This paper outlines the Taguchi optimization methodology, which is applied to optimize cutting parameters in end milling when machining STS304 with TiAlN coated SKH59 tool under up and down end milling conditions. The end milling parameters evaluated are depth of cut, spindle speed and feed rate. An orthogonal array, signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and analysis of variance (ANOVA) are employed to analyze the effect of these end milling parameters. The Taguchi design is an efficient and effective experimental method in which a response variable can be optimized, given various control and noise factors, using fewer resources than a factorial design. An orthogonal array of $L_9(33)$ was used. The most important input parameter for cutting force, however, is the feed rate, and depending on the cutter rotation direction. Finally, confirmation tests verified that the Taguchi design was successful in optimizing end milling parameters for cutting force.
Despite popularity of FEM in analysis of static and dynamic structural problems and the routine applicability of FE softwares, analytical methods based on simple mathematical relations is still largely sought by many researchers and practicing engineers around the world. Development of such analytical methods for analysis of free vibration of non-prismatic beams is also of primary concern. In this paper a new and simple method is proposed for determination of vibration frequencies of non-prismatic beams under variable axial forces. The governing differential equation is first obtained and, according to a harmonic vibration, is converted into a single variable equation in terms of location. Through repetitive integrations, integral equation for the weak form of governing equation is derived. The integration constants are determined using the boundary conditions applied to the problem. The mode shape functions are approximated by a power series. Substitution of the power series into the integral equation transforms it into a system of linear algebraic equations. Natural frequencies are determined using a non-trivial solution for system of equations. Presented method is formulated for beams having various end conditions and is extended for determination of the buckling load of non-prismatic beams. The efficiency and convergence rate of the current approach are investigated through comparison of the numerical results obtained to those obtained using available finite element software.
The purpose of this study was to examine the respiratory system health condition of dental technicians and to be of use for more successful health management and health promotion for them. The subjects in this study were 155 dental technicians who were working in North Jeolla province. Out of them, 70 dental mechanics were investigated in 1993, and 85 were surveyed in 2001. And the reports of the two groups on respiratory distress, including cough, sputum, phlegm, the notable sound of breathing, nasal discharge, coryza, shortness of breath and gasping, were compared. The findings of this study were as below: 1. The cough report rate was 24.3% in 1993 and 16.5% in 2001. There appeared approximately 7.8% decrease between the two years. The most powerful variables included working hours and age. 2. The complaint rate of sputum and phlegm was 47.1% in 1993 and 43.5% in 2001. The rate of 2001 reduced by 3.6%. Whether or not they smoked was identified as the most influential variable. 3. The report rate of shortness of breath and gasping was 7.4% in 1993 and 12.9% in 2001, and this rate showed about 1.5% increase in the latter year. The biggest variables were working hours and career. 4. The complaint rate of nasal discharge and coryza was 41.4% in 1993 and 44.7% in 2001, which showed about 3.3% increase. The largest variables were smoking and career. 5. The report rate of the notable sound of breathing and breathing in light little gasps was 12.0% in 1993 and 17.6% in 2001. There was approximately 5.6% increase, and the most powerful variables were working hours and career.

The human voice is a convenient method of information transfer between different objects such as between men, men and machine, between machines. The development of information and communication technology, the voice has been able to transfer farther than before. The way to communicate, it is to convert the voice to another form, transmit it, and then reconvert it back to sound. In such a communication process, a vocoder is a method of converting and re-converting a voice and sound. The CELP (Code-Excited Linear Prediction) type vocoder, one of the voice codecs, is adapted as a standard codec since it provides high quality sound even though its transmission speed is relatively low. The EVRC (Enhanced Variable Rate CODEC) and QCELP (Qualcomm Code-Excited Linear Prediction), variable bit rate vocoders, are used for mobile phones in 3G environment. For the real-time implementation of a vocoder, the reduction of sound quality is a typical problem. To improve the sound quality, that is important to know the size and shape of noise. In the existing sound quality improvement method, the voice activated is detected or used, or statistical methods are used by the large mount of data. However, there is a disadvantage in that no noise can be detected, when there is a continuous signal or when a change in noise is large. This paper focused on finding a better way to decrease the reduction of sound quality in lower bit transmission environments. Based on simulation results, this study proposed a preprocessor application that estimates the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) using the spectral SNR estimation method. The SNR estimation method adopted the IMBE (Improved Multi-Band Excitation) instead of using the SNR, which is a continuous speech signal. Finally, this application improves the quality of the vocoder by enhancing sound quality adaptively.
Recently, a number of evaluation studies on availability of plant were carried out. This study was conducted to verify of the reliability of a simulation with some variable such as configuration of process, failure probability density function and the number of iteration times for the natural gas liquefaction plant. The error rate of the KICT-RAM solution was evaluated as 0.03~1.79% compared with the result of the MAROS(commercial solution). And the error-rate change was observed in the range of 0.03~1.75 on the condition of the iteration times as 30, 100, 250. As a result the plant availability evaluation approach of KICT-RAM solution was verified as reasonable. However, the careful approach was required to use the solution because the error-rate increased according to iteration times change.
It is very important to provide a parameterized quality of service (QoS) using traffic specification (TSPEC), such as mean data rate, maximum burst size, and peak data rate, when packets from the application layer need to be transmitted with guaranteed services in a high-rate wireless personal area network (HR-WPAN). As medium resources are limited, the optimal medium time required for each device needs to be estimated to share the resources efficiently among devices. This paper proposes a variable-service interval-based resource allocation algorithm to efficiently make a reservation of medium resources based on a parameterized QoS. In other words, the proposed algorithm calculates the number of medium access slots (MASs) based on TSPEC, local resources, and local conditions and determines suitable locations for the MASs within a superframe to accommodate more devices. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can accommodate more devices and has greater than 10% resource allocation efficiency in an HR-WPAN compared to existing schemes.
This is study on the glazing performance of the apartment house to predict energy saving rate when the early design stage by calculating heating load. there are various factors of the window type in apartment building to save energy such as window's U-value, SC or SHGC, window wall ration, frame factor, sunshade coefficient and so on. In this study, we analyzed the heating load focused on the U-value, SC and window wall ration using variable heating degree days method for a small and middle size units $59m^2$, $84m^2$, respectively. Each cases were calculated heating load of the real models compared to standard model to predict energy saving rate. From those cases it was drew the conclusion that were window's U-value, SC and window wall ration for the small and middle size units to expect 10% energy saving rate at least.

Soft magnetic powder materials are used throughout industries such as motors and power converters. When manufacturing Fe-based soft magnetic composites, the size and shape of the soft magnetic powder and the microstructure in the powder are closely related to the magnetic properties. In this study, Fe-Si-Al-P alloy powders were manufactured using various manufacturing process parameter sets, and the process parameters of the vacuum induction melt gas atomization process were set as melt temperature, atomization gas pressure, and gas flow rate. Process variable data that records are converted into 6 types of data for each powder recovery section. Process variable data that recorded minute changes were converted into 6 types of data and used as input variables. As output variables, a total of 6 types were designated by measuring the particle size, flowability, apparent density, and sphericity of the manufactured powders according to the process variable conditions. The sensitivity of the input and output variables was analyzed through the Pearson correlation coefficient, and a total of 6 powder characteristics were analyzed by artificial neural network model. The prediction results were compared with the results through linear regression analysis and response surface methodology, respectively.
Solid polymers exhibit rate-dependent deformation behavior such as nonlinear strain rate sensitivity and stress relaxation like metallic materials. Despite the different microstructures of polymeric and metallic materials, they have common properties with respect to inelastic deformation. Unlike most metallic materials, solid polymers and shape memory alloys (SMAs) exhibit highly nonlinear stress-strain behavior upon unloading. The present work employs the viscoplasticity theory [K. Ho, 2011, Trans. Mater. Process. 20, 350-356] developed for the pseudoelastic behavior of SMAs, which is based on unified state variable theory for the rate-dependent inelastic deformation behavior of typical metallic materials, to depict the curved unloading behavior of polyphenylene oxide (PPO). The constitutive equations are characterized by the evolution laws of two state variables that are related to the elastic modulus and the back stress. The simulation results are compared with the experimental data obtained by Krempl and Khan [2003, Int. J. Plasticity 19, 1069-1095].
Under variable amplitude loading conditions, retardation or accelerated condition of fatigue crack growth occurs with every cycle, Because fatigue crack growth behavior varied depend on load time history. The modeling of stress amplitude with storm loading acted to ships and offshore structures applied this paper. The crack closure behavior examine by recording the variation in load-strain relationship. By taking process mentioned above, fatigue crack growth rate, crack length, stress intensity factor, and crack closure stress intensity factor were obtained from the stress cycles of each type of storm ; A(6m), B(7m), C(8m), D(9m), E(11m) and F(15m) which was wave height. It showed that the good agreement with between the experiment results and simulation of storm loads. So this estimated method of crack propagtion rate gives a good criterion for the safe design of vessels and marine structure.
