  • This paper describes implementation of the 5.0GHz RF frequency synthesizer with $0.18{\mu}m$ silicon CMOS technology being used as an application of the IEEE802.15.4 USN sensor node transceiver modules. To get good performance of speed and noise, design of the each module like VCO, prescaler, 1/N divider, fractional divider with ${\Sigma}-{\Delta}$ modulator, and common circuits of the PLL has been optimized. Especially to get good performance of speed, power consumption, and wide tuning range, N-P MOS core structure has been used in design of the VCO. The chip area including pads for testing is $1.1*0.7mm^2$, and the chip area only core for IP in SoC is $1.0*0.4mm^2$. Through comparing and analysing of the designed two kind of the frequency synthesizer, we can conclude that if we improve a litter characteristics there is no problem to use their as IPs.

  • Planar images of OH and $O_{2}$ with tunable KrF excimer laser which has a) 0.5 $cm^{-1}$ / linewidth, b) 0.5 nm tuning range, c) 150 mJ pulse energy, and d) 20 ns pulse width are obtained to determine spatial distributions of OH and $O_{2}$ in premixed $C_{3}$H$_{8}$ /O$_{2}$ flame. The technique is based on planar laser induced pre-dissociative fluorescence(PLIPF) in which collisional quenching is almost avoided because of the fast pre-dissociation. Dispersed LIPF spectra of OH and $O_{2}$ are also measured in a flame in order to confirm the excitation of single vibronic state of OH and $O_{2}$, OH and $O_{2}$ are excited on the P$_{2}$(8) line of the $A^{2}$.SIGMA.$^{+}$(v'= 3)-X$^{2}$.PI.(v'||'||'&'||'||'quot;= 0) band and R(17) line of the Schumann-Runge band B$^{3}$.SIGMA.$_{u}$ $^{[-10]}$ (v'= 0)- X$^{3}$.SIGMA.$_{g}$ $^{[-10]}$ (v'||'||'&'||'||'quot;= 6), respectively. Dispersed OH and $O_{2}$ spectra show an excellent agreement with simulated spectrum and previous works done by other group respectively. It is confirmed that OH widely distributed around flame front area than $O_{2}$.

  • In this paper, a novel split ring resonator is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator. Oscillator using proposed split ring resonator is designed, it has improved phase noise characteristics. At the fundamental frequency of 5.8GHz, 7.22dBm output power and -83.5 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with split ring resonator. The phase noise characteristics of oscillator is improved about 9.7dB compared to one using the general ${\lambda}/4$ microstrip resonator. Next, we designed voltage controlled oscillator using proposed split ring resonator with varactor diode. The VCO has 125MHz tuning range from 5.833GHz to 5.845GHz, and phase noise characteristic is -118~-115.5 dBc/Hz@100KHz. Due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.

  • In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy-neuro controller to control the speed of wound rotor induction motor with slip energy recovery. The speed is limited at some range of sub-synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field. Control speed by adjusting resistance value in the rotor circuit that occurs the efficiency of power are reduced, because of the slip energy is lost when it passes through the rotor resistance. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of motor. Recently, the emergence of artificial neural networks has made it conductive to integrate fuzzy controllers and neural models for the development of fuzzy control systems, Fuzzy-neuro controller has been designed by integrating two neural network models with a basic fuzzy logic controller. Using the back propagation algorithm, the first neural network is trained as a plant emulator and the second neural network is used as a compensator for the basic fuzzy controller to improve its performance on-line. The function of the neural network plant emulator is to provide the correct error signal at the output of the neural fuzzy compensator without the need for any mathematical modeling of the plant. The difficulty of fine-tuning the scale factors and formulating the correct control rules in a basic fuzzy controller may be reduced using the proposed scheme. The scheme is applied to the control speed of a wound rotor induction motor process. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of motor and compensate power factor of system. That is: the proposed controller gives the controlled system by keeping the speed constant and the good transient response without overshoot can be obtained.

  • Rayleigh scattering and laser induced predissociative fluorescence are used to obtain two-dimensional images of temperature and species concentration in a laminar non-premixed flame of a diluted hydrogen jet. Rayleigh scattering cross-sections are experimentally obtained at 248nm. Planar images of OH and $O_2$ with tunable KrF excimer laser which has a) $0.5cm^{-1}$ linewidth, b) 0.5nm tuning range, c) 150mJ pulse energy, and d) 20ns pulse width are obtained to determine spatial distributions of OH and $O_2$. The technique is based on planar laser induced predissociative fluorescence (PLIPF) in which collisional quenching is almost avoided because of the fast predissociation. Dispersed LIPF spectra of OH and $O_2$ are also measured in a flame in order to confirm the excitation of single vibronic state of OH and $O_2$. OH and $O_2$ are excited on the $P_2$(8) and $Q_1$(11) line of the $A^2{\Sigma}^{+}({\nu}^{'}=3)-X^{2}{\Pi}({\nu}^{''}=o)$ band and R(17) line of the Schumann-Runge band $B^{3}{\Sigma}_{u}{^-}(\nu^{'}=0)-X^{3}{\Sigma}_{g}{^-}({\nu}^{''}=6)$, respectively. Fluorescence spectra of OH and Hot $O_2$ are captured and two-dimensional images of the hydrogen flame field are successfully visualized.

  • In this paper, we propose the design and fabrication on high frequency CMOS VCO for DS-UWB(Direct-Sequence Ultra-WideBand) applications using 0.18 ${\mu}m$ process. The complementary cross-coupled LC oscillator architecture which is composed of PMOS, NMOS symmetrically, is designed for improving the phase noise characteristic. The resistor is used instead of current source that reduce the 1/f noise of current source. The high-speed buffer is needed for measuring the output characteristic of VCO using spectrum analyzer, therefore the high-speed inverter buffer is designed with VCO. A fabricated core VCO size is $340{\mu}m{\times}535{\mu}m$. The VCO is tunable between 7.09 and 7.52 GHz and has a phase noise lower than -107 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset over entire tuning range. The measured harmonic suppression is 32 dB. The VCO core circuit draws 2.0 mA from a 1.8 V supply.

  • In the last decades, valuable results have been reported regarding conventional passive, active, semi-active, and hybrid structural control systems on two-dimensional and a few three-dimensional shear buildings. In this research, using a three-dimensional finite element model of high-rise concrete structures, designed by performance based plastic design method, it was attempted to construct a relatively close to reality model of concrete structures equipped with Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) by considering the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI), torsion effect, hysteresis behavior and cracking effect of concrete. In contrast to previous studies which have focused mainly on linearly designed structures, in this study, using performance-based plastic design (PBPD) design approach, nonlinear behavior of the structures was considered from the beginning of the design stage. Inelastic time history analysis on a detailed model of twenty-story concrete structure was performed under a far-field ground motion record set. The seismic responses of the structure by considering SSI effect are studied by eight main objective functions that are related to the performance of the structure, containing: lateral displacement, acceleration, inter-story drift, plastic energy dissipation, shear force, number of plastic hinges, local plastic energy and rotation of plastic hinges. The tuning problem of TMD based on tuned mass spectra is set by considering five of the eight previously described functions. Results reveal that the structural damage distribution range is retracted and inter-story drift distribution in height of the structure is more uniform. It is strongly suggested to consider the effect of SSI in structural design and analysis.

  • We report on the development of a new technology for the fabrication of Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System (MEMS) strain sensors to realize a novel type of crackmeter for health monitoring of ageing civil infrastructures. The fabrication of micromachined silicon MEMS sensors based on a Silicon On Insulator (SOI) technology, designed according to a Double Ended Tuning Fork (DETF) geometry is presented, using a novel process which includes a gap narrowing procedure suitable to fabricate sensors with low motional resistance. In order to employ these sensors for crack monitoring, techniques suited for bonding the MEMS sensors on a steel surface ensuring good strain transfer from steel to silicon and a packaging technique for the bonded sensors are proposed, conceived for realizing a low-power crackmeter for ageing infrastructure monitoring. Moreover, the design of a possible crackmeter geometry suited for detection of crack contraction and expansion with a resolution of $10{\mu}m$ and very low power consumption requirements (potentially suitable for wireless operation) is presented. In these sensors, the small crackmeter range for the first field use is related to long-term observation on existing cracks in underground tunnel test sections.

  • In this paper, a small double ring resonator reflector was designed and fabricated using a polymer waveguide, and the measurement result was discussed. A widely tunable characteristic of the small double ring resonator caused by the Vernier effect, which results from the difference of the ring radii, was observed. The insertion loss of the double ring reflector was reduced by minimizing the device length to be as short as possible, and thus the output power and the SMSR (side mode suppression ratio) was greatly enhanced. The hybrid integrated laser based on the small double ring resonator reflector lased with the SMSR of 45 dB. In addition, the wide tuning range of 40 nm could be obtained by injecting a current of 30 mA to an electrode on top of the reflector.
