We propose an adaptive non-singular terminal sliding-mode control for the fast finite-time convergence (FANTSMC) in robot manipulator. The proposed FANTSMC approach is developed to be applied without singularity in robot manipulator, which has a new pole-placement control with the non-singular terminal sliding variable while generating the desirable control torque. Moreover, the switching gain is designed to suppress the time-delayed estimation error appropriately, which aims at providing the high robust tracking performance. Also, the proposed one employs one-sample delayed information to cancel out the system uncertainties and disturbances. For these reasons, it offers strong attraction within the finite time. It is shown that the tracking performance of the proposed FANTSMC approach is guaranteed to be uniformly ultimately bounded through the Lyapunov stability. The effectiveness of the proposed FANTSMC approach is illustrated in simulations, which is compared with that of the up-to-date control approach.

The effect of load is an important factor in precise speed control of a motor. n this study, we design a state observer that can estimate and define one state of disturbance including errors and nonlinear terms of mathematical models, which is not easy with a mathematical model. Then, the observation gain is set so that the estimation error of the state observation converges to 0, and the estimated state is used in the back stepping controller to design a controller capable of precise speed tracking. As a result of applying to 1 [hw] class Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, excellent stste variable observation and tracking performance can be confirmed.

A ship's propulsion shafting system is subjected to varying magnitudes of intermittent loadings that pose great risks such as failure. Consequently, the dynamic characteristic of a propulsion shafting system must be designed to withstand the resonance that occurs during operation. This resonance results from hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and fluid. For ice-class vessels, this interaction takes place between the propeller and ice. Producing load- and resonance-induced stresses, the propeller-ice interaction is the primary source of excitation, making it a major focus in the design requirements of propulsion shafting systems. This paper examines the transient torsional vibration response of the propulsion shafting system of an ice-class research vessel. The propulsion train is composed of an electric motor, flexible coupling, spherical gears, and a propeller configuration. In this paper, the theoretical analysis of transient torsional vibration and propeller-ice interaction loading is first discussed, followed by an explanation of the actual transient torsional vibration measurements. Measurement data for the analysis were compared with an applied estimation factor for the propulsion shafting design torque limit, and they were evaluated using an existing international standard. Addressing the transient torsional vibration of a propulsion shafting system with an electric motor, this paper also illustrates the influence of flexible coupling stiffness design on resulting resonance. Lastly, the paper concludes with a proposal to further study the existence of negative torque on a gear train and its overall effect on propulsion shafting systems.

This study examined a brake pad wear compensation method for an Electro-Mechanical Brake (EMB) using the braking test device. A three-phase Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) was applied to drive the actuator of an EMB. Current control, speed control, and position control were used to control the clamping force of the EMB. The wear compensation method was performed using a software algorithm that updates the motor model equation by comparing the motor output torque current with a reference current. In addition, a simple first-order motor model equation was applied to estimate the output clamping force. The operation time to the maximum clamping force increased within 0.1 seconds compared to the brake pad in its initial condition. The experiment verified that the reference operating time was within 0.5 seconds, and the maximum value of the clamping force was satisfied under the wear condition. The wear compensation method based on the software algorithm in this paper can be performed in the pre-departure test of rolling stock.
This paper proposes a novel airfoil named "KA2" for the blade of the wind turbine systems. Dynamic loads characteristics are analyzed and compared using aerodynamic data of ten airfoils including the proposed airfoil. The blade is divided into the sixteen elements in the longitudinal direction of the blade for applying the Blade Element Method Theory (BEMT) method, and in each element, torque, thrust, and pitching moment are calculated using turbulent time varying wind speed and aerodynamic data of each wing. Additionally, each force and torque is accumulated in the whole region of the blade for the estimation of representative values. The magnitude of such forces is comparatively analyzed for different airfoils. The angle of attack is constant below the rated wind speed due to the fact that the tip speed ratio is kept at the constant value, and it increases in the region of over rated wind speed as the tip speed ratio decreasing with constant rated rpm and increasing wind speed. Such increase in the angle of attack causes the changes of the force acting on the airfoil with different characteristics of lift and drag in the stall region of each different airfoil. Even though the mean wind speed is in the rated speed in a given time, because of the turbulence, it has either the over rated or under rated speed most of the time. Furthermore, the dynamic properties of each force are analyzed in this rated wind speed in order to objectively understand the dynamic properties of the blades which are designed based on the different airfoils. These dynamic properties are also compared by the standard deviation of time varying characteristics. Moreover, the output characteristics of the wind turbine are investigated with different airfoils and wind speeds. Based on these investigations, it was revealed that the proposed airfoil (KA2) is well applicable to the blade with passive pitch control system.

The conventional fixed gain PI controller is very sensitive to step change of command speed, parameter variation and load disturbances. The precise speed control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drive becomes a complex issue due to nonlinear coupling among its winding currents and the rotor speed as well as the nonlinear electromagnetic developed torque. Therefore, there exists a need to tune the PI controller parameters on-line to ensure optimum drive performance over a wide range of operating conditions. This paper proposes hybrid intelligent-PI(HIPI) controller of IPMSM drive using adaptive learning mechanism(ALM) and fuzzy neural network(FNN). The proposed controller is developed to ensure accurate speed control of IPMSM drive under system disturbances and estimation of speed using artificial neural network(ANN) controller. The PI controller parameters are optimized by ALM-FNN at all possible operating condition in a closed loop vector control scheme, The validity of the proposed controller is verified by results at different dynamic operating conditions.

This paper describes the evaluation of shield TBM disc cutter penetration depth in practice. In this study the disc cutter penetration depth used to design the excavation speed of tunnel is reviewed. The characteristics of ground encountered in the investigation site are analysed and evaluated. The shield TBM used in the field is reviewed to verify the applicability of machine in the site. The thrust and torque capacities of each TBM disc cutter are also evaluated. Based on the field data, the excavation volume and speed are re-analysed to evaluate the disc cutter penetration depth used in the design stage. It is clearly found that the design value of disc cutter penetration depth needs to modify when estimation of the TBM capacities in very hard rock formation ($S_c$ >150 MPa).

This paper presents an adaptive feedback linearization control scheme for induction motors with simultaneous variation of rotor and stator resistances. Two typical modeling techniques, rotor flux model and stator flux model, have been developed and successfully applied to the controller design and adaptive observer design, respectively. By using stator fluxes as states, over-parametrization in adaptive control can be prevented and control strategy can be developed without the need of nonlinear transformation. It also decrease the relative degree for the flux modulus by one, thereby, yielding, a simple control algorithm. However, when this method is used for flux observer, it cannot guarantee the convergence of flux. Similarly, the rotor flux model may be appropriate for observers, but it is not so for adaptive controllers. In addition, if these two existing methods are merged into overall adaptive control system, it brings about structural complexies. In this paper, we did not use these two modeling methods, and opted for the airgap flux model which takes on only the positive aspects of the existing rotor flux model and stator flux model and prevents structural complexity from occuring. Through theoretical analysis by using Lyapunov's direct method, simulations, and actual experiments, it is shown that stator and rotor resistances converge to their actual values, flux is well estimated, and torque and flux are controlled independently with the measurements of rotor speed, stator currents, and stator voltages. These results were achieved under the persistent excitation condition, which is shown to hold in the simulation.

Hydrodynamic aspects on three-dimensional effects were investigated in this study for simple and convenient conversion of tidal stream energy using a Vertical-Axis Turbine (VAT). Numerical approach was made to reveal the differences of flow physics between 2-D estimation and rigorous 3-D simulation. It was shown that the 3-D effects were dominant mainly due to the variation of tip vortices around the tip region of rotor blade, causing the loss of lift for steadily translating hydrofoil and the reduction of torque for rotating turbine blade. The 3-D effect was found to be rather prominent for the typical VATs considered in this paper. Simple and yet efficient 2-D approach with the correction of its three-dimensionality was also proposed for practical design and analysis of VAT.

Electro-mechanical actuator installed on aircraft consists of a decelerator which magnifies the torque in order to rotate an axis connected with aircraft control surface, a control section which controls the motor assembly through receiving orders from cockpit and a motor assembly which rotates the decelerator. Electro-mechanical actuator controls aircraft altitude, position, landing, takeoff, etc. It is an important part of a aircraft. Aircraft maneuvering causes vibrations to electro-mechanical actuator. Vibrations may result in structural fatigue. For that reason, it is necessary to analyze the system structural safety. In order to analyze the system structural safety. It is needed reasonable finite element model and structural response stress closed to real value. In this paper, analytic model is derived by using the simplified finite element model, and damping ratio which is closely related to response stress is derived by using modal test. So, we developed analytic model in less than 10 % error rate, compared with modal test. Vibration response stress close to real value was estimated from analytic model modified with modal experimental damping ratio. Estimation method for damping ratio with empirical formula was suggested partly. Finally, It was proved that electro-mechanical actuator had reasonable structure margin of safety at environmental random $3{\sigma}$ stress during life cycle.
