  • In this paper, we consider a decision-theoretic oriented, objective Bayesian inference for the difference between two normal means with unknown com-mon variance. We derive the Bayesian reference criterion as well as the intrinsic estimator and the credible region which correspond to the intrinsic discrepancy loss and the reference prior. We illustrate our results using real data analysis as well as simulation study.

  • Using the well-known FLAC program an analylical parametric study was made to investigate the horizontal and vartical solution zone applied to the mountain water tunnel analysis. In the analyses two different heights(30m, 130m) of overburden soils measured from the center of a tunnel and three different coafflclants of lateral earth pressures(0.25, 0.75, 0.5) were adopted. Also the effected of plliar width between twin tunnels, having two different heighte of overburdon soils as well as different soil conditions, were analyzed.

  • We report the extended far-ultraviolet (FUV) halo of NGC 891 above the galactic plane. The FUV intensity distribution is well described by two exponential components, one with the scale height of ~0.34 kpc and the other of ~2.3 kpc. The extraplanar FUV halo is traceable up to > 5 kpc. The FUV halo is attributable to scattered-off starlight by extraplanar dust. Using Monte-Carlo radiative transfer simulations, the FUV intensity distribution along the minor axis is found to be well modeled with two dust comonents. Its implications are discussed.

  • A two dimensional numerical model as well as theoretical formula are used to investigate the seich characteristics of Mok-po harbour. The natural periods of the first two modes computed from the numerical mode are about 34 minutes and 12 minutes which are well consistent with those by the theoretical formula.

  • Stress analysis of split ring with four different radius ratios under the compressive load is made by the photoelastic experiment and the numerical analysis through the FEM. The results of the two methods agreed well. Above results are also compared with those of the theoretical formula in order to confirm the range in which the formula of the curved bar is applied in connection with the radius ratio. The results of the two methods agreed well with those of the formula for the radius ratio, 3/2 and 9/7 within small errors of around 7% and 5% respectively.

  • The well-mixed room model has been traditionally used to predict the concentrations of contaminants in indoor environments. However, this is inappropriate because the flow fields in many indoor environments distribute contaminants non-uniformly, due to imperfect air mixing. Thus, some means used to describe an imperfectly mixed room are needed. The simplest model that accounts for imperfect air mixing is a two-zone model. Therefore, this study on development of computer program far the two-zone model is carried out to propose techniques of estimating the concentration of contaminants in the room. To do this, an important consideration is to divide a room into two-zone, i.e. the lower and upper zone assuming that the air and contaminants are well mixed within each zone. And between the zones the air recirculation is characterized through the air exchange parameter. By this basic assumption, the equations for the conservation of mass are derived for each zone. These equations are solved by using the computational technique. The language used to develope the program is a VISUAL BASIC. The value of air exchange coefficient($f_12$) is the most difficult to forecast when the concentrations of contaminants in an imperfectly mixed room are estimated by the two-zone model. But, as the value of $f_12$ increases, the air exchange between each zone increases. When the value of $f_12$ is approximately 15, the concentrations in both zone approach each other, and the entire room may be approximately treated as a single well-mixed room. Therefore, this study is available for designing of the ventilation to improve the air quality of indoor environments. Also, the two-zone model produces the theoretical base which may be extended to the theory for the multi-zone model, that will be contributed to estimate the air pollution in large enclosures, such as shopping malls, atria buildings, atria terminals, and covered sports stadia.

  • We present a multi-stage Roe-type numerical scheme for a model of two-phase flows arisen from the modeling of deflagration-to-detonation transition in granular materials. The first stage in the construction of the scheme computes the volume fraction at every time step. The second stage deals with the nonconservative terms in the governing equations which produces states on both side of the contact wave at each node. In the third stage, a Roe matrix for the two-phase is used to apply on the states obtained from the second stage. This scheme is shown to capture stationary waves and preserves the positivity of the volume fractions. Finally, we present numerical tests which all indicate that the proposed scheme can give very good approximations to the exact solution.

  • Among many optimal threshold criteria from ROC curve, the closest-to-(0,1) and amended closest-to-(0,1) criteria are considered. An ROC curve that passes close to the (0,1) point indicates that two models are well classified. In this case, the ROC curve is located far from the (1,0) point. Hence we propose two criteria: the farthest-to-(1,0) and amended farthest-to-(1,0) criteria. These criteria are found to have a relationship with the KolmogorovSmirnov statistic as well as some optimal threshold criteria. Moreover, we derive that a definition for the proposed criteria with more than two dimensions and with relations to multi-dimensional optimal threshold criteria.

  • This paper proposes a new two-stage two-phase VPP charge pump configured in such a manner that body effect and the threshold voltage loss are eliminated. The newly proposed circuit is fabricated using 0.18um triple-well CMOS process and the measurement result shows that the VPP level tracks 3VDD when VDD is above the threshold voltage.

  • Two-layer aquifer system with fractional flow dimension is composed of contiguous two layers: Layer 1 (lower layer) and Layer 2 (upper layer) with different permeability and specific storage each other. For this aquifer system, we assume that groundwater flow originates only from Layer 1 on the pumping well. The aquifer system considers wellbore storage and skin effects on the pumping well. Dimensionless drawdown curves for different flow dimensions are analyzed for different lambda (λ, crossflow coefficient) values, kappa ($textsc{k}$, permeability ratio between Layer 1 and Layer 2) values and omega ($\omega$, storativity ratio between Layer 1 and Layer 2) values. The curves for Layer 1 and Layer 2 show characteristic trend each other.
