space, merging a physical space with a virtual space in a ubiquitous society. In the ubiquitous environment, the vehicle becomes a sensor node, which has a computing and communication capability in the digital space of wired and wireless network. An intelligent vehicle information system with a remote control and diagnosis is one of the future vehicle systems that we can expect in the ubiquitous environment. However, for the intelligent vehicle system, many issues such as vehicle mobility, in-vehicle communication, service platform and network convergence should be resolved. In this paper, an in-vehicle gateway is presented for an intelligent vehicle information system to make an access to heterogeneous networks. It gives an access to the server systems on the internet via CDMA-based hierarchical module architecture. Some experiments was made to find out how long it takes to communicate between a vehicle's intelligent information system and an external server in the various environment. The results show that the average response time amounts to 776ms at fixec place, 707ms at rural area and 910ms at urban area.

  • Mobile computing environment is known to be quite difficult to provide user with a stable Quality of Service (QoS) due to vehicle mobility nature. In order to protect the inherent characteristics of wireless network such as low bandwidth and high transmission delay along with the vehicle's mobility, many works are conducted to apply caching and prefetching methods. This paper presents a novel prefetching technique which is based on owner's profile. It is the scheme with the vehicle velocity, the visit frequency and resident time of specific region for vehicle owner's past given period, and the user profile which has owner's personal inclination about a certain place. The proposed scheme shown relatively superior performance in terms of the utilization ratio of prefetched information and the failure ratio of information retrieval than the previous methods.

  • Since Korea joined the ranks of the developed countries, the interests in people with disabilities are rising. In particular, as disabled people become more active, to improve the transportation vulnerable's the right of movement have been required more strongly. Thus each municipality has been various efforts to do this. In this study we provide a understanding of each local government authority status which associated with operation of special transport systems, a call-taxi for transportation vulnerable and investigate the implementation status of mobility support system for traffic vulnerable which provided with automatic vehicle delivery. Also, with identification of automatic vehicle delivery problems the system, we design and implement a best-effort automatic vehicle delivery algorithm to improve these problems. Algorithm proposed in this study actually applied to commercial system of local governments to resolve the existing problems and to check to operate normally. The results are expected to provide to more exact and faster automatic vehicle delivery to transportation vulnerable and to improve the convenience of transportation vulnerable's movement.

  • Recently, the number of traffic accidents on trunk roads tends to decrease due to the performance improvement of passenger vehicles. In the commuter rush hour of morning and evening, vehicles via residential road increases without going along trunk roads. Therefore, there are many traffic accidents of pedestrians (or bicycles) and vehicles on residential roads. In order to safeguard residents against traffic accidents, traffic calming devices (TCD), such as chicane, speed hump, and school zone, etc. have been introduced. Investigating these effects repeatedly is not easy since many times and efforts are required, such as observed at the place actually. In this paper, the effects of TCDs in residential areas, such as noise, speed, and emission of a vehicle, using Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) are examined. As a result, it is found that it is possible to reduce the speed of the vehicle by TCD, and the level of noise at the location behind TCD becomes higher than the level of noise at the location of TCD implemented.

  • In this paper I examine Cesare Cattaneo and Mario Radice's Camerlata Fountain in northern Italy, focusing on the work's relation to the urban environment and its "mobility" over several decades. As I demonstrate, the design of Cattaneo and Radice's work relates to the circular layout of a traffic intersection and was intended to be viewed from the window of a moving automobile. In this way it continues a tradition, begun by the Futurists and continued by Le Corbusier, who saw the car as central to modern art and architecture. Moreover, the work relates to the concept of mobility in so far as it was in itially built in 1936 in Milan and subsequently destroyed and reconstructed during 1962 in its current location near Como. As the history of the work's conception, production and reception demonstrates, Cattaneo and Radice's work not only responds to the experience of vehicle-generated mobility in modern society but also reveals the tensions and anxieties associated with an increasingly dynamic urban environment.

  • Clustering is one of the key technologies in vehicular networks. Constructing and maintaining stable clusters is a challenging task in high mobility environments. DWCM (Distributed and Weighted Clustering based on Mobility Metrics) is proposed in this paper based on the d-hop dominating set of the network. Each vehicle is assigned a priority that describes the cluster relationship. The cluster structure is determined according to the d-hop dominating set, where the vehicles in the d-hop dominating set act as the cluster head nodes. In addition, cluster maintenance handles the cluster structure changes caused by node mobility. The rationality of the proposed algorithm is proven. Simulation results in the NS-2 and VanetMobiSim integrated environment demonstrate the performance advantages.

  • Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) are self-organizing, self-healing networks which provide wireless communication among vehicular and roadside devices. Applications in such networks can take advantage of the use of simultaneous connections, thereby maximizing the throughput and lowering latency. In order to take advantage of all radio interfaces of the vehicle and to provide good quality of service for vehicular applications, we developed a seamless flow mobility management architecture based on vehicular network application classes with network-based mobility management. Our goal is to minimize the time of flow connection exchange in order to comply with the minimum requirements of vehicular application classes, as well as to maximize their throughput. Network simulator (NS-3) simulations were performed to analyse the behaviour of our architecture by comparing it with other three scenarios. As a result of this work, we observed that the proposed architecture presented a low handover time, with lower packet loss and lower delay.

  • In case of high speed and high mobility multibody tracked vehicle, it is hard to develop the realtime simulation model for track tension control because of the hundreds of highly nonlinear equations. In order to design more trustworthy realtime simulator for track tension control, it is necessary to use off-line tracked vehicle model. In this study, a step by step procedure is presented to develop realtime simulation model based on off-line tracked vehicle model. Simulation results show that modified off-line multibody tracked vehicle model can be used for real time simulation to control the track tension.
