This study conducted pilot mapping project to know the possibility of mapping with medium resolution satellite imageries. For this purpose, mapping experiments were conducted with each stereo model imageries of SPOT, KOMPSAT, and IRS- lC. And positional accuracy, analysis of detectable and describable features, and comparison with existing digital map were checked, possible mapping scale and cost analysis were conducted with these results. Regarding SPOT imagery, digital photogrammetric workstation was used for stereoplotting. Regarding KOMPSAT and IRS-lC imageries, because there were data format support problems. head-up digitizing was performed with ortho imageries rectified with DEMs generated by image matching. The results of experiments show that such features as wide road, river, coast line, etc are possible to detect and depict but many other features are not for SPOT, KOMPSAT, and IRS-lC imageries. On the aspect of mapping, therefore, SPOT is available for 1/50,000 topographic map revision, KOMPSAT and IRS-lC for 1/25.000 topographic map revision.

This study investigated and analyzed the topographic landscape resources of Mureung Valley in Donghae-si from the viewpoint of geotourism in order to suggest the tourism contents and tour course. A total of 29 topographic landscapes were observed; these are broadly divided into 4 features including weathering landform, mountainous landform, fluvial landform, and structural landform. Major topographies are fluvial landform (13) and weathering landform (12). At least 19 topographies (14 sites, 19 topographic landscapes) are currently used as tourism resources, with 10 topographies having potential to be developed as new tourism resources. The 10 topographic landscapes are as follows: (1) Jamryong Bawi (Hidden Dragon Rock), (2) Janggipan Bawi (Korean Chessboard Rock), (3) Nurungji Bawi (Parched Rice Rock), (4) Damjang Bawi (Fence Rock), (5) Gyedan Bawi (Stairs Rock), (6) Heundeul Bawi (Rocking Rock), (7) Jeopsi Bawi (Dish Rock), (8) Dol Umul (Stone Well), (9) Jogak Bawi (Carved Rock), and (10) Dubu Bawi (Topu Rock). The topographic tour course can be divided into 3 routes considering accessibility and time. Route 1 is a basic one that anyone can easily use; Route 2 and 3 can be used by visitors who have more time to spare or who are more active.
This is an experimental study to translate the Korean digital topographic maps into distributable information-hide objects, which are designed with object-oriented development's key features ; encapsulation, polymorphism, inheritance, In order to achieve this goal , the characteristics of the data mode and inter-relationships of digital topographic maps are investigated . As a result, it is revealed that the current Korean digital topographic maps, which is organized into so many individual layers of mixed spatial and attributed data, have to explicit and concrete hierarchies in spatial data model and data definition . Due to this limitation , data layer stage and object class stage are integrated. And ISCO(the is-computer -of relationships) mechanism is mainly used to develop the objects of digital topogrpahic maps, which is implemented with spatial primitive classes. the designed objects are coded with JAVA and then testified in web interface.
A seafloor curvature measurement method was developed to extract redundant topographic features from the multi-beam bathymetry data, and then applied to the data of abyssal plain area in the Pacific. Any seafloor might be modeled to a quadratic surface determined in a linear least squares sense, and its curvature could be derived from the eigen values related with quadratic model parameters. The curvature's magnitude as well as polarity showed distinct relationship with geometric characteristics of the seafloor like as ridge and valley. From the investigation of curvature's variation with the number of data in the quadratic surface, the optimal size of data aperture could be applied to real bathymetry data. The application to real data also required the determination of the accompanying threshold values to cope with corresponding topographic features. The calculation method of previous studies were reported to be sensitive to the background noise. The improved curvature measurement method, incorporating the sum of eigen values has reduced unwanted artifacts and enhanced ability to extract lineament features along strike direction. The result of application shows that the curvature measurement method is effective tool for the estimation of a possible mining area in the seamount free abyssal hill area.

We describe the design and the implementation of video-rate reflection confocal scanning microscopy (CSM) using an acousto-optical deflector (AOD) for the fast horizontal scan and a galvanometer mirror (GM) for the slow vertical scan. Design parameters of the optical system are determined for optimal resolution and contrast. The OSLO simulations show that the performances of CSM are not changed with deflection angle and the wavefront errors of the system are less than 0.012λ. To evaluate the performances of designed CSM, we do a series of tests, measuring lateral and axial resolution, real time image acquisition. Due to a higher axial resolution compared with conventional microscopy, CSM can detect the surface of sub-micrometer features. We detect 138㎚ line shape pattern with a video-rate (30 frm/sec). And 10㎚ axial resolution is archived. The lateral resolution of the topographic images will be further enhanced by differential confocal microscopy (DCM) method and computational algorithms.
Udo Rhodolith Beach is a small-scale, mixed sand-and-gravel beach embayed on the N-S trending rocky coast of Udo, Jeju Island, South Korea. This study analyzes the short-term topographic changes of the beach during the extreme storm conditions of four typhoons from 2016 to 2020: Chaba (2016), Soulik (2018), Lingling (2019), and Maysak (2020). The analysis uses the topographic data of terrestrial LiDAR scanning and drone photogrammetry, aided by weather and oceanographic datasets of wind, wave, current and tide. The analysis suggests two contrasting features of alongshore topographic change depending on the typhoon pathway, although the intensity and duration of the storm conditions differed in each case. During the Soulik and Lingling events, which moved northward following the western sea of the Jeju Island, the northern part of the beach accreted while the southern part eroded. In contrast, the Chaba and Maysak events passed over the eastern sea of Jeju Island. The central part of the beach was then significantly eroded while sediments accumulated mainly at the northern and southern ends of the beach. Based on the wave and current measurements in the nearshore zone and computer simulations of the wave field, it was inferred that the observed topographic change of the beach after the storm events is related to the directions of the wind-driven current and wave propagation in the nearshore zone. The dominant direction of water movement was southeastward and northeastward when the typhoon pathway lay to the east or west of Jeju Island, respectively. As these enhanced waves and currents approached obliquely to the N-S trending coastline, the beach sediments were reworked and transported southward or northward mainly by longshore currents, which likely acts as a major control mechanism regarding alongshore topographic change with respect to Udo Rhodolith Beach. In contrast to the topographic change, the subaerial volume of the beach overall increased after all storms except for Maysak. The volume increase was attributed to the enhanced transport of onshore sediment under the combined effect of storm-induced long periodic waves and a strong residual component of the near-bottom current. In the Maysak event, the raised sea level during the spring tide probably enhanced the backshore erosion by storm waves, eventually causing sediment loss to the inland area.

Dike lines are important features for describing the detailed shapes of dikes and for detecting topographic changes on dike surfaces. Historically, dike lines have been generated using only the LiDAR data. This paper proposes a new methodology for selecting an appropriate dike line on various dike surfaces using the topographic LiDAR data and multispectral orthoimages taken in the Nakdong River basins. The fi rst baselines were generated from the given LiDAR data using the modified convex hull algorithm and smoothing spline function, and the second baselines were generated from the given orthoimages by the Canny operator. Next, one baseline was selected among the two baselines at 10m intervals by comparing their elevations, and the selected baseline at 10m interval was defined as the dike line segment. Finally, the selected dike line segments were connected to construct the 3D dike lines. The statistical results show that the dike lines generated using both the LiDAR data and multispectral orthoimages had the improved horizontal and vertical accuracies than the dike lines generated only using the LiDAR data on the various dike surfaces.
The flow pattern of the nearshore current generated around the breached breakwaters and river-mouth was simulated by numerical model in the case of the inclined incident wave without river discharge when the detached breakwaters were installed at the river-mouth area for the protection against the blockade of the river-mouth. The validity of the numerical model was testified y comparision with the results obtained through the hydraulic model test at the fixed bed. The deformation of the topographic features around the river-mouth and the detached breakwaters was examined through the three-dimensional hydraulic model test at the movable bed. The usefulness of the detached breakwater work for the protection against the blockade of the river-mouth was identified by the experimental results.

It is transformed map data of different coordinate system into unique system and We triedto make topographic map on non-accessible area. We transformed Russian map coordinates(Krassovsky, G-K projection) intoWGS-84, TM projection and assessed accuracy. The RMSE(in East and West bearings : ${\pm}$13.67m, in North and South bearings : ${\pm}$14.67m) using only SCP(Survey Control Point) is more accurate than that(in East and West bearings : ${\pm}$24.26m, in North and South bearings : ${\pm}$25.32m) using SCP, intersection of road, bridge. Exterior orientation parameters are estimated using rigorous modelling and GCPs are classified with SCP, intersection of road, bridge. Rigorous modelling is performed with each classified GCP. The modelling result usingonly SCP(in East and West bearings : ${\pm}$13.53m, in North and South bearings : ${\pm}$14.22m) is more accurate than that using intersection of road(in East and West bearings : ${\pm}$16.l1m, in North and South bearings: ${\pm}$23.85m), bridge(in East and West bearings : ${\pm}$17.21m, in North and South bearings : ${\pm}$21.82m). The results means that SCP is more accurate than intersection of road, bridge because of edit to generate map. therefore, SCP is suitable for object of GCP in paper map(1:50,000). Geographic information on non-accessible area and analysis is performed. The results of stereoscopic plotting is well matched old map data on road, railroad but, many objects are generally editted. It is possible to update on new objects(building, tributary ‥‥etc). Ability of description using SPOT-5(stereo) is more than features and items included in 1:50,000 topographic map. Therefore, it is possible to make large scale map than 1:50,000 topographic map using SPOT-5 imagery. But, there are many problems(accurate GCPs, obtain of high resolution stereoscopic satellite imagery in a period ‥‥ etc) to make topographic map on non-accessible area. It is actually difficult to solve these problems. therefore, it is possible to update 1:50,000 topographic map in part of topographic map generation.
Among components of digital topographic maps used officially in Korea, only contours have 3D values except buildings and trees that are demanded in landscape planning. This study presented a series of processes for 3Dreconstructing landscape features such as terrain, buildings and standing trees using LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data and aerial digital photo graphs. The 3D reconstructing processes contain 1) building terrain model, 2) delineating outline of landscape features, 3) extracting height values, and 4) shaping and coloring landscape features using aerial photograph and 3-D virtual data base. LiDAR data and aerial photograph was taken in November 2006 for $50km^{2}$ area in Sorak National Park located in eastern part of Korea. The average scanning density of LiDAR pulse was 1.32 points per square meter, and the aerial photograph with RGB bands has $0.35m{\times}0.35m$ spatial resolution. Using reconstructed 3D landscape features, visibility with the growing trees with time and at different viewpoints was analyzed. Visible area from viewpoint could be effectively estimated considering 3D information of landscape features. This process could be applied for landscape planning like building scale with the consideration of surrounding landscape features.
