The Study of Crowd Movement in Stair and Turnstile of Subway Station (지하철 역사에서의 계단 및 개찰구 군중흐름에 관한 연구)

  • Most of subway stations are located underground and the number of passengers is far more than that of designed value, therefore the risk of accident is growing bigger and serious damage is expected in case of disaster. In Korea the period of evacuation study is short and numerical and experimental data of evacuation phenomena in subway station is rare. Many egress evaluation depend on foreign commercial S/Ws which are not yet proven its availability in special case such as subway station. In this paper outflow coefficients which are essential in egress evaluation are calculated at train door, stairway and turnstile at 3 most crowed subway stations. This numerical data can be used in prediction of egress evaluation and the result of other prediction methods can be verified with these experimental data.

  • Presently metro in our country has higher rate of passengers as a public transportation of urban area than other transportations. And road is under very restrictive condition to be expanded in many aspects because the streets are completely choked. Therefore increase of capacity in metro and reduction of headway has been seriously required and utmost efforts has been taken by related fields to meet the requirements.   • As the ticket issuing methods have been diversified for the convenience of the passengers such as ticketless service(SMS ticket, e-ticket, home ticket), automatic ticket issuing machine and consignment ticket sale, maintaining the current number of ticket booth has been becoming a issue. This study is designed to simulation for the optimum number of ticket booth and which can affect an efficient operation of train station and improvement of customer convenience. This study is proceeding and will contribute to minimize customer waiting time at the ticket booth. In addition, presenting the optimum number of booth is expected to have an effect on the increase of productivity and cost savings.

  • All electric trains in the city should be run without any troubles of the equipments in order to offer good services to the passengers. But some breakdowns occur when they are operated due to the long time uses. There are mechanical troubles and electrical troubles included reactors. Most of them, the reason of the troubles can be found out easily after breakdown. But it is difficult to find out the reasons of the reactor troubles which disappear after operation. The reactors of the train filter the current which supplied from electrical lines and supply the current to the inverter and block the ripple of the current. Partial discharge occur from the reactor by the heat. accordingly, If the signals of discharge were perceived, it could be anticipate the deterioration degree of insulation. In this paper, on-monitoring system for reactor's troubles in trains is established and the output results of monitoring system are investigated.

  • Urban railway carries large numbers of passengers during the rush hour. According to the announcement of Ministry of Land Transport and Maritime Affairs(MLTM), 221% of the congestion rate is reported in the SeoulMetro No.2 outer circle line from sadang to bangbea between eight and nine o'clock in the morning. This study analyzes the cause of the client's dissatisfaction about SeoulMetro such as the train delay, and decides the preference rank of the alternatives for congestion alleviation and enhancement of the transport capacity using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP).

  • Since the KTX start its service on April 1st of 2004, KTX increased its share up to 17.4% (2008). It's the 2nd after the passenger car share of 59.2% in the national transportation, but the gap is still wide. In addition, because of the rise of goods' and oil price, the share of intercity express bus is growing up. Nevertheless Korail is trying to improve the train schedule and develop internodal transit system, the number of passengers of KTX is remain flat.   • The Korean high speed railroad is scheduled to open in 2004. For railroad-based integrated transfer system, it is essential to develop the intermodal information system for easy transfer to other travel modes. The understanding of mode choices by KTX passengers is crucial for the intermodal transportation planning. Recent development of Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS) made it possible for railroad users to access the transportation information in a cabin or waiting areas at the station. Development of intermodal transportation information system will influence the relative demand for traveling by train from competing other transportation modes. The research is focused on a general overview of the ITS with an emphasis on intermodal transportation information system.

  • Recently, there are many problems of service qualities such as regular-rapid-safe -comfortable transport, that was traditionally advantages in urban railway transportations. These problems cause train delays that affects consecutive schedule, capacity, operation plans, and it is hard to prevent the propagation of delay and find the recovery solution. Because the urban transport demands is continuously increased and the railway service is also expanded, the railway operation company makes efforts to improve operation performance and efficiency for passengers. In this paper, we analyse the issues and problems existing in the major operation line of high-density urban railways, and suggest the development direction of intelligent operation technology to improve the urban railway service by minimizing the occurrence and propagation of delay. And the result of numerical case study is also presented.

  • The vertical slope of railway track is the differences of attitude for the horizontal distances between two positions of railway. It is better to be small vertical slope for the comfortable of passengers and the operation of railway system. However, the variable vertical slope is required that the simple vertical slope causes the huge quantities of embankment and cutting, the continuous welded rail tunnels, the continuous welded rail bridges, etc,. This research is for the relation between the vertical slopes and the trainset performances. This research shows that the effective vertical slopes for the operation of railway. The velocity of car and operation time and the consumed energy was considered for each vertical slope and type of car power system. The result of suitable vertical slope from this research is to be used for the design of railway plan.
