In this paper, we propose a new type of recurrent neural network architecture in which each output unit is connected with itself and fully-connected with other output units and all hidden units. The proposed recurrent network differs from Jordan's and Elman's recurrent networks in view of functions and architectures because it was originally extended from the multilayer feedforward neural network for improving the discrimination and generalization power. We also prove the convergence property of learning algorithm of the proposed recurrent neural network and analyze the performance of the proposed recurrent neural network by performing recognition experiments with the totally unconstrained handwritten numeral database of Concordia University of Canada. Experimental results confirmed that the proposed recurrent neural network improves the discrimination and generalization power in recognizing spatial patterns.
Even though the blood pressure is one of the most widely used index for the healthcare monitoring of hypertensive and normotensive persons, there is no non-intrusive measurement method which is commercialized until now. Pulse Arrival Time (PAT) is known that it has close relation with the systolic blood pressure (SBP) and arterial stiffness. In this study, SBP estimation methods by non-intrusive measurement of PAT are suggested. For the unconstrained measurement of PAT, the first method used the electrically non contact electrocardiogram (ENC-ECG) technique and the reflective type of Photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor on the computer mouse. In the second method, ENC-ECG and the air pressure sensor in the seat cushion on a chair were measured. The third method used ECG electrodes and PPG sensors on the toilet seat cover. The validation and regression analysis of the relationship of PAT and SBP are summarized. These methods have considerable errors to be used for all people. But these can be applied for each subject after the parameter customization within acceptable error. So, it is feasible for suggested methods to be used for monitoring of SBP in daily life in non-intrusive way when there is personal identification system of each subject.
This paper is presented to solve the buckling problem of functionally graded truncated conical shells subjected to displacement-dependent pressure which remains normal to the shell middle surface throughout the deformation process by the semi-analytical finite strip method. Material properties are assumed to be temperature dependent, and varied continuously in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of a ceramic and metal. The governing equations are derived based on first-order shear deformation theory which accounts for through thickness shear flexibility with Sanders-type of kinematic nonlinearity. The element linear and geometric stiffness matrices are obtained using virtual work expression for functionally graded materials. The load stiffness also called pressure stiffness matrix which accounts for variation of load direction is derived for each strip and after assembling, global load stiffness matrix of the shell which may be un-symmetric is formed. The un-symmetric parts which are due to load non-uniformity and unconstrained boundaries have been separated. A detailed parametric study is carried out to quantify the effects of power-law index of functional graded material and shell geometry variations on the difference between follower and non-follower lateral buckling pressures. The results indicate that considering pressure stiffness which arises from follower action of pressure causes considerable reduction in estimating buckling pressure.
Being able to monitor the heart will allow the diagnosis of heart diseases for patients during daily activities, and the detection of burden on the heart during strenuous exercise. Furthermore, with the help of U-health technology, immediate medical action can be taken, in the case of abnormal symptoms of the heart in daily life. Therefore, it appears to be necessary to develop the corresponding technology to monitor the condition of the heart daily. In this study, a novel wearable smart system was proposed, to monitor the activity of the heart in daily life, and to further evaluate the rhythm of arrhythmia. The wearable system includes three modified bipolar conductive fiber electrodes in the chest part, which can resolve the reduction problem of the magnitude of the signal, by magnifying the signal and removing the noise, to obtain high affinity and validity for medical-type usage (<0.903%). The biological signal acquisition and data lines, and the signal processing engine and communication consist of a conductive ink, and the pic18 and ANT protocol nRF24AP2, respectively. The proposed algorithm was able to detect a strong ECG, signal and r-point passing over the noise. The confidence intervals were 96 %, which could satisfy the requirement to detect arrhythmia under the unconstrained conditions.

Purpose: To show the results in term of pain and functional recovery in the mid-term follow up of total ankle replacement. Materials and Methods: We followed up 7 patients who had undergone total ankle arthroplasty during the periods between April 1990 and May 1997. They were evaluated after mean follow up of 3.6 years. Results: We reviewed these cases with regand to (in terms of) pain, function and alignment according to the Ankle-Hindfoot Scale designed by American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. The average point was 78. Conclusion: Total ankle replacement especially unconstrained type seems good alternative to arthrodesis in selected cases of ankle arthrosis.

The volume expansions of $Ti_{0.95}Zr_{0.05}V_{0.4}Mn_{1.45}Fe_{0.1}Cr_{0.05}$ alloy during hydrogenation with various conditions have been investigated. The theoretical volume expansion measured with XRD for this alloy with hydrogenation was 21%. The apparent volume expansion of this alloy ingot with hydrogenation was composed of two effects. One is a hydrogenation and the other is a pulverization. The apparent volume of free alloy powder was 1.8 times greater than that of an ingot, implying the pulverization effect on the apparent volume expansion is 80%. The apparent volume expansion of the alloy ingot with hydrogenation under a unconstrained condition was about 80 (${\pm}15$)%, much smaller than that of free alloy powder which expected as 118%. In addition, The apparent volume expansion of the alloy ingot with hydrogenation under a constrained condition(Al container) was about 50%, much smaller than that of the unconsrained. This reduced apparent volume expansion of the alloy ingot could be attributed to an arrangement of alloy powder keeping its original shape of the ingot even after hydrogenation.

Design optimization of the heat sink with 7${\times}$7 square pin-fins is performed numerically using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and the Computer Aided Optimization (CAO). In the pin-fins heat sink, the optimum design variables for fin height (h), fin width (w), and fan-to-heat sink distance (c) can be achieved when the thermal resistance ($\theta$$_{j}$) at the junction and the overall pressure drop ($\Delta$p) are minimized simultaneously. To complete the optimization, the finite volume method for calculating the objective functions, the BFGS method for solving the unconstrained non-linear optimization problem, and the weighting method for predicting the multi-objective problem are used. The results show that the optimum design variable for the weighting coefficient of 0.5 are as follows: w=4.653 mm, h=59.215 mm, and c=2.667 mm. In this case, the objective functions are predicted as 0.56K/W of thermal resistance and 6.91 Pa of pressure drop. The Pareto optimal solutions are also presented.re also presented.d.

This paper presents off-line handwritten numeral recognition method by using Eigen-Vectors. In this method, numeral features are extracted statistically by using Eigen-Vectors through KL transform and input numeral is recognized in the feature space by the nearest-neighbor classifier. In our feature extraction method, basis vectors which express best the property of each numeral type within the extensive database of sample numeral images are calculated, and the numeral features are obtained by using this basis vectors. Through the experiments with the unconstrained handwritten numeral database of Concordia University, we have achieved a recognition rate of 96.2%.

In this study, we implemented an unconstraint ECG monitoring system on a chair. Nowadays, modern people spend most of their time sitting on the chair. Therefore, it is necessary to have an unconstraint ECG monitoring system that can be used for a long time. The implemented system can perform measurement even with clothes on and it has great advantage on motion artifacts. A pair of unconstraint electrodes are placed on the back of the chair. Amplifier and filters are designed to remove motion artifacts, The baseline noise and power line noise are filtered and very low level of bio-signal is amplified to give a final measurement. Control unit and wireless transmission unit are implemented. Analog signal is converted into digital signal and transmits biological signal to the PC and the smart phone. Therefore continuous ECG monitoring in daily life is made possible. A comparison experiment between Ag / AgCl electrode and unconstraint electrode is conducted to evaluate the performance of the implemented system. As a result, we confirm our unconstraint system can be used for daily life ECG monitoring.

The functional disabilities post arthrodesis of the ankle include difficulty in climbing inclined surface, such as hill, ramps, or stair even through without pain. There will be periankle joints arthrosis as time passes. Total ankle replacement permits remobilization, no need for prolonged immobilization. There will be no increas in the mechanical stress of the neiboring joint. Total ankle replacement has been proposed as an alternative to arthrodesis in the management of painful arthrosis of the tibiotalar joint recently. We performed 7 cases of replacement from 1990. 4. 1 to 1996. 7. 1 with 2-3 years follow up. A retrospective review was undertaken for 7 patients with the arthrosis of tibiotatar joint. The results were as following. 1. The clinical results according to the point system for ankle study evaluation were excellent in 2 cases, good in 4 cases, and fair 1 case. 2. The improvement was especially obvious in terms of pain and functional recovery. 3. Total ankle replacement especially unconstrained type seems quite good alternative to arthrodesis.
