  • Controlled tunnel blasting by deck charge was suggested and simulated by PFC and FEM analyses. Analyzed results showed that suggested method is efficient in fragmentation and able to decrease in vibration level because of decreased amount of charge per delay and dispersion of deck charge. This phenomena was explained by failure mechanism and proved that it can be successfully applied to tunnel blasting.

  • In this "Wonju~Jaecheon double-lanes railroad" project, a highway is located at about 13meter above a tunnel. Initially, rock-splitting method was used for the tunnel excavation in order to minimize the possible damage on the highway. The method, however, takes a long time for the tunnel excavation and that may cause other problems like large displacement of tunnel and subsidence of highway ground before the tunnel can be stabilized by supporters. Therefore, the application of electronic blasting method(eDdevII) was recommended to control the blast vibration below 1.0cm/sec as well as to prevent the subsidence of highway ground. The analysis of the influence of tunnel excavation on the highway showed that electric blasting method is permissible for the safe management of the highway. Based on that, the tunnel construction under a highway could be carried out quickly and safely without any damages on the highway.

  • The various alternatives to reduce the construction period and cost in the wide and long tunnel have been attempted recently. However, the concrete lining forming process after finishing tunnel excavation may delay construction period considering the specific conditions of the wide and long tunnel. The concrete lining is indispensible for the road tunnel. For this reason, the blasting-lining synchronizing study had been carried out to reduce construction period in the Gyea-Ryong Tunnel. Lining models were installed at four different distance conditions the floor of the tunnel. After model installation, hundreds of blasting vibration measurements and concrete material tests were performed to calculate the safe distance between blasting point and concrete lining form. The study also introduces a method which can obtain the better ability of construction by improving working environment with the ventilation and the relocation of tunnel equipments in the working places.

  • On the Seoul Sub-way Tunnel works (8-6 site ). Cautious blasting works were so effectivelly tarried out the vibration record were under 0.3cm /sec and blasting noise was under 75dB which was measured at the ground of house. As a result cautious blasting works under above allowable value was not influenced the structure of house and living. On the architectural survey, There were some hair crack on the wall and floors but this was not a crack from balsting work.

  • Various difficulties have been increased in the construction of public structure; like the road in the overcrowding urban area, because of civil complaint, cost and period of construction. In oder to overcome these social problems, the tunnel has been planned the road design. Despite the resolution, there are many technical problems when constructed near facilities. The design of new tunnel below the existing service reservoir is applied to the ambient vibration blasting using Plasma. The result of test blasting was exceeded the standard ("2kine"). So it was considered a countermeasure for the vibration reduction applied to change the controlled blasting method, reduce the charge, add the pre middle horizontal hole in the cut blasting site, and so on. The result was satisfied the standard. Accordingly, if the quality of blasting process can be managed well, the application of this alternative method is highly effective one. Also, based on cost analysis between two methods, the alternative method is very competitive.

  • When a bomb explodes near a tunnel, generated muck should be quickly moved outside for rehabilitation of the tunnel. In this study, the amount of muck generated by an explosion was estimated and a methodology was presented for the prediction of the muck hauling time. To this end, 3D-meshes were made by using SoildWorks and blasting analyses were performed by using AUTODYN. A method was suggested to calculate theoretically the amount of muck which inflows into a tunnel based on the relationship between the tunnel and the fragmentation zone obtained from the analysis results. Also, muck hauling times were predicted based on the selection of construction equipment and the results were compared and analyzed. As a result, it was convinced that the amount of muck flowing into the tunnel could be effectively calculated by classifying the relationship between a tunnel and the fragmentation zone into 4 cases and using the mensuration by parts. Also it was confirmed that the closer blasting location is to the portal and the excavation surface of a tunnel, and the more blasting location deviates from the center line of the tunnel, the lesser amount of muck occurs and thus the muck hauling time decreases as well.

  • Since there is 70% of the land in South Korea is forest, tunnel constructions by blasting are common for building railways and roads. The damage to the bedrock and the development of overbreak near the face of the tunnel during the blasting directly affect the safety of the tunnel and the maintenance after the construction. Therefore, there is a need to investigate the damage zone in the bedrock after the blasting. The damage zone changes the properties of the bedrock and decreases the safety. Especially, the coefficient of permeability of the damaged bedrock increases dramatically, which is considered very important in construction. There is a lack of research on the damage that bedrock is received with respect to the amount of explosives in blasting, which is required for the design of optimum support in blast excavation that maximizes the support of the bedrock. Therefore, in this research, numerical analysis was performed based on the field experiment data in order to understand the mechanical characteristics of the bedrock after to the blast load and to analyze the damage that the bedrock receives from the blast load. In addition, a method was proposed for selecting the optimum blast pressure for train tunnel design with respect to the damage zone.

  • From all of the environmental problems, blast-induced vibrations often cause concern to surrounding residents. It is often claimed that damage to building superstructures is due to blasting, and sometimes the building owner files a lawsuit against the company that perform blasting operations. The blast-vibration problem has been thoroughly investigated in the past and continues to be the subject of ongoing research. In this study, a tunnel construction has been performed by a construction company, according to their contract they must have used drilling & blasting method for excavation in tunnel inlet and outlet portal. The population is very condensed with almost tunnel below in the vicinity houses of one or two floors, typically built with stone masonry and concrete. This situation forces the company to take extreme precautions when they are designing blasts so that the blast effects, which are mainly vibration and aerial waves, do not disturb their surrounding neighbors. For this purpose, the vibration measurement and analysis have been carried out and a new methodology in minimizing the blast induced ground vibrations at the target location, was also applied. Peak particle velocity and dominant frequencies were taken into consideration in analyzing the blast-induced ground vibration. The methodology aims to employ the most suitable time delays among blast-hole groupings to render destructive interference of surface waves at the target location.

  • Generally, The way of long hole blasting is carried out in coal-face, basic excavation for dam, mine etc. Recently, this long hole blasting has been implemented in civil engineering for efficiency & economic feasibility. National express no.600 of Pusan outer high-express ${\bigcirc}$ construction site with four lanes of the length of 8km was also a site applied by long hole blasting. But After blasting, tunnel advance rate is less than 75%. As a result of that, Follow-up working time is influenced. Thereby, The total of working process is significantly so increased that planned excavation cannot be implemented many times. For not only improve excavation rate but reduce working process time in job site, we introduce blasting case which apply the ${\phi}36mm$ explosive suited for high desity of charging among long hole blasting in order to overcome mentioned problem.
