Indium tin oxide (ITO) has a lot of variations of its properties because it is basically in an amorphous state. Therefore, the differences in composition ratio of ITO can result in alteration of electrical properties. Normally, ITO is considered as transparent conductive oxide (TCO), possessing excellent properties for the optical and electrical devices. Quantitatively, TCO has transparency over 80 percent within the range of 380nm to 780nm, which is visible light although its specific resistance is less than $10-3{\Omega}/cm$. Thus, the solar cell is the best example for which ITO has perfectly matching profile. In addition, when ITO is used as transparent conductive electrode, this material essentially has to have a proper work function with contact materials. For instance, heterojunction with intrinsic thin layer (HIT) solar cell could have both front ITO and backside ITO. Because each side of ITO films has different type of contact materials, p-type amorphous silicon and n-type amorphous silicon, work function of ITO has to be modified to transport carrier with low built-in potential and Schottky barrier, and approximately requires variation from 3 eV to 5 eV. In this study, we examine the change of work function for different sputtering conditions using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). Structure of ITO films was investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Optical transmittance of the films was evaluated by using an ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer
Some mononuclear oxovanadium(IV) complexes having the general formula [VOL(bidentate)] (1-4) of which L is tridentate ONS-donor salicylaldehyde S-methyldithiocarbazate (sal-mdtc$^{2-}$) or salicylaldehyde 4- phenylthiosemicarbazate (sal-phtsc$^{2-}$) and bidentate stands for 2,2'-bipyridyl (bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, FAB mass, UV, IR spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Two of the complexes [VO(sal-mdtc)(bpy)] (1) and [VO(sal-mdtc) (phen)] (2) were crystallographically characterized. The structures revealed that vanadium atom is octahedrally coordinated by the O, N, and S donor atoms of the tridentate ligand, the two N atoms of bidentate ligand, and the oxo atom. The oxygen donor, occupying an apical position has a trans-labilizing effect, resulting in elongation of the V-N bond. The cyclic voltammograms of the complexes exhibited one cathodic response in the range −d1.45 $\sim$ −f1.52 V due to the reduction of V(IV) to V(III).
Callophylum symingtonianum (Guttiferae), an evergreen broad-leaved tree that usually grows in hill forests, can be found distributed in the Malay Peninsula. The barks, leaves, flowers and seeds is often used medicinally to treat diarrhea and rheumatism. In the present study, we isolated two inophyllum type coumarins, 12-O-ethylinophyllum D (1) and iso-soulattrolide (2) from the stembarks of C. symingtonianum together with their antibacterial activity. The compounds were isolated by chromatographic methods on a silica gel. The structures were established by spectroscopic methods including UV, IR, (1D and 2D) NMR and mass spectrometry as well as by comparison with several literature sources. The antibacterial activity of those compounds was tested using a disc-diffusion assay against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Both compound exhibited mild inhibition against P. aeruginosa with both $111{\mu}g/ml$ MIC value. Compound 2 also inhibits S. aureus with $25{\mu}g/ml$ MIC value.

To find an antagonist of Pythium ultimum, the causal agent of damping-off, numerous actinomycete strains were screened for in vitro inhibiting mycelial growth of the target fungus and producing bioactive metabolites. A strain identified as Streptomyces sp. G60655 was isolated and used for further antagonistic efficacy. The degree of antagonism between the fungus and G60655 was affected by the medium used. Furthermore, the preinoculation of the antagonist was found to be necessary to exhibit the maximum efficacy of antagonsim against the fungus. From the culture broth, a bioactive metabolite was detected and purified by solvent extraction, silica gel chromatography and preparative HPLC. The FAB-MS spectrum of the active compound showed a molecular ion peak at m/z 1101 (M + H)$\^$+/, suggesting the molecular weight of 1100. The UV absorptions at 242 and 323 nm indicated the presence of aromatic functions. The structure of this compound was identified as echinomycin, a depsipeptide antibiotic by spectroscopic studies including various NMR measurements. Echinomycin was inactive against several soil born fungi, but inhibited the mycelial growth of P. ultimum and its related oomycetous fungi.

Subphthalocyanine (SubPc) derivatives with different kind of substitute groups were synthesized successfully from various precursors using conventional and microwave heating sources. The chemical structure of precursor and product was determined by $^{1}H-NMR$ and FT-IR spectrometer. Also, spectroscopic property was measured by UV-Vis spectrometer. Compared to the conventional synthesis, it was found that SubPc derivatives were synthesized for a shorter reaction time with a higher synthetic yield in the microwave synthesis.

Twelve actinomycete strains were isolated from Egyptian soil. The isolated actinomycete strains were then screened with regard to their potential to generate antibiotics. The most potent of the producer strains was selected and identified. The cultural and physiological characteristics of the strain identified. the strain as a member of the genus Streptomyces. The nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene (1.5kb) of the most potent strain evidenced a 99% similarity with Streptomyces spp. and S. aureofaciens 16S rRNA genes, and the isolated strain was ultimately identified as Streptomyces sp. MAR01. The extraction of the fermentation broth of this strain resulted in the isolation of one major compound, which was active in vitro against gram-positive, gram-negative representatives and Candida albicans. The chemical structure of this bioactive compound was elucidated based on the spectroscopic data obtained from the application of MS, IR, UV, $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR, and elemental analysis techniques. Via comparison to the reference data in the relevant literature and in the database search, this antibiotic, which had a molecular formula of $C_{19}H_{29}NO_2$ and a molecular weight of 303.44, was determined to differ from those produced by this genus as well as the available known antibiotics. Therefore, this antibiotic was designated Meroparamycin.
Resonance doublets including O VI 1032, 1038, NV 1239, 1243 and C IV 1548, 1551 constitute prominent emission lines in symbiotic stars and planetary nebulae. Spectroscopic studies of symbiotic stars and planetary nebulae from UV space telescopes show various line ratios of these doublets deviating from the theoretical ratio of 2:1. Using a Monte Carlo technique, we investigate the collisional de-excitation effect in these emission nebulae. We consider an emission nebula around the hot component of a symbiotic star characterized by the collisional de-excitation probability $p_{coll}\;{\sim}\;10^{-3}\;-\;10^{-4}$ per each resonance scattering, and the line center optical depths for major resonance doublets in the range ${\tau}_0\;{\sim}\;10^2\;-\;10^5$. We find that various line ratios are obtained when the product $p_{coll}{\tau}_0$ is of order unity. Our Monte Carlo calculations show that the flux ratio can be approximately fitted by a linear function of ${\log}{\tau}_0$ when ${\tau}_0p_{coll}\;{\sim}\;1$. It is briefly discussed that this corresponds to the range relevant to the emission nebulae of symbiotic stars.
Copper complexes have been directly incorporated into cellulose acetate (CA) and the resulting light blue colored homogeneous films of 5-20 wt.% copper acetate complex concentrations are found to be thermally stable up to 200 $^{\circ}C$. The reaction chem istry of Cu in CA has been investigated by reacting them with small gas molecules such as CO, H2, D2, O2, NO, and olefins in the temperature range of 25-160 $^{\circ}C$, and various Cu-hydride, -carbonyl, -nitrosyl, and olefin species coordinated to Cu sites in CA are characterized by IR and UV/Vis spectroscopic study. The reduction of Cu(II) complexes by reacting with H2 gas at the described conditions results in the formation of Cu2O and copper metal nanoparticles in CA, and their sizes in 30-120 nm range are found to be controlled by adjusting metal complex concentration in CA and/or the reduction reaction conditions. These small copper metal particles show various catalytic reactivity in hydrogenation of olefins and CH3CN; CO oxidation; and NO reduction reactions under relatively mild conditions.

The synthesis, X-ray crystallography, spectroscopic (IR, UV-vis), and electrochemical properties of the title compound, $[H_3O][Cr(dipic)_2][H_3O^+.Cl^-]$ (1), ($H_2dipic$ = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid), are reported. This complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cc with a = 14.9006(10) ${\AA}$, b = 12.2114(8) ${\AA}$, c = 8.6337(6) ${\AA}$, ${\alpha}=90.00^{\circ}$, ${\beta}=92.7460(10)^{\circ}$, ${\gamma}=90.00^{\circ}$, and V = 1569.16(18) ${\AA}^3$ with Z = 4. The hydrogen bonding and noncovalent interactions play roles in the stabilization of the structure. In order to gain a better understanding of the most important geometrical parameters in the structure of the complex, atoms in molecules (AIM) method at B3LYP/6-31G level of theory has been employed.
The constituents of Sanguisorba hakusanensis leaves (Rosaceae), of which the roots have been used as an astringent, hemostatics and antiphlogistics, were studied phytoche mically. From water fraction of the MeOH extract, gallic acid 3-O-${\beta}$-D-(6'-O-galloyl)-glucopyranoside(I), quercetin-3-O-${\beta$-D-galactopyranoside(II), quercetin-3-O-${\alpha}$-L-arabinopyranoside(III) and $2{\alpha},\;3{\beta},\;19{\alpha}$, 23-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid 28-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside(IV) were isolated by column chromatographic separation using Amberlite XAD-2, ODS-gel and Sephadex LH-20. The structure of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic parameters of $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR, $^1H-^1H$ COSY, $^{13}C-^1H$ COSY, EI-Mass, FAB-Mass, IR, UV and by comparison with authentic samples.
