We propose UPGMA(Unweighted Pair Group Method using Average distance) as hierarchical clustering to detect abrupt shot changes using multiple features such as pixel-by-pixel difference, global and local histogram difference. Conventional $\kappa$-means algorithm which is a method of the partitional clustering, has to select an efficient initial cluster center adaptively UPGMA that we propose, does not need initial cluster center because of agglomerative algorithm that it starts from each sample for clusters. And UPGMA results in stable performance. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm works not only well but also stably.
This study compared and analyzed EPT ratio, EPT richness and EPT number(number of species and individuals) of a total of 9 selected sites individually using EPT-group of aquatic insects in Musim stream, also compared similarity ratio between the sampling sites using UPGMA(Unweighted Paired Group Method using Arithmetic average) based on analysis subsequent to species structure of aquatic insects, and compared and analyzed a functional feeding groups(FFGs) of aquatic insects based on stream order. As a result, the aquatic insect group of 2,269 individuals is classified as 71 species, 36 families, and 8 orders, and EPT ratio and EPT richness at sites 3(0.72 and 3.89, respectively) were found to be relatively higher than those at the other sites; by contrast, those at site 9(0.03 and 0.09, respectively) were relatively low. EPT number of species and individuals was found to be lowest at site 9. As a result of UPGMA analysis, the sampling sites in Musim stream were divided into three groups, including A1(site 1, 7, 8), A2(site 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and B(site 9). According to the results of FFGs, there was not shown specific difference in the number of functional feeding groups by each sites; however, there appeared a little more shredders and scrappers in the upper and mid stream comparing to other sampling sites while collector-filterers and collector-gatherers were found to be dominant in number in the lower stream. According to this research result, the sampling sites in Musim stream were found to have an effect on not only EPT richness, EPT ratio, and EPT number but also FFGs structure.
In order to estimate the genetic relationships among four taxa of Korean Symplocaceae and their regional populations, RAPDs analysis was performed. The length of the amplified DNA fragments ranged from 150 to 1,900 bp. Ninety-two RAPD bands were scored for 11 primers and the genetic distance was calculated with by Nei-Li's genetic dissimilarity. Deciduous and evergreen groups were clearly separated in the UPGMA analysis. Symplocos coreana was clustered as a distinct group, and S. sawafutagi and S. tanakana were also clustered at specific level, respectively. The RAPD data was useful to cognize the genetic variation and to discuss the relationships among Korean Symplocaceae
Numerical analysis based on the 67 morphological characters from 28 populations of 6 species of Korean Rhus sensu lato (Anacardiaceae) was performed for the taxonomic delimitation. Based on the results of PCA with 47 quantitative characters, the sum of contributions for the total variance of three major principal components was 77,9% (PCl 35.2%, PC2 22.5% and PC3 20.2%). The sum of contributions for the total variance of three major principal components were 90,7% (PCl 37.7%, PC2 33.0% and PC3 20.0%) based on the results of PCA with 20 qualitative The characters. Two dimensional plotting from PCA results recognized six distinct species. UPGMA phenogram based on simple matching coefficient method recognized clear taxonomic delimitations among six taxa. On the cluster analysis, qualitative characters were more useful for grouping the species treated. Numerical analysis was very valuable to delimit the Korean taxa of Rhus s.l.
Echinochloa (L.) P. Beauv. includes some of the noxious weeds, causing a serious yield loss when they are dominant in the fields. Identification of the Echinochloa is very difficult because many interspecific and intraspecific forms of the species are found. However, it is important to identify the species exactly and to know the genetic diversity of the species for effective weed management. This study was conducted to identify and summarize the Echinochloa species by comparing the genetic variation and relationship among Korean Echinochloa species using SSR. The genetic diversity of 107 individuals, including seven species were assessed using five SSR markers. UPGMA dendrogram generated two clades (I and II) and clade II divided again into two subclades (II-1 and II-2) whereas the model based genetic structure proposed four subpopulations. The two subpopulations were corresponded to clades I and II-1 and the other two were arranged to clade II-2 of the UPGMA dendrogram. We have concluded that E. colona and E. glabrescens might have not distributed in Korea. The biological varieties, praticola and echinata, of E. crus-galli should be treated as E. crus-galli. Korean Echinochloa should be summarized with four species, i.e., E. oryzicola, E. crus-galli, E. esculenta, and E. oryzoides.

Genetic diversity and genetic differentiation in six natural populations of Abies holophylla Max were investigated using ISSR marker system. From 6 ISSR primers, the average percentage of polymorphic loci was 85.6%, and the average expected heterozygosity ($H_e$) was 0.288. From the result of AMOVA, 94.4% of total genetic variation came from the differences among individuals within populations, and 5.6% was caused by those of among-populations. On the basis of Bayesian inference, genetic differentiation (${\theta}^{II}$ and $G_{ST}$) and inbreeding coefficient for all populations were 0.045, 0.038, and 0.509, respectively. The correlation between genetic distance and geographical distance was highly significant at the Mental's test (r = 0.74, P < 0.05). Six populations divided into two groups according to the results of UPGMA and PCA. One group included Namwon, Cheongdo and Mungyeong population. The other was Inje, Hongcheon and Pyeongchang population. Also, in Bayesian clustering analysis, 6 populations were divided into two clusters. But Cheongdo population was assigned into the other cluster unlike those of UPGMA or PCA. Taking the regions based on the results of the cluster analysis into consideration of AMOVA, 3.9% of genetic variation came from the regional difference. The dendrogram from UPGMA could provide the most genetically reasonable explanation for the distribution of Abies holophylla populations in South Korea.

The RAPD data were used to assess genetic similarity among f grape cultivars. Of the 100 random primers tested on genomic DNA, 10 primers could be selected for Benetic analysis, and the selected primers generated a total of 115 distinct amplification fragments. A similarity matrix was constructed on the basis of the presence or absence of bands. The 7 grape cultivars analyzed with UPGMA were clustered into two groups of A and B. The similarity coefficient value of cultivars was high. The mean similarity index for all pairwise comparisons was 0.851, and ranged from 0.714 ('Rosaki' and 'Black Olympia') to 0.988 ('Kyoho' and 'Daebong'). After due consideration of differences in cultural and morphological characteristics of these two theoretically identical cultivars, it could be deduced that 'Daebong' is a bud sport of 'Kyoho' cultivar.
This study characterized the genetic variations of 13 populations of Asplenium antiquum and its relative species using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. A total 88 scorable RAPD bands were generated by the 12 random oligo primers and were analyzed by Nei and Li's genetic distance. High genetic variability was detected between A. antiquum and A. nidus, with the range from 0.568 to 0.682. And slightly low genetic variations showed within the populations of same species. Seven populations of A. antiquum showed slight differences (0.000-0.216), and five populations of A. nidus showed similar low genetic variations (0.114 to 0.171). Two individuals from Sup-seom Island which are growing in might be the regenerated one from abroad. A. antiquum were clustered as two groups (Group I, Group II) by UPGMA phenogram. And five populations of A. nidus were clustered as two groups correlated with geographical distribution. The RAPD data was very useful to define the genetic variations and to discuss the phylogenetic relationships among A. antiquum and the related species..
In order to estimate the relationships among four taxa (Styrax japonicus, Styrax obassia, Styrax shiraianus and Pterostyrax hispidus) of two genus in the Styracaceae and their regional populations, RAPDs analysis was performed. Fifteen random primers generating 238 RAPD bands were enough to reveal differences in genotype bands. They were clustered into three groups by the UPGMA phenogram. The first group was Styrax japonicus populations, the second group was consisted of Styrax obassia populations and S. shiraianus populations, and third group was Pterostyrax hispidus population. The UPGMA phenogram based on RAPD analyses showed that Styrax obassia and S. shiraianus had the closest relationship among four taxa. Species as well as genera of the Korean Styracaceae were well discriminated by the RAPD analyses.
