This study reviews usability of PC communication softwares with different dialogue types of user interface. Usability test was conducted to evaluate usability of 3 PC communition softwares which are currently utilized in Korea. Learnability was adopted as an index of usability evaluation, so learning time, testing time and scores were measured as dependent variables. It is suggested that softwares with mixing dialogue type(menu, icon, command) which were implemented in window systems environment were not superior to that with command dialogue type.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate usability quality through investigating the factors of usability for internet shopping mall websites. For this study, previous studies were investigated and experts' discussions were held. In result, six characters of usability were chosen such as content satisfaction. customer attraction satisfaction, price information satisfaction, public security satisfaction, user interface satisfaction. and process of transaction satisfaction that affect usability of shopping mall websites and the evaluation models of 72 detailed measure factors were established. Since these 72 sub-factors inc)ode the key words of HTML, XML, JSP, and ASP from the target websites. 33 measurable sub-factors in the information were measured through usability evaluation experiment. In addition, a questionnaire about usability measure factors was executed after preferable websites and not preferable websites are selected. After that, we verified the reasonability of usability measure model factors comparing the results of the evaluation experiment with the result of the questionnaire. The time it takes to measure the usability of shopping mall websites can be reduced by using this measurement supporting tool. Also, this tool may be used to estimate the usability during the development of a shopping mall website.
To develope more competitive products, lots of attentions are paid to the study of user participation in the process of product design. In this circumstance, the user participation at a usability testing phase is relatively active. However, the usability testing in the controlled laboratory has some drawbacks. for stance, It needs a lot of money, efforts, and time. Most of all, it is difficult to collect a vast range of data and gain a fast feedback Recently, to overcome these difficulties mentioned above, international usability testing has been applied. Especially, usability testing Contents through Internet is considered most effective one. Because it has a lot of merits such as easiness of collecting remote user, simplicity of collecting data, cost effectiveness and so on. With these merits, this study takes advantage of using a WWW to carry out usability test and to collect remote usability data. And a website was development for posting computer simulated product so that the remote users can test its usability through internet.

Research design, data and methodology: For this study, first, consumer and contexts related to intelligent homecare products were analyzed through literature review. Second, the primary usability evaluation factors were derived for intelligent homecare products by collecting the factors related to usability evaluation and conducting in-depth interviews with experts. Third, the second usability evaluation factors were derived through survey and statistical analysis based on the derived usability evaluation factors. Results: As a result, users of intelligent homecare products were classified as primary users and secondary consumers and six related contexts. The usability evaluation scale was established with four factors - Functionality, Error, Convenience, and Emotion - and 13 items. Conclusions: This study can be the basis for developing and distributing products that meet the consumer environment and requirements related to intelligent homecare products that will contribute to securing the competitiveness of companies and developing the technology and service value of related industries.
The present study aims to design an application for anger control training of individuals and test its practical usability with the goal of encouraging preventive training in daily life. This study also investigates, through usability evaluation, whether users can use the application to carry out the actual anger management training program, whether it is useful and convenient, and whether it produces adequate learning effects. In order to conduct usability evaluation, a usability evaluation scale comprised of six factors-utility, reuse intention, learning, error, and reflectivity-was derived, and survey items tailored to each factor were produced. The association between usability evaluation elements, user demographic parameters, mobile usage behavior, and state anger was also examined. The result demonstrated that additional menus and features are necessary to increase the usability of the application for anger management. The result also revealed that it is vital to build an intuitive application interface that users unfamiliar with mobile app functionality can easily navigate, as well as to add entertaining components in the content, as users may be somewhat bored. On the basis of the findings, ideas of modifying and creating anger management training programs were discussed.

Many incidents of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning have occurred because of people being unaware of its presence. There are currently available systems on the market, but they are limited to measuring CO in a certain area and lack vital functions. Additionally, little to no evidence-based information on their quality was available. Thus, a mobile application for detecting CO gas leakage in a vehicle and critical features to assist victims was developed. A usability and functionality test were conducted to determine the product's quality utilizing nine usability and six functionality task scenarios (n=5). Then, a System Usability Scale test was performed to obtain system satisfaction, usability, and learnability (n=50). The usability and functionality test shows that all the tasks given for both tests were 100% successful. The overall score obtained for SUS was 71.4, which indicates good acceptance and usability. Around 20% of respondents claimed that they would need the support of a technical person to be able to use the application and that they needed to learn a lot of things before they could use the application, which indicates the overall high learnability of the application. The result provides empirical evidence that the CO gas leakage detection mobile application is successful and receives good usability, functionality, acceptability, learnability, and satisfaction assessments. DetGas could benefit automobile owners and other stakeholders by mitigating the risk and harm associated with gas leaking that exceeds the safe limit.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aesthetics of smartphones on subjective and objective usability by the task factors. Although several studies have focused on the effects of aesthetics on subjective and objective usability, correlation between aesthetics and objective usability is ambiguous. Using smartphones which have same functions but different aesthetics, thirty-six subjects were asked to complete one of 3 types of tasks (inputting information, searching information, enjoying information). Both performance data and subjective measures were recorded. The results showed that high aesthetics had a more positive effect on subjective usability than low aesthetics before and after use, with smaller difference after use. High aesthetics seemed to yield longer task completion times. But objective usability was not significantly affected by both task factors and aesthetics. The results indicated that aesthetics may have multiple effects that go beyond affective satisfaction. The findings of this study could be applied to predict effects of aesthetics on subjective and objective usability in usability testing.

Usability heuristics("heuristics") are general principles for usability evaluation during user interface design. Our ultimate goal is to extend the practice of usability evaluation methods to a wider audience(e.g. user interface designers and engineers) than Human Computer Interaction(HCI) professionals. To this end, we explored the degree to which Jakob Nielsen's ten usability heuristics are understood by professors and students in design and computer engineering. None of the subjects received formal training in HCI, though some may have had an awareness of some HCI principles. The study identified easy-to-understand heuristics, examined the reasons for the ambiguities in others, and discovered differences between the responses of professors and students to the heuristics. In the course of the study, the subjects showed an increased tendency to think in terms of user-centric design. Furthermore, the findings in this study offer suggestions for improving these heuristics to resolve ambiguities and to extend their practice for user interface designers and engineers.
As user-centered design and content development emerge, the research and the establishment of items on usability evaluation are becoming more important. However, research on usability evaluation for digital systems in specific areas of mobile applications is still incomplete. Due to the recent development of wearable devices and smartphones, development and usage of quantified-self and life-logging applications has been rapidly increasing. This study aims to establish evaluation items and the main factors for the usability assessment of the applications that support life-logging services. In order to establish evaluation factors for life-logging application usability, we first gathered existing usability assessment items and selected the initial items through the Focus Group Interview(FGI). Second, we conducted user assessment surveys on the selected initial questionnaires and performed reliability and exploratory factor analyses based on the survey results. Third, through the statistical analyses results, we established 28 usability assessment items and four factors: recognition; functionality; aesthetics; and satisfaction. Finally, we discussed the expectations and limitations of the established usability assessment. The results from this paper could be used as a guideline for the usability assessment of life-logging applications and thus will contribute to effective content development.
The increased competition in service development in various industrial sectors highlights the importance of producing high-quality services that provide a positive user experience. Although usability evaluation is recognized as an important method of verification of high quality service and utility, the general usability evaluation method has limitations of not taking the characteristics of various participants due to its uniform composition to account. As the following flaws can reduce evaluation efficiency, developing a new guideline seems to be the next step. Thus, this study focused on criteria on how to evaluate the usability for children and proposed non-face-to-face remote usability evaluation configurations and progress guidelines to increase the effectiveness. The following usability evaluation experiment was conducted based on the proposed guidelines and in this process, the effectiveness of the guidelines was verified and the items that needed to be supplemented were derived. It is expected that the non-face-to-face remote usability evaluation guidelines proposed through the study will be used as the basis for designing usability evaluations of services developed for children.
