  • The insulation strength between contacts after current interruption to the transient recovery voltage i.e., the dielectric recovery strength should be estimated for the evaluation of the small capacitive current interruption capability. Many authors have used theoretical and semi-experimental approaches to evaluate the transient breakdown voltage after the current interruption. Moreover, an empirical equation, which is obtained from a series of tests, has been used to estimated the dielectric recovery strength. Un this paper, the theoretical method which is generated from the streamer theory has been applied to real circuit breakers in order to evaluated the interruption capability. The results of analysis have been compared with the test results and the reliability has been investigated.

  • PCC (precipitated calcium carbonate) and ground calcium carbonate have been widely used in alkaline papermaking. Unfortunately, although increasing filler level in papers can improve the paper properties such as brightness, opacity, stiffness gloss, smoothness, porosity, and printability, as well as decrease cost, some strength of the paper is negatively affected. In this research, needle-like aragonite was synthesized using $Ca(OH)_2$ and $CO_2$ as reactants in the presence of $MgCl_2$ and characterized with scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The physical and optical properties of the paper handsheets containing these needle-like aragonite fillers were evaluated. Results indicated that tensile strength, Z-direction tensile strength and folding endurance of the paper were improved by the needle-like aragonite crystals compared to the paper using commercial PCC (precipitated calcium carbonate) as filler. The stiffness of the paper handsheet on the machine direction was increased, but no evident difference in the cross direction was found. The improvement of paper strength mainly resulted from the twining effect between the aragonite whiskers and paper fibers. The optical properties of the paper were slightly decreased with the use of the needle-like aragonites compared to commercial PCC. These results suggest that paper cost can be decreased by increasing the content of needle-like aragonite filler while paper strength will not be decreased compared to PCC filler.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of post-fire-curing on the strength recovery of fire-damaged concrete The 170 specimens have been tested with variables of concrete strengths(20, 30, 40, 50, 60Mpa) exposed to elevated temperatures till $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$. After natural cooling, the specimens were subjected to post-fire-curing in water and in a controlled chamber for a total duration of 56days. Unstressed compressive strength was conducted to examine the change in the concrete. The test results indicated that the post-fire-curing results in substantial strength recovery and its extent depend on the method and duration of recuring.

  • The aim of this study is to develop economical High-Strength and High-Quality Concrete, and to assure quality control of Concrete in the field. For this purpose, Five types of Mixing Methods are examined and the relationship between slump loss and slump recovery by transport is studied. As a result, workability and strength are dependent on the Mixing Method, although the Mixing proportions are same, Also, adding admixture in the field is proposed as an alternative to consider the relationship between slump loss and slump recovery.

  • This paper discusses the reduction and subsequent recovery and increase of shear strength of clay in the vicinity of soil-cement column. Laboratory and field tests were conducted to investigate the effects on surrounding clay during and after soil-cement column installation in soft Ariake clay. Discussions were made on the mechanism of strength changes of clay by considering the thixotropic recovery, reconsolidation effect, penetration of cement slurry and diffusion of exchangeable cations. On the basis of field and laboratory observations, 10 days after column installation, the decreased shear strength of surrounding clay during mixing was recovered and 30 days later, shear strength of surrounding clay increased 30% by average. Therefore, it is recommended that the increase of shear strength of clay can be taken into consideration in the bearing capacity and stability analysis of the composite ground.

  • Before and after the test constructions, and after an 11-month hiatus from the pilot pile installations, the in-situ tests (CPT, SPT) were carried out at the ground adjacent to the noise- and vibration-free screw concrete piles installed by 2 kinds of construction methods (i.e., the toe-jetting shoe type, the pre-digging type). In the toe-jetting shoe type construction methods, after construction, the soil strength within 3.5D (where, D = pile diameter) from the pile center decreased greatly by about 46% of the original ground and, after an 11-month hiatus, a strength recovery adjacent to the piles appeared about 71% of the original ground. In the pre-digging type construction methods, a strength recovery adjacent to the piles appeared 100% of the strength of the original ground.

  • Cotton fabrics were finished with mixture of BTCA(1,2,3,4,-butanetetracarboxylic acid) and polyalkyleneoxide-modified amino-functional silicone by pad-dry-cure process to achieve better DP performance with a higher retention of physical properties as compared to those of finished with BTCA alone. The results indicated that BTCA improved the wrinkle recovery but reduced significantly the tensile and tear strength of the treated fabrics. Whereas silicone imparted a lower wrinkle recovery, a lower loss of tensile strength than BTCA, in addition improved considerably the tear strength owing to reduction in inter-fiber and/or inter-yarn frictional forces. The concentration and curing temperature needed to enhance physical properties were as follows; for BTCA treatments 6%, at 18$0^{\circ}C$, for silicone treatments 1% at 14$0^{\circ}C$. This optimum concentration of silicone was observed by using the mixture of BTCA and silicone. The wrinkle recovery and DP rating of cotton fabrics treated with mixture of 4% BTCA and 1% silicone at a curing temperature of 17$0^{\circ}C$ was similar to those of treated with 6% BTCA at a curing temperature of 18$0^{\circ}C$, and other performance properties observed were; an increase in tensile strength, extension, toughness, abrasion resistance and moisture regain due to the reduction of BTCA concentration and curing temperature, futhermore an improvement in bending and surface properties due to the lubricating effect of silicone. On the other hand 1% aqueous silicone solution showed the lowest surface tension. Such nonionic surface activity resulted in a more uniform and rapid deposition of BTCA on the fiber or fabric.

  • Sialon was produced by hot-pressing the mixtures of $Si_3N_4$, AlN and $Y_2O_3$ powders. All fracture tests were performed on a three-point loading system with a 30 mm bending span. Fracture toughness and Vickers hardness of smooth specimen were average 7.05 $MPa{\cdot}m^{0.5}$ and Hv = 1580, respectively. Density of three kinds of specimens, smooth specimen, smooth and healed specimen, smooth with $SiO_2$ colloidal coating and healed specimen, had beyond 99 % of theoretical density. Bending strength of smooth healed specimens had high strength more than 1 GPa. Crack healed specimens recovered as strength as smooth specimen. That is, cracked specimen with $SiO_2$ colloidal coating on cracked part recovered strength by heat treatment, completely. Crack healing of $Si_3N_4$ composite ceramics had contributed glassy $SiO_2$ to strength recovery. Limiting high temperature for bending strength of heat treated smooth specimen for bending strength was about 1273 K.

  • In this study, when cotton fabrics dyed with Direct dyes are treated under various resin concentration 2, 4, 8, 12, $14\%$ with ureaformaldehyde(UF) and melamineformaldehyde(MF) resin which can be imparted the crease recovery to textiles, chang of properties on lightfastness, washfastness, crease recovery, breaking strength, etc. and color changes are investigated. the results are as follows 1) Color difference(${\Delta}$E) increased but K/S value decreased according to the increase of resin cone. such tendency showed that MF treated fabrics and soaping fabrics were evident than UF treated fabrics and non-soaping fabrics. 2) In lightfastness, ${\Delta}$E and K/S value of resin treated fabrics were reduced as compared with untreated fabrics according to the increase of resin cone. The lower ${\Delta}$E and K/S value of MF than ${\Delta}$E and K/S value of UF showed low lightfastness of MF. pH of resin treted fabrics was almost unaffected with lightfastness. 3) In washfastness, ${\Delta}$E and K/S value of resin treated fabrics decreased slightly as com-pared with untreated fabricsaccording tothe increase of resin cone. The ${\Delta}$E and K/S value of MF decreased lower than UF. But in the case of the higher resin cone. than about $8\%$, they were not almost differentiated. 4) As resin cone. increased, crease recovery considerably increased but breaking strength and elongation decreased. The fabrics treated with UF were good crease recovery, whereas the fabrics treated with MF were good breaking strength. 5) Soaping appeared to improve the lightfastness, washfastness, crease recovery but appeared to work adverse effect on breaking strength.
