  • The overarching objective of this study is to predict the convective heat transfer around a human body under forced strong airflow conditions assuming a strong wind blowing through high-rise buildings or an air shower system in an enclosed space. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses of the flow field and temperature distributions around a human body were carried out to estimate the convective heat transfer coefficient for a whole human body assuming adult male geometry under forced convective airflow conditions between 15 m/s and 25 m/s. A total of 45 CFD analyses were analyzed with boundary conditions that included differences in the air velocity, wind direction and turbulence intensity. In the case of approach air velocity $U_{in}=25m/s$ and turbulent intensity TI = 10%, average convective heat transfer coefficient was estimated at approximately $100W/m^2/K$ for the whole body, and strong dependence on air velocity and turbulence intensity was confirmed. Finally, the formula for the mean convective heat transfer coefficient as a function of approaching average velocity and turbulence intensity was approximated by using the concept of equivalent steady wind speed ($U_{eq}$).

  • In this work, we use the Faber polynomial expansions to find upper bounds for the coefficients of analytic bi-univalent functions in subclass $\Sigma({\tau},{\gamma},{\varphi})$ which is defined by subordination conditions in the open unit disk ${\mathbb{U}}$. In certain cases, our estimates improve some of those existing coefficient bounds.

  • We present a simple geometric approach which uses polar transformation and elementary trigonometry to evaluating an orthant probability in a bivariate normal distribution. Figures are provided to illustrate the situation for varying correlation coefficient. We derive the distribution of the sample correlation coefficient from a bivariate normal distribution when the sample size is 2 as an application.

  • A functional central limit theorem is obtained for a stationary multivariate linear process of the form $X_t=\sum\limits_{u=0}^\infty{A}_{u}Z_{t-u}$, where {$Z_t$} is a sequence of strictly stationary m-dimensional linearly positive quadrant dependent random vectors with $E Z_t = 0$ and $E{\parallel}Z_t{\parallel}^2 <{\infty}$ and {$A_u$} is a sequence of coefficient matrices with $\sum\limits_{u=0}^\infty{\parallel}A_u{\parallel}<{\infty}$ and $\sum\limits_{u=0}^\infty{A}_u{\neq}0_{m{\times}m}$. • In this paper, we study the viscoelastic Kirchhoff type equation with the following nonlinear source and time-varying delay $$u_{tt}-M(x,t,{\parallel}{\nabla}u(t){\parallel}^2){\Delta}u+{\int_{0}^{t}}h(t-{\tau})div[a(x){\nabla}u({\tau})]d{\tau}\\+{\parallel}u{\parallel}^{\gamma}u+{\mu}_1u_t(x,t)+{\mu}_2u_t(x,t-s(t))=0.$$ Under the smallness condition with respect to Kirchhoff coefficient and the relaxation function and other assumptions, we prove the uniform decay rate of the Kirchhoff type energy.

  • The sorption of U(Vl) on a domestic granite is studied as a function of experimental conditions such as contact time, solution-solid ratio, ionic strength, and pH using a batch procedure. The distribution coefficients, $K_{d}$'s, of U(VI) are about 1-100mL/g depending on the experimental conditions. The sorption of U(VI) onto granite particles is greatly dependent upon the contact time, solution-solid ratio, and pH, but very little is dependent on the ionic strength. It is noticed that an U(VI)-carbonate ternary surface complex can be formed in the neutral range of pH. In the alkaline range of pH above 7, U(VI) sorption onto granite particles is greatly decreased due to the formation of anionic U(VI)-carbonate aqueous complexes.s.

  • The evaporation heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for HFC-l34a in flat plate type heat exchangers with enhanced beads were experimentally investigated. Three plate type evaporators with different geometric condition of U-turn area were tested. Mass fluxes were tested over the range of 83kg/$m^2$s to 166kg/$m^2$s, and heat fluxes were varied from 4㎾/$m^2$ to 12㎾/$m^2$. Evaporation temperature was 5$^{\circ}C$ with inlet qualities of 0.1 to 1.0. There was no notable difference in the heat transfer coefficient by geometric variation of U-turn area, but the third plate with cross-ribbed channel at U-turn area was better than others in the evaluation using volume goodness factor comparison. Also, the mixtures of HFC-l34a and PAG oil was tested to determine oil effects on heat transfer and pressure drop. As oil concentration was increased, heat transfer coefficient was increased by 22~48% up to the 3wt.%, but decreased by 14~22% at the 4wt.%. The pressure drop was increased by the maximum of 100% as oil concentration was increased.

  • This paper reports the experimental results on heat transfer characteristics of R-22 and R-407C(HFC-32/125/134a 23/25/52 wt%) condensing inside horizontal smooth and finned tubes. The test condensers used In the study are double pipe heat exchangers of 7.5 mm ID, 9.5 mm OD smooth tube, and 60 finned micro-fin tube with 8.53 mm ID, 9.53 mm OD. Each of these tubes was 4 000 mm long tubes connected with an U-bend. These U type two-path test tubes are divided In 8 local test sections for the identification of the local condensing heat transfer characterisitcs and pressure drop, U-bend effects on condensing flows. Inlet quality is maintained 1.0, and refrigerant mass velocity is varied from 102.0 to $301.0kg/m^2{\cdot}s$. From the results, it was found that the pressure drop of the R-407C Increased, and heat transfer coefficient decreased compared to those of R-22. In comparison condensing heat transfer characteristics of micro-fm tube with those of smooth tube, increasing of condensing heat transfer coefficient was found outstanding compared to the increasing ratio of pressure drop. Furthermore, pressure drop In U-bend showed at most a 30 % compared to the total pressure drop in the test section.

  • The linear thermal expansions of $UO_2$ and $(U_{1-y}Ce_y)O_2$ pellet were measured from room temperature to $1400^{\circ}C$ as a function of Ce contents (0, 7.63, 14.84, and $21.68 mol\%$) by using the TMA(Thermo-Mechanical Analysis) method. From the measured data, the linear thermal expansion rate, the coefficient of linear thermal expansion and density variation with temperature were calculated, and the best-fitted temperature-dependent equations were recommended. It was shown that the rate and coefficient of $(U_{1-y}Ce_y)O_2$ thermal expansion increased and the density decreased with increasing Ce contents.
