  • In EBCOT, the context extraction process takes excessive calculation time and this paper proposed a method to reduce this calculation time. That is, if a coefficient is less than a pre-defined threshold value the coefficient and its descendents skip the context extraction process. There is a trade-off relationship between the calculation time and the image quality or the amount of output data such that as this threshold value increases, the calculation time and the amount of output data decreases, but the image degradation increases. Therefore, by deciding this threshold value according to the network environments or conditions, it is possible to establish a network-adaptive context extraction method. The experimental results showed that the range of the threshold values for acceptable image quality(better than 30dB) is from 0 to 4. The experimental results showed that in this range the Resulting reduction rate in calculation time was from $3\%\;to\;64\%$ in average, the reduction rate in output data was from $32\%$ to $73\%$ in average, which means that large reduction in calculation time and output data can be obtained with a cost of an acceptable image quality degradation. Therefore, the proposed method is expected to be used efficiently in the application area such as the real-time image/video data communication in wireless environments, etc.

  • Increasing number of companies recognize that the understanding of customers and their markets is indispensable for their survival and business success. The companies are rapidly increasing the amount of investments to develop customer databases which is the basis for the database marketing activities. Database marketing is closely related to data mining. Data mining is the non-trivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown and potentially useful knowledge or patterns from large data. Data mining applied to database marketing can make a great contribution to reinforce the company's competitiveness and sustainable competitive advantages. This paper develops the classification model to select the most responsible customers from the customer databases for telemarketing system and evaluates the performance of the developed model using LIFT measure. The model employs the decision tree algorithm, i.e., CHAID which is one of the well-known data mining techniques. This paper also represents the effective database marketing strategy by applying the data mining technique to a credit card company's telemarketing system.

  • This paper presents a method for point-based 3D building reconstruction using LiDAR data and digital map. The proposed method consists of three processes: extraction of building roof points, identification of roof types, and 3D building reconstruction. After extracting points inside the polygon of building, the ground surface, wall and tree points among the extracted points are removed through the filtering process. The filtered points are then fitted into the flat plane using ODR(Orthogonal Distance Regression). If the fitting error is within the predefined threshold, the surface is classified as a flat roof. Otherwise, the surface is fitted and classified into a gable or arch roof through RMSE analysis. Based on the roof types identified in automated fashion, the 3D building reconstruction is performed. Experimental results showed that the proposed method classified successfully three different types of roof and that the fusion of LiDAR data and digital map could be a feasible method of modelling 3D building reconstruction.

  • In this paper. a way to analysis a corridor scene for a vehicle's automatic locomotion is presented In general, it's necessary for a vision system of vehicles to identify its positions in given environments. The suggested algorithm is to decide base lines of a corridor image using the vanishing point finding. Feature points are extracted on the base line using a base line extraction tree. This algorithm is suitable for a motorized wheelchair's self locomotion in a building.

  • This paper proposes a new watermarking algorithm to embed watermarks in thr process of sample adaptive offsets (SAO) for high efficiency video coding (HEVC) compressed videos. The proposed method embeds two-bit watermark into the SAO offsets for each coding tree unit (CTU). To minimize visual quality degradation caused by embedding watermark, watermark bits are embedded into SAO offset depending on the SAO types of block. Furthermore, the embedded watermark can be extracted by simply adding four offsets and checking their least significant bits (LSB) at the decoder side. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves 0.3% BD-rate increase without much visual quality degradation. Two-bit watermark for each CTU is embedded for more bit watermarking. In addition, the proposed method requires negligible computational load for watermark insertion and extraction.

  • Although many content-based image retrieval systems using shape feature have tried to cover rotation-, position- and scale-invariance between images, there have been problems to cover three kinds of variance at the same time. In this paper, we introduce new approach to extract shape feature from image using MBR(Minimum Bounding Rectangle). The proposed method scans image for extracting MBR information and, based on MBR information, compute contour information that consists of 16 points. The extracted information is converted to specific values by normalization and rotation. The proposed method can cover three kinds of invariance at the same time. We implemented our method and carried out experiments. We constructed R*_tree indexing structure, perform k-nearest neighbor search from query image, and demonstrate the capability and usefulness of our method.

  • From the view point of data fusion, we integrate LIDAR data and digital aerial images to perform 3D building modeling in this study. The proposed scheme comprises two major parts: (1) building block extraction and (2) building model reconstruction. In the first step, height differences are analyzed to detect the above ground areas. Color analysis is then performed for the exclusion of tree areas. Potential building blocks are selected first followed by the refinement of building areas. In the second step, through edge detection and extracting the height information from LIDAR data, accurate 3D edges in object space is calculated. The accurate 3D edges are combined with the already developed SMS method for building modeling. LIDAR data acquired by Leica ALS 40 in Hsin-Chu Science-based Industrial Park of north Taiwan will be used in the test.
