  • In this paper, a dynamic analysis based on the fuzzy set theory is presented as a possible complementary tool to the classical stochastic methods for dynamic analyses. Material parameters of a structure are influenced by uncertainties and therefore they are considered to be fuzzy quantities with given distributions, that means fuzzy numbers with given membership functions. The fuzzy dynamic analysis is conducted with help of fuzzy arithmetic defined on the so-called ${\alpha}$-cuts. The results of the analysis are also obtained in the form of fuzzy numbers, which compared to the stochastic methods is less computationaly expensive while at the same time they still provide information about the distribution of a quantity. This method is demonstrated on an analysis of a two-dimensional frame subjected to possible seismic load, where the uncertain eigenmodes and eigenfrequencies are used in the modal analysis.

  • Business managers are often required to use LP problems to deal with uncertainty inherent in decision making due to rapid changes in today's business environments. Uncertain parameters can be easily formulated in the two-stage stochastic LP problems. However, since solution methods are complex and time-consuming, a common approach has been to use modified formulations to provide upper and lower bounds on the two-stage stochastic LP problem. One approach is to use an expected value problem, which provides upper and lower bounds. Another approach is to use “walt-and-see” problem to provide upper and lower bounds. The objective of this paper is to propose a modified approach of “wait-and-see” problem to provide an upper bound and to compare the relative error of optimal value with various upper and lower bounds. A computing experiment is implemented to show the relative error of optimal value with various upper and lower bounds and computing times.

  • This paper presents a $H_{\infty}$ robust controller with parameter estimation in polynomial approach. For good performance of a uncertain system, the parameters are estimated by RLS algorithm. The controller minimizes the sum of $H_{\infty}$ norm between sensitivity function and complementary sensitivity function by employing the Youla parameterization and polynomial approach at the same time. A numerical example and its simulation results are given to show the validity of the proposed controller.

  • Generally, biped walking is difficult to control because a biped robot is a nonlinear system with various uncertainties. In this paper, we propose a hybrid control system to improve the efficiency of position tracking performance of biped locomotion. In our control system, the wavelet neural network (WNN) based on Sliding mode controller is used as a main controller which estimates a biped robot model, and the compensated controller is proposed to compensate the estimation error. A WNN is utilized to estimate uncertain and nonlinear system parameters, where the weights of WNN are trained by adaptive laws that are induced from the Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control system is verified through computer simulations.

  • Adaptive control systems based upon the command generator tracker(CGT) approach have attracted considerable interest because of the simple structure of its adaptive controller. Some attempts to such improve the adaptive control algorithm, for the sake of the application to broader class of plants, are made. Recently, Su and Sobel(1992) proposed that those schemes can be treated by an unified theory using a metasystem representation with some types of supplementary dynamics. However, in their method, it is difficult to find the dynamic compensator, which is proper and output feedback stabilizable, for the uncertain plant. This paper proposes a new design method of such supplementary dynamics and some parameters of adaptive control system for linear time invariant SISO plants. The method gives a concrete and systematic design method using only a few priori knowledge of the plant.

  • We consider a feedback control system including interval plant where uncertain parameters expressed in the hyperrectangular box X. Here we define the maximum value of the integral of the error(ISE) as the worst performance index(WPI) due to the plant parameter uncertainty. Suppose that the closed loop system retains robust stability and it belongs to type I. Then we show that the WPI occurs only on the exposed edges of Q. In particular, it is also shown that if ISE is a convex function relative to X, the WPI is attained at one of vertices of X. Some examples are given.

  • Generally, biped walking is difficult to control because it is a nonlinear system with various uncertainties. In this paper, we design a robust control system based on sliding-mode control (SMC) of 5-link biped robot using the wavelet neural network(WNN), in order to improve the efficiency of position tracking performance of biped locomotion. • In this paper, a direct model reference adaptive fuzzy control (MRAFC) scheme is developed for the plant model whose structure is represented by the MIMO Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. The MRAFC scheme is proposed to provide asymptotic tracking of a reference signal lot the systems with uncertain or slowly time-varying parameters. The developed control law and adaptive law guarantee that all signals in the closed-loop system are bounded. In addition, the plant state tracks the state of the reference model asymptotically with time tot any bounded reference input signal.

  • This paper presents a robust control of a smart flexible structure featured by a piezofilm actuator characterizing its light weght and quick response time. A mathematical governing equation for the proposed structure is derived by employing Hamilton's principle and a state space control model is subsequentrly obtained through modal analysis. Uncertain system parameters such as frequency variation are included in the control model. A sliding mode control theroy thich has inherent robustness to systme uncertainties is adopted to design a tracking controller for the peizofilm actuator. Using the output informaiton from the tip deflection sensor, a full-order observer is constructed ot estimate state variables for the system. Tracking performances for desired trajectories of sinusoidal amd step functions are evaluated by undertaking both simulation and experimental works.

  • This paper presents a GA(Genetic Algorithms)-Optical control strategy for the control of the swing motion and the transverse position of the overhead crane. The overhead crane system is defined uncertain due to unknown system parameters such as payload and trolly mass. To control the overhead crane. the GA-Optimal control scheme is suggested. which transfers a trolly to a desired place as fast as possible and minimizes the swing of the payload during the transfer. The genetic algorithms are applied to fine digital optimal feedback gains. A computer simulation demonstrate the performance of the proposed the GA-digital optimal controller for the overhead crane.
