  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to statistical model-based voice activity detection (VAD) that incorporates a second-order conditional maximum a posteriori (CMAP) criterion. As a technical improvement for the first-order CMAP criterion in [1], we consider both the current observation and the voice activity decision in the previous two frames to take full consideration of the interframe correlation of voice activity. This is clearly different from the previous approach [1] in that we employ the voice activity decisions in the second-order (previous two frames) CMAP, which has quadruple thresholds with an additional degree of freedom, rather than the first-order (previous single frame). Also, a soft-decision scheme is incorporated, resulting in time-varying thresholds for further performance improvement. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional CMAP-based VAD technique under various experimental conditions.

  • Carboxy-guns are used for rapid and precise injection of $CO_2$ gas to the target skin area using external power source. In the design of carboxy-gun, the most important thing is how to precisely control injection volume of $CO_2$ gas. This paper deals with the control scheme of injection volume of carboxy-gun using solenoid valve. First the amount of volume that passes through the solenoid valve under on-off time ratio control is estimated based on the assumption of compressible gas flow. The flow rate of gas is experimentally measured under the varying pressure of the gas reservoir. Two results showed good correlation to each other, thus demonstrating the validity of the volume control strategy.

  • In this paper, we investigate channel estimation techniques based on the comb-type pilot arrangement for a mobile MIMO OFDM system. Moreover, to enhance channel estimation, an efficient channel estimation technique is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed channel estimator is accurate and effective for tracking variations of channels between multiple transmit antennas and receive antennas in time-varying radio channels.

  • In this paper, presented are the results of observability analysis for the vehicle maneuver during In-Flight Alignment of SDINS. The target system for observability analysis is 10th order one. Three trajectories for IFA are considered. To analyze the observability of the time varying system, correlation coefficient is used and to measure the degree of observability of the given system, simulation is carried out using covariance matrix. The results of simulation show that trajectories which are having continuous changes in attitude and acceleration of system is superior to straight trajectory in correcting navigation errors.

  • This paper is to consider analytical thermodynamic modeling of bipropellant propulsion system. The objective of thermodynamic modeling is to predict thermodynamic conditions such as pressures, temperatures and densities in the pressurant tank and the propellant tank in which heat and mass transfer occur. In this paper also it shows analytic equations that calculate the evolution of ullage volume and interface areas. Since the ullage interface areas are time-varying,(the liquid propellant volume decreases as the rocket engine is firing; the change of ullage volume correspond to the change of liquid propellant volume) for a numerical convenience non-dimensionalized correlations are commonly used in most literatures with limitations; a few percentages of inherent error. The analytic equations are derived from analytic geometry, subsequently without inherent error. Those equations are important to calculate the heat transfer areas in the heat transfer equations. It presents the comparison result of both analytic equations and correlation method.

  • Using non-destructive Acoustic Emission (AE) and optical Digital Image Correlation (DIC) methods, the moment-curvature behavior of steel and GFRP bars reinforced concrete beams under flexure was explored in this study. In the tension zone, laboratory studies were carried out on steel-RC and GFRP-RC beams with varying percentages of longitudinal reinforcement ratios of 0.33 %, 0.52%, and 1.11%. The distinct mechanism of cracking initiation and fracture progression of failure in steel-RC and GFRP-RC beams were effectively correlated and picked up using AE waveform characteristics of the number of AE hits and their amplitudes, AE energy as well as average frequency and duration. AE XY event plots and longitudinal strain profiles using DIC gives an online and real-time visual display of progressive AE activity and strains respectively to efficaciously depict the crack evolution and their advancement in steel-RC and GFRP-RC beams. They display a close matching with the micro and macro-cracks visually observed in the actual beams at various stages of loading.

  • The present work investigates the wave generation and propagation in a 2-D wave flume to assess the effect of wave reflection for varying beach slopes by using a numerical tool based on computational fluid dynamics. At first, a numerical wave flume (NWF) is created with different mesh sizes to select the optimum mesh size for time efficient simulation. In addition, different beach slope conditions are introduced such as 1:3, 1:5 and numerical beach at the far end of the NWF to optimize the wave reflection solutions. In addition, several parameters are analysed in order to optimize the solutions. The developed numerical model and its key findings are compared with analytical and experimental surface elevation results and it reveals a good correlation. Finally, the recommended numerical solutions are validated with the experimental findings.

  • This study proposes the automation of disinfection process in water treat plant to reach target effluent chlorine concentration rate according to chlorine consumption rate by varying travel time. Hydraulic analysis about the process and local facility was surveyed first and the program for automatic operation was developed to solve current problem, whose applied result was presented and proved to be better than present controller. Especially using multi variable process algorithm, the correlation coefficient is analyzed between environment factor and reaction time, and process control prove to be stable through model estimation with optimal control input.

  • It has been a big trend of the convergence technologies about communication systems and vehicular industry to improve safety and convenience. To achieve a number of infotainment vehicular applications, vehicles should transmit information with high reliability. A robust and accurate channel estimation scheme is of great importance to achieve the goal. In this paper, we present a novel enhanced decision-directed channel estimation scheme called FADP (Frequency Averaging Data Pilot) for dynamic time-varying vehicular channels in IEEE 802.11p. We use linear averaging filtering in frequency domain, and utilize the correlation characteristic of the channels between the adjacent two data symbols, update the CR in time domain to get more accuracy. Finally, analysis and simulation results reveal that compared with exist schemes, the proposed scheme has a good performance in mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER).

  • The curing of epoxy asphalt mixture depends on the chemical reaction of epoxy resin and the curing agent. The curing level of epoxy asphalt mixture needs to be predicted in order to decide traffic opening time and to establish further construction plans. In this study, chemical analysis of the prediction model was executed to expand the applicability of the previous prediction model. Consequently, the curing level prediction model of epoxy asphalt concrete mixture was proposed using the concentration ratio and the acid value ratio. According to the results of outdoor curing experiments, the final prediction model showed that the correlation coefficient is greater than 0.971. Precise prediction results of different composition epoxy asphalt were obtained by reflecting the chemical composition ratios in the curing level prediction model.
