Geothermal energy is used in various types, such as power generation, direct use, and geothermal heat pumps. Geothermal energy with high temperature have been used for power generation for more than a century. The purpose of the study is to investigate flow and electricity power characteristics of hydraulic turbine for power generation of geothermal heat pump type with closed-system. The differences between the four types of hydraulic turbine, are different from the blade shape, volume, angle and etc. In case of prototype(1), pressure at blade was reduced to 2.1 bar, the kinetic energy of blade increased by increasing flow velocity(4.1 m/s). The increase of flow velocity at the blade edge markedly appeared, to increase the kinetic energy of the rotating shaft. In case that gateway in hydraulic turbine was installed, operating torque and RPM(1,080) of the rotating shaft increased respectively. Although rotational speed of prototype(2) compared to prototype(1) was reduced, the power generation capacity was greater about 3.4 times to 97 W. The most power of 255W was generated from prototype (4).
This study describes aerodynamic noise of high speed wind turbine system, which is invented as a new concept in order to reduce the torque of main shaft, for design parameters of the rotor blade. For parametric study of high speed rotor aerodynamic noise, Unsteady Vortex Lattice Method with Nonlinear Vortex Correction Method is used for analysis of wind turbine blade aerodynamic and Farassat1A and Semi-Empirical are used for low frequency noise and airfoil self noise. Parameters are chord length, twist and rotational speed for this parametric research. In the low frequency range, the change of noise is predicted the same level as each parameters varies. However, in case of broadband noise of blade, the change of rotational speed makes more variation of noise than other parameters. When the geometric angles of attack are fixed, as the rotational speed is increased by 5RPM, the noise level is increased by 4dB.

In order to investigate change of vortex structures and its evolving proceses, two dimensional LDV system was used for measurement of velocity vectors of tip vortex, and PIV system was also used for visualizations of tip vortex array for two bladed rotor, respectively. Experiments provided vortex locations, tangential and axial velocity components of tip vortex at six wake ages of 9.5, 10.5, 60.5, 99.5, 129.5, 169.5 and corresponded six wake ages shifted with 180 degrees per each. It was resulted that tip vortices generated by the first blade satisfy Landgrebe's model for their vortex locations even after they were accelerated by the second blade in downstream. Tangential velocity components of tip vortices follow Vatistas' n=2 model on both inside and outside regions of rotor slipstream without loss of vortex circulation. Axial velocity profiles revealed that there were small but significant perturbations just outside the primary vortex core which implies the second blade affects the wake substantially. It was also found that tip paths of each blade were not willing to be coincided intrinsically.
In order to simulate wake of stator and a gas turbine engine's balde row, acryl cylinder and a linear turbine cascade were used respectively in this study. Experimental of heat transfer distributions was done on the passage endwall and blade suction surface. Temperature distributions on the experimental regions were obtained through image processing system by using the cholesteric type liquid crystal which has chain structure of metyl$(CH_3)$. To represent the degree of heat transfer, dimensionless St number was used. The results show that heat transfer on the blade suction surface was increased due to the wake from the cylinder and was decreased as the distance between cylinder row and blade row increases. Because of groth of passage vortex, heat transfer distributions on the trailing edge area showed triangular shape which was little changed with wake. On the other hand, heat transfer on the passage endwall was decreased due to the wake from cylinder. As the distance between cylinder row and blade row increases, heat transfer was more decreased.

A loosely coupling method is adopted to combine a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver and the comprehensive structural dynamics (CSD) code, CAMRAD II, in a systematic manner to correlate the airloads, vortex trajectories, blade motions, and structural loads of the HART I rotor in descending flight condition. A three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes solver, KFLOW, using chimera overlapped grids has been used to simulate unsteady flow phenomena over helicopter rotor blades. The number of grids used in the CFD computation is about 24 million for the isolated rotor and about 37.6 million for the rotor-fuselage configuration while keeping the background grid spacing identical as 10% blade chord length. The prediction of blade airloads is compared with the experimental data. The current method predicts reasonably well the BVI phenomena of blade airloads. The vortices generated from the fuselage have an influence on airloads in the 1st and 4th quadrants of rotor disk. It appeared that presence of the pylon cylinder resulted in complex turbulent flow field behind the hub center.
The flap-lag-torsion coupled aeroelastic behavior of a hingeless rotor blade with composite flexures in hovering flight has been investigated by using the finite element method. The quasisteady strip theory with dynamic inflow effects is used to obtain the aerodynamic loads acting on the blade. The governing differential equations of motion undergoing moderately large displacements and rotations are derived using the Hamilton's principle. The flexures used in the present model are composed of two composite plates which are rigidly attached together. The lead-lag flexure is located inboard of the flap flexure. A mixed warping model that combines the St. Versant torsion and the Vlasov torsion is developed to describe the twist behavior of the composite flexure. Numerical simulations are carried out to correlate the present results with experimental test data and also to identify the effects of structural couplings of the composite flexures on the aeroelastic stability of the blade. The prediction results agree well with other experimental data. The effects of elastic couplings such as pitch-flap, pitch-lag, and flap-lag couplings on the stability behavior of the composite blades are also investigated.

It was found that more than 60% of the steam turbine blade damages occurred under the condition alternatively repeated wet and dry of vapor and condensed vapor at the lower pressure stage. And also, it has been well known that both the mechanical properties and environmental strength of the steam turbine blade can be changed by the crystal structure. However, in spite of these common facts, it is difficult to find out the quantitative results including the particular environmental condition as well as the actual service conditions. In this study, as a fundamental investigation to provide design information and reliability evaluation of the 12Cr alloy steel used for a steam turbine blade, stress corrosion strength of the 12Cr alloy steel of which its crystal structure is different was assessed under $2.5{\sim}3.5wt.%$ NaCl solution at 90oC. From the results, S-t curves for predicting damage life and design criterion of the 12Cr alloy steel including corrosion environment as well as S.C.C. condition were obtained.

Gas turbines for generation are operated under high temperatures, high pressures and in corrosive environments for long periods of time. This environment causes serious damage to these parts. Therefore, the material, coating, and cooling technology used with a gas turbine are important factors with regard to turbine blade development. One method that can be used to protect a product from harsh conditions is the coating technology. A turbine blade undergoes very aggressive thermal stress and experiences high-temperature fatigue. In order to reduce the surface temperature of the components and protect the blade from high-temperature flames, a thermal barrier coating (TBC) is applied to its substrate. This study confirms the applicability of an inspection system for the turbine blade coating layer using an artificial heat source.
In this paper, an optimization study on a helicopter rotor blade cross-section was made. Generalization was made to the baseline cross-section to simplify the analysis. To have better performance in aeroelastic response, with the aerodynamic center being the origin of the baseline, the distance between aerodynamic center and shear center, and the distance between mass center and shear center of the blade were minimized. For efficient searching of optimum solutions over the design space, grid search method, which is a method of graphical search was used. Two design variables, radius of balancing weight at leading edge, and offset of the spar from leading edge were selected for the study. Cubic spline interpolation method was used to accommodate searching of the optimum solution. 2-Leveled searching system was devised in accordance with the interpolation method. Optimum solution was found to show 6% decrease in both distance between aerodynamic center and shear center, and mass center and shear center to the baseline.
This paper presents a review study for energy-efficient gas turbines (GTs) with cycles which contributes significantly towards sustainable usage. Nonetheless, these progressive engines, operative at turbine inlet temperatures as high as $1600^{\circ}C$, require the employment of highly creep resistant materials for use in hotter section components of gas turbines like combustion chamber and blades. However, the gas turbine obtain its driving power by utilizing the energy of treated gases and air which is at piercing temperature and pushing by expanding through the several rings of steady and vibratory blades. Since the turbine blades works at very high temperature and pressure, high stress concentration are observed on the blades. With the increasing demand of service, to provide adequate efficiency and power within the optimized level, turbine blades are to be made of those materials which can withstand high thermal and working load condition for longer cycle time. This paper depicts the recent developments in the field of implementing the best suited materials for the GTs, selection of proper Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC), fracture analysis and experiments on failed or used turbine blades and several other designing and operating factors which are effecting the blade life and efficiency. It is revealed that Nickel based Superalloys were promising, Cast Iron with Zirconium and Pt-Al coatings are used as best TBC material, material defects are the foremost and prominent reason for blade failure.
