  • This study is to analyze the impact of automotive body with computer simulation. The total deformation, equivalent strain and strain and principal stress are analyzed respectively in case of front, rear and side impacts. The maximum total deformation of side impact is more than 6 times as large as that of rear impact. The maximum equivalent strain or stress of side impact is more than 4 times as large as that of rear impact. These deformation, strain and stress of front impact are a little more than those of rear impact. The maximum principal stress of side impact is more than 4.5 times as large as that of rear impact. This stress of front impact is a little more than that of rear impact.

  • The press cutter is productive equipment that practically manufactures materials such as fabrics, papers, films, leathers, rubbers etc. into the desired shapes using cutting method. Plate cutting process is one of the primary energy absorbing mechanisms in a grounding or collision event. The cutting mechanism is complicated and involves plastic flow of plate in the vicinity of the tip, friction between wedge and plate, deformation of plate. In this paper, we studied the effect of friction between cutter and plastic sheet for producing precise and superior products. The press cutter is analyzed numerically using MARC finite element program according to the variation of friction coefficients. The FEM results showed that normal stress, equivalent cauchy stress, normal total strain, equivalent total strain are good when friction coefficient is 0.0 and shear stress, shear total strain are good when friction coefficient is 0.8.

  • This paper was carried out to investigate the existence of a unique stress- strain behavior by obtaining some factors influencing the time dependent stress- strain behavior of clay. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows ; 1. The relationship between stress ratro and strain in normally consolidated clay was in- dependent on pre-shear consolidation pressure. Therefore, shear strain could be expressed as a function with stress ratio. 2. The constitutive equation of shear strain on Modified Carn Clay Model coincided better with the observed value than Cam Clay Model. 3. The relationships between deviator stress and shear strain, between pore water pressure and shear strain were unified by the mean equivalent pressure. 4. The shear strain contour in norrnally consolidated clay was increased linearly through origin, but that in overconsolidated clay was not in accordance with the result of the former. 5. Because the effective stress path of normally consolidated clay was unified by the mean equivalent pressure, state boundary surface in (e,p,q) space was transformed into two dimensional surface. But it was considered to be suitable that the unified stress- strain in overconsolidated clay be expressed by a function with overconsolidation ratio. 6. The deviator for constant strain was increased linearly with increment of strain rate ($\varepsilon$) on semi-log scale, but pore water pressure was decreased. 7. The behavior of stress relaxation was transformed from linear to curvilinear with inc - rement of strain rate before stress relaxation test, and pore water pressure was increased in total range. 8. The strain of creep was increased linearly with increment of time on semi-log scale. The greater the strain rate before creep test became, the greater the increment of strain of creep became. And the pore water pressure during creep test was increased generally with increment of time on semi-log scale.

  • By examining the fatigue deformation properties of 12% Cr rotor steel which has been proved to have high fatigue and creep rupture strength around 600deg. C, authors reviewed major fatigue life prediction models such as Manson, Langer and Morrow equations, and following results were obtained. (1) A simple life prediction model for 12% Cr rotor steel was obtained as follows : DELTA..epsilon.$_{t}$ =2.18+.sigma.$_{u}$ /E+ $N^{-0.065}$+ $e^{0.6}$ $N^{-0.025}$ This equation shows that fatigue life, N, can be easily determined when total strain range, DELTA..epsilon.$_{t}$ and ultimate tensile strength, .sigma.$_{u}$ are known by simple tension test on the given test conditions. (2) Life prediction equation with equivalent maximum stress, DELTA..sigma./2, corresponding maximum strain in one cycle at room temperature is as follows: DELTA..sigma./w=-7.01logN+96.69+96.69

  • This paper is an experimental study on the flexural strength and ductility capacity of reinforced high performance concrete beams with the concrete which has compressive strength of 600~700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, slump value of 20~25cm and slump-flow value of 60~70cm. Total 8 beams with different tensile reinforcement ratio and pattern of loading were tested. Form the results of reinforced high performance concrete beams, the equivalent stress block parameters proposed by MacGregor et al. or New Zealand code are recommended to use. Also, an extreme fiber concrete compressive strain of reinforced high performance concrete beams are distributed 0.0033~0.0048. In reinforced high performance concrete beams, reinforcement ratio in order to insure curvature ductility index 2 and 4 propose by ACI code should be less than those of reinforced normal strength concrete beams.

  • Fatigue behavior and life prediction method were presented for themal-mechanical and isothermal low cycle fatigue of 12 Cr forged steel used for high temperature applications. In-phase and out-of-phase thermal-mechanical fatigue test from 350 .deg. C to 600 .deg. C and isothermal low cycle fatigue test at 600 .deg. C, 475 .deg. C, 350 .deg. C were conducted using smooth cylindrical hollow specimen under strain-control with total strain ranges from 0.006 to 0.015. The phase difference between temperature and strain in thermal-mechanical fatigue resulted in significantly shorter fatigue life for out-of-phase than for in-phase. Thermal-mechanical fatigue life predication was made by partitioning the strain ranges of the hysteresis loops and the results of isothermal low cycle fatigue tests which were performed under the combination of slow and fast strain rates. Predicted fatigue lives for out-of-phase using the strain range partitioning method showed an excellent agreement with the actual out-of-phase thermal-mechanical fatigue lives within a factor of 1.5. Conventional strain range partitioning method exhibited a poor accuracy in the prediction of in-phase range partitioning method in a conservative way. By the way life prediction of thermal-mechanical fatigue by Taira's equivalent temperature method and spanning fartor method showed good agreement within out-of-phase thermal-mechanical fatigue.

  • This paper presents contact behavior of an Polyperfluoroalkoxyethylene(PTFE) ring seals by a non-linear finite element method using the thermomechanical analysis. PTFE elastomer was assumed as odgen model for numerical analysis in FEM commercial code because elastomer has nonlinear behaviour character. The shape effects are investigated for sealing performance of ring seal in boundary conditions which as gas pressure, groove temperature and various O-ring seal models. Also contact stress and equivalent total strain are investicated. An O-ring seals was modeled four shape which are circle, two sunflower and X. The highest contact stress occurs at sunflower-ring seal with groove deapth of 0.35mm. the equivalent total strain of sunflower-ring seal is lower than that of the others under low gas pressure condition but under gas pressure condition over 4Mpa, that of sunflower-ring seal is higher. The calculated FEM results shows that the Sunflower-ring seal with groove depth of 0.35mm has excellent performance compared with other seal models.

  • In this paper, the effects of solder joint aging on the reliability of embedded package solder joints were investigated using numerical analysis by finite element method. Solder joints were SAC305 with aging time 0, 60, 180 days. For reliability analysis, warpage of package and equivalent creep strain (ECS) and total strain energy density (TSED) of solder joint were analyzed. The analysis results show that the package warpage is decreased in the case of the embedded package compared to the non embedded package, and the reliability life of the solder joint is predicted to be high. Also, it was interpreted that the longer the aging time, the less the warpage of the embedded package, but the reliability life of the solder joint would be shortened.

  • Earthquake response analyses are conducted for the investigation of the ground shaking during the 1995 Hyogoken-nambu earthquake. Port Island a man made island with about 8{{{{ KAPPA m^2 }} area is chosen for this purpose Because earthquake measurement with vertical array was conducted there. Strain dependent characteristics of soil can be modeled well into Hardin-Drnevich Model. Four analyses are conducted : total stress analysis by equivalent linear method non-linear method. and two effective stress analyses. All analyses except equivalent linear analysis show fairy good agreement with observed record mainly because the non-linear behavior of Holocene clay layer has predominant effect on the behavior of fill, However detailed investigation show that effective stress analyses give much better prediction than total stress analyses.

  • This study describes the 3D design and analysis of a composite insulation boom of an aerial work platform for electric work. Structural analysis of the composite insulation boom was performed using ANSYS and the total deformation, equivalent stress, and normal elasticity were investigated at 150 mm, 500 mm, 1,000 mm, and 1,500 mm using a mounted strain gauge. The results of the analysis and test were similar in a linearly increasing slope and the difference in the strain value was about 10%. This difference depends on the compressive force in the manufacturing process.
