  • Undifferentiated stem cells are being studied to obtain information on the therapeutic potential of isolates that are produced. Dental Pulp Stem Ccell (DPSC) may provide an abundant supply of highly proliferative, multipotent Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC), which are now known to be capable of regenerating a variety of human tissues including bone and other dental structures. Many factors influence DPSC quality and quantity, including the specific methods used to isolate, collect, concentrate, and store these isolates once they are removed. Ancillary factors, such as the choice of media, the selection of early versus late passage cells, and cryopreservation techniques may also influence the differentiation potential and proliferative capacity of DPSC isolates. This literature review concludes that due to the delicate nature of DPSC, more research is needed for dental researchers and clinicians to more fully explore the feasibility and potential for isolating and culturing DPSCs extracted from adult human teeth in order to provide more accurate and informed advice for this newly developing field of regenerative medicine.

  • Younger generations use a variety of visual media, such as smartphones, televisions, and computers. Due to the development of visual media, the health of eye was weakening. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of eye health and dynamic visual activity on eye muscle stimulation with eye movement and therapeutic massage in university students. 38 university students in their 20s were divided into a control group(18) and an experimental group(20). The experimental group performed eye movement and therapeutic massage every 30 minutes for 5 times a week for 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue, maximal blinking interval, ocular surface temperature, and dynamic visual activity were measured before and after 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue was decreased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05), and maximal blinking interval was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Ocular surface temperature was not showed a significant difference after 4 weeks (p>.05), and dynamic visual activity was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Therefore, eye movement and therapeutic massage are recommended for the improvement of eye function and eye health. It is expected to be used as research data to restore and prevent for eye health.

  • Narrowing of arteries supplying blood to the limbs provokes critical hindlimb ischemia (CLI). Although CLI results in irreversible sequelae, such as amputation, few therapeutic options induce the formation of new functional blood vessels. Based on the proangiogenic potentials of stem cells, in this study, it was examined whether a combination of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) could result in enhanced therapeutic effects of stem cells for CLI compared with those of DPSCs or HUVECs alone. The DPSCs+ HUVECs combination therapy resulted in significantly higher blood flow and lower ischemia damage than DPSCs or HUVECs alone. The improved therapeutic effects in the DPSCs+ HUVECs group were accompanied by a significantly higher number of microvessels in the ischemic tissue than in the other groups. In vitro proliferation and tube formation assay showed that VEGF in the conditioned media of DPSCs induced proliferation and vessel-like tube formation of HUVECs. Altogether, our results demonstrated that the combination of DPSCs and HUVECs had significantly better therapeutic effects on CLI via VEGF-mediated crosstalk. This combinational strategy could be used to develop novel clinical protocols for CLI proangiogenic regenerative treatments.

  • Since the early 20th century, along with the interest and development of alternative psychotherapy, the field of art therapy has also been developed and expanded. In particular, the recent development of technology and the untact era brought about by the COVID-19 Pandemic is accelerating the development of new digital art therapy contents. Among them, the hot interest in virtual reality is raising expectations and questions about the effectiveness of psychotherapy given by new media beyond traditional art therapy. In this study, the characteristics of VRAT (Virtual Reality Art Therapy) content therapeutic factors were investigated through qualitative literature analysis based on the conceptual framework and therapeutic components of ETC (Expressive Therapies Continumm), an integrated art therapy theory. As a result of the study, VRAT contents showed mostly therapeutic factors in the left hemisphere that triggered the user's dynamic, perceptual, and cognitive factors, and the therapeutic factors in the right hemisphere, which focused on sensory, emotional, and symbolic factors, were relatively few. The reason seems to be due to the nature of the experimental stage, the absence of active intervention by the therapist and long-term session composition, and the fear, clumsiness, and unfamiliarity of users about VRAT in addition to the characteristics and technical limitations of the VRAT medium. The limitations of the study include the small number of documents to be analyzed and the insufficient form of current VRAT to be called art therapy. It is expected that the characteristics of the therapeutic factors of VRAT content media and environment derived as a result of this study will be usefully used for the appropriate development of VRAT content in the future.

  • Mammalian cell cultures have been used extensively to produce proteins for therapeutic agent because of their ability to perform post-translational modification including glycosylation. To produce recombinant protein, many factors and parameter are considered such as media composition, host cell type, and culture process. In this study, recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) producing cell line was established by using glutamine synthetase system. To reduce serum concentration in media, we compared direct adaptation with step adaptation. Cell growth was faster in step adaptation. In low-level serum media, there were insufficient glucose for cell growth. Thus, we added glucose in low-level serum media from 2 g/L to 4.5 g/L. Titer of rhEPO was higher than other conditions at 4.5 g/L of glucose. Additionally, N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), 13-cis-retinal, and pluronic F-68 (PF-68) were added to enhance productivity in CHO cell cultures. In conclusion, we applied CHO cell producing rhEPO to low-level of serum in media using step-adaptation. Also, we confirmed positive effect of NMDA, 13-cis-retinal, and PF-68.

  • Ultrasound has been found useful as a therapeutic modality for the reduction of muscular and tendinous spasm. It has also been utilized for pain and other pathologic conditions through the ability of soundwaves to introduce molecules of chemical substances through the skin by a process. Choice of the transmission medium is very important for effective ultrasound treatment in clinical field. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of various ultrasound conduction media in regard to ultrasound conductivity and degree of absorption, evaporation and of skin irritation. The media used in this study were Antiphlamine, Sacch lotion, Stereogel, Trastgel, Antiphlamine S lotion, and Mentholatum lotion that have been used in clinical medicine. The study revealed that Antiphlamine was not compatible with a good ultrasound transmitter. Other media excluding Antiphlamine were compatible with a good ultrasound conductor, but they had some drawback with their nature of higher absorption, evaporation and skin irritation. The medium that was prepared by mixing of Antiphlamine with Gel in 1 to 10 ratio was a good ultrasound transmitter and extents of absorption and evaporation and of skin irritation of it were less than the other media.

  • Acupuncture and acupressure apply needles or pressure to anatomical points for therapeutic benefit. The over 350 mapped acupuncture points in the human body can each treat various conditions, but anatomical variations make precisely locating these acupoints difficult. We propose a computer vision technique using the real-time hand and face tracking capabilities of the MediaPipe framework to identify acupoint locations. Our model detects anatomical facial and hand landmarks, and then maps these to corresponding acupoint regions. In summary, our proposed model facilitates precise acupoint localization for self-treatment and enhances practitioners' abilities to deliver targeted acupuncture and acupressure therapies.

  • In the training field where literature is used as a tool, some excerpts from its text are used, instead of its full text. Therefore, it is necessary to have empirical guidelines for which part of the text should be used as Memory-Hint, a part that reminds its reader of certain memory, and for how the text can be introduced effectively. For the study, Hesse's whole life and his literary characters were examined from a therapeutic perspective. First, while Hesse's life was reviewed and his characters were analyzed, Hesse was recognized for Self-therapeutic Life. He also lived a life of multimedia in which he practiced writing, painting, playing musical instruments, meditation, walking, etc. Second, Contents of Literature Therapy using Hesse's works were applied to the schizophrenic patients. Media used for the clinical study were mostly extracted from Hesse's works. They began to show interest in others and express their empathy on others, in addition to expressing their sentimental empathy on Hesse's texts. How effectively Hesse utilized multimedia during his lifetime will be good literary resources in helping improving modern-day people's mental health and curing their pathological problems.
