  • Biomedical mobile devices for ubiquitous healthcare consist of biomedical sensors and communication terminal. They have two types of configuration. One is the sensor-network type device using wired or wireless communication with intelligent sensors to acquire biomedical data. The other is the sensor embedded type device, where the data can be acquired directly by itself. There are many examples of sensor network type, such as, fall detection sensor, blood glucose sensor, and ECG sensors networked with commercial PDA phone and commercial phone terminal for ubiquitous healthcare. On the other hand, sensor embedded type mounts blood glucose sensor, accelerometer, and etc. on commercial phone. However, to enable true ubiquitous healthcare, motion sensing is essential, because users go around anywhere and their signals should be measured and monitored, when they are affected by the motion. Therefore, in this paper, two biomedical mobile devices with motion monitoring function were addressed. One is sensor-network type with motion monitoring function, which uses Zigbee communication to measure the ECG, PPG and acceleration. The other is sensor-embedded type with motion monitoring function, which also can measure the data and uses the built-in cellular phone network modem for remote connection. These devices are expected to be useful for ubiquitous healthcare in coming aged society in Korea.

  • It is essential to investigate the structure and the main characteristic of Home USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technologies in built ubiquitous environment while designing bio-sensors. For this study, Thermistor elements and Thermopile black body have been selected to implement ubiquitous technologies for bio-sensors and wireless network such as WiBro has been used to transfer sensing data to the BSN (Bio-Sensor Network) gateway. It is certain that efficiency of ubiquitous space design is improved if main components of each specific sensor network are analyzed precisely in digital way and corresponding communication modules are prepared accordingly. Ubiquitous technology, in conclusion, has to be applied not only with systematical mechanism or electronic setting but in human-centered atmosphere as well, keeping with deep consideration for bio-housing service factors in eco-friendly surrounding.

  • Ubiquitous sensor network is to manage and collect information autonomously by communicating user around device. Security requirements in Ubiquitous based on sensor network are as follows: a location of sensor, a restriction of performance by low electric power, communication by broadcasting, etc. We propose new mutual authentication protocol using a low power of sensor node. This protocol solved a low power problem by reducing calculation overload of sensor node using two steps, RM(Register Manager) and AM(Authentication Manager). Many operations performing the sensor node itself have a big overload in low power node. Our protocol reduces the operation number from sensor node. Also it is mutual authentication protocol in Ubiquitous network, which satisfies mutual authentication, session key establishment, user and device authentication, MITM attack, confidentiality, integrity, and is safe the security enemy with solving low electric power problem.

  • Ubiquitous healthcare monitoring and measuring system based on wireless sensor network was implemented and tested. The system can measure the ECG and body temperature of patients or elderly persons and transfer the data wirelessly in ad-hoc network to remote base-station connected to doctor's PDA/PC or hospital server, using wireless sensor motes. The data obtained can be analyzed by doctors and care providers to monitor a health status of patient in real time environment. To prove the capabilities of the wireless sensor network platform for ubiquitous healthcare applications, the performance of our monitoring and measuring system was tested with positive results.

  • The Ubiquitous Sensor Network, a new computing paradigm, is a core technology of ubiquitous computing for context-awareness monitoring system using sensor networks. Recently, ubiquitous campus has been developed to build ubiquitous computing environments in many universities. In this paper, I propose the development of context-awareness monitoring system, to acquire the context information through various sensors and provide the campus information and safety services for students with disabilities using mobile devices. Ubiquitous sensor system based on u-campus technology for students with disabilities can especially be used to provide customized information.

  • Ubiquitous computing supports environment to freely connect to network without restrictions of place and time. This environment enables easy access and sharing of information, but because of easy unauthorized accesses, specified security policy is needed. Especially, ubiquitous sensor network devices use limited power and are small in size, so, many restrictions on policies are bound to happen. This paper proposes double-key based light weight security protocol, independent to specific sensor OS, platform and routing protocol in ubiquitous sensor network. The proposed protocol supports safe symmetric key distribution, and allows security manager to change and manage security levels and keys. This had a strong merit by which small process can make large security measures. In the performance evaluation, the proposed light weight security protocol using double-key in ubiquitous sensor network allows relatively efficient low power security policy. It will be efficient to ubiquitous sensor network, such as smart of ace and smart home.

  • Low power consumption sensor network platform (sensor node) for sensor networking with IEEE 802.15.4 protocol was fabricated. The sensor node used ceramic bar type antenna for increasing RF signal performance and decreasing PCB size occupied by antenna. The communication range of the fabricated sensor node was about $20{\sim}30$ m in open environment with 915 MHz frequency bandwidth and well supported by Tiny OS. The sensor node have good connectivity with various external devices by RS-232, I2C, analogue and digital expansion board, hence, this sensor node can be applied to various applications in wireless sensor network and ubiquitous sensor network.

  • Under ubiquitous environment, applications can gather and utilize various sensing information. There are many issues such as energy management, protocol standardization, independency on sensor fields, and security to be resolved for the complete ubiquitous computing. Especially, the independent information access in the sensor field is one of the most important issues to maximize the usability of sensors in various sensor fields. However, existing frameworks are not suitable for the ubiquitous computing environment because of data heterogeneity between data elements in sensor fields. Existing applications are dependent to sensor fields and sensors in the existing ubiquitous computing on environment is dependent to the application in the sensor field. In other word, an application can utilize just information from a specific sensor field. To overcome this restriction, many issues from a hardware or software view must be resolved. In this paper, we provide the design and implementation of the Metadata Registry-based framework (UbiMDR) of the Ubiquitous environment. This framework can provides the semantic interoperability among ubiquitous applications or various sensor fields. In addition, we describe comparison evaluation between conventional Ubiquitous computing framework and UbiMDR framework with data accuracy of interoperability.

  • Technological progress in integrated, low-power, CMOS communication devices and sensors makes a rich design space of networked sensors viable. These sensors can be deeply embedded in the physical world and spread throughout sensor network environment like smart dust. So ubiquitous computing will be come true. SmartDust project is the one of ubiquitous computing approach. It produces TinyOS, mote(mica, mica2, rene2, mica2dot, etc.), NesC, TinyDB, etc. We constructs sensor network test bed and tests to approach sensor network and ubiquitous computing.
