The purpose of this study was to investigate several aspects of eating out behaviors among older persons. In aging society, need of seniors are getting higher than before, they want to have a good quality of life. Specially it is changed in family structure and life style. The food habits of older person will be getting change. Hence this study tried to show the various thought of eating out behaviors, interested factors to select restaurants and menus, tendency to do eating out, inconveniences to use of eating out so on. The questionnaires were completed by 150 older persons living over 60 years old in Busan. They were mostly health and active. The most study were focused young generation however the old generation was not interest in eating out behaviors. Therefor this study gave a lot of approach to develop food habits for old person. The result were as followed: The attitude of eating out were positive, once or two times in a week was highest response 138(92%). As frequently selected food were vegetable and Korean food restaurants. Moreover older person expect a meaningful food culture among older person. As a bad grade of eating out were not to be kind to seniors, never concern to characteristic older. They wanted to have a food for their health and to share with their spare time. The study of eating out style will be very important issue of silver industry. To develop menus and to make older person culture is very needed in aging society.
This study aimed to understand the differences in general characteristics, principal diagnosis, injury-related characteristics, and types of transportation accidents between young-old and old-old patients who were hospitalized owing to injury based on data from the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-Depth Injury Surveys. We used a complex sample cross tabulation analysis (chi-square test) and complex sample generalized linear model (t-test). Therefore, the primary focus of healthcare professionals working with the old-old should prevent falls in the home and increase the available medical care, financial aid plans, and psychosocial support for aging. Additionally education on traffic accident prevention and road safety is particularly important for old-old patients.
Long-term effects of Ganoderma lucidum (GL) on memory and oxidative stress of senescence-accelerated mice (SAM) were investigated. Senescence-resistant (R1) and prone (P8) strains of SAM were fed GL diets, premixed with low (20 mg/kg/day, T1) or high (200 mg/kg/day, T2) levels of GL powder for 9 months starting from young (3 months of age) or for 5 months starting from old (7 months of age). After the final feeding at 12 months of age, all animals were subjected to passive avoidance test for the evaluation of memory function. In addition, the changes in hepatic thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) and glutathione were analyzed. SAMP8 fed GL diets from old age (7 months) exhibited the improvement of memory, although GL rather inhibited the memory function of both SAMR1 and SAMP8 mice fed diets from young (3 months of age). Hepatic TBARS contents were decreased in SAMP8 fed high GL diet for 9 months and in SAMR1 fed low GL diet for 5 months. Hepatic glutathione content was also remarkably increased in SAMR1 following both feeding periods, and less extent in SAMP8 fed diet for 5 months of age. Taken together, it is proposed that GL extracts may play an anti-aging role through antioxidant action, and thereby may improve the senescence-related memory dysfunction.
The purpose of this study was to examine the changes of emotion experiences in old age and confirm the effects of emotional characteristics on the subjective well-being in old age by the longitudinal study. This longitudinal study started from 2003 and every two year we performed panel study. We analysed the data from old participants who participated tree-times(2003, 2005, 2007)and over 65 year-old. Finally, 844 old participants(male, 340; female, 504)' data were analysed. The elderly experienced more positive emotions than negatives and these results represented affective optimization. We performed mixed ANOVA method and confirmed significant change of emotion experiences during 6 years. Positive emotion experiences and negative emotion experiences were decreased as they get older. We also examined the effects of emotional experiences on the subjective well-being. In results, emotion experiences were more effective than the demographic variables for maintaining subjective well-being in old age. Decreasing negative emotion experiences and increasing positive emotion experiences can keep happy life up in old age. The importance of the quality of emotional life in old age and the necessity of longitudinal study of aging were discussed.
To investigate the effect of dietary Ca levels on metabolic changes of Ca and skeleton in postmenopausal women, 10-month-old ovariectomized female rats were compared with 2 month old rats. The rats were fed either 0.2% or 1.2% Ca diets for 16 weeks. Food intake and weight gain as higher in rats fed high Ca diets and in ovariectomized rats. Apparent Ca absorption as higher, and Ca balance was lower in the low Ca groups. Vertebrae density was higher in old rats or those fed a high Ca diets. The old rats and ovariectomized rats showed decreased bone formation, increased bone resorption and kidney function deterioration resulting in increased urinary Ca excretion. Contradictory to the above observation, old rats and ovariectomized rats still showed higher bone mass and bone ash content. Therefore aging was not fully onging in 10-month-old rats. Bone weights, mineral contents, and mineral/wt ratio were lower in ovariectomized rats. Dietary Ca level did not affect urinary Ca excretion, urinary protein excretion, GFR, serum alkaline phosphatase, or urinary hydroxyporline excretion. This means that dietary Ca level did not influence kidney function or bone turnover. However Ca content and the ash content of femur, 4th vertebra, and scapula were increased in high Ca groups. Therefore, it is considered that decreased bone formation and accelerated bone resorption may account for the increased osteoporotic risk in women in menopause after middle age. However, Ca metabolism can be improved and bone components can be maintained if Ca is supplemented.
The purpose of this study is to examine the middle aged's perception of aging and the degree of physical/financial/social preparation for later life and to explore the effect of the middle aged's perception of aging, who live in Gwangju & Jeonnam of Korea, on physical/financial/social preparation for later life. This research also explores gender differences in perception of aging, preparation for later life and related factors. For the purpose, the survey data was gathered from 424 middle aged (40's & 50's) citizens who live in Gwangju and Jeonnam, using structured questionnaire. The statistical methods used for data analysis are descriptive statistics, cross tables, t-test, correlations and regression with Spss/win 17.0 program. The major findings of this study are as follows: Most of the respondents perceive that the age of being aged is 65 or 70 years old. Respondents feel anxiety about health (84%), finance (57%) and roleless role (22%) of later life. Female group feel health anxiety more than male group. Many people perceive that social preparation for later life is better than financial preparation and physical preparation for later life. The result shows that female group perceives their physical preparation level more positively than male group generally. But, there were no differences in financial and social preparation between gender groups. Finally, the result shows the meaningful relationships between male group's perception of aging and financial preparation for later life. Monthly income is the most important variable predicting preparation for later life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and compare the factors influencing attitude toward one's own aging among Korean middle-aged adults and the elderly. Methods: A cross sectional study was performed with a total sample of 70 middle-aged adults and 64 elderly reside in two metropolitan areas. Data were collected from August 2015 to November 2015 using the Perceived Health Status Scale, the Health Locus of Control Scale and the Attitude Toward own Aging (ATOA) Scale. The statistics used include percentage, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: Mean age for each age group were about 52 and 76 years old for middle-aged adults and the elderly respectively. A considerable proportion of all participants reported a negative attitude toward aging. Perceived health status was the common factor influencing attitude toward one's own aging in both age groups. Middle-aged adults identified presence of chronic illness and internal health locus of control as important factors. In contrast, the elderly reported that education and others-dependent health locus of control such as powerful others had a significant impact on ATOA. Each regression model explained 31% and 55% of the total variance of ATOA among middle-aged adults and among the elderly. Conclusion: Both middle-aged adults and the elderly with low perceived health status are at risk of negative ATOA's. The type health locus of control need to be identified and utilized based on individuals' tendency to improve positive ATOA. That is, middle-aged adults might need reinforcement of their self-will whereas the elderly might need enhancement of social support and network of family and healthcare providers.
The purpose of this research is to critically analysis the applying trend of the successful aging research on the baby boomers Generation. Research method is qualitative content analysis and this study was analyzed by concepts, factors, heterogeneity and variety of generation. The results of the analysis on 124 domestic articles on the journals on the successful aging from 2000 to 2016 are as follows: most of concepts in researches are about economic problems. In a research model, social environmental factors are barely considered. Heterogeneity and a few studies showed identities and varieties of generation. Based on these results, several suggestions are presented; First, consideration about the concepts of successful aging On a broad range is required. Secondly, concepts and influence factors should be clearly identified. Third, factors related to life itself in aging and macro social environment than factors of individual unit focused on economic value should be used. In addition, new age-old cultual value should be discussed to understand the Inherent traits of baby boomers. Lastly, studies to discuss varieties which are caused by age and gender of the baby boomers are needs to proceed.

The aging of population is a social phenomenon commonly observed in advanced countries. It causes various problems. Thus the aged problem must be approached from quality of life, which the elderly pursue instinctively regardless of their life cycle, and the utilization of their spare time or leisure hours. However, there have been research reports that, if the elderly participate in voluntary and active meaningful leisure, they can achieve successful adaptation to their aging and the life in their old age. In particular, we need to give our attention to the fact that, compared to other leisure activities, recreational sports make significant contributions to successful aging. When the aged participate in active leisure and recreational sports regularly, their satisfaction with spare time is enhanced and their loneliness is relieved, which resultantly brings high life satisfaction. This suggests that recreational sports activities enable the aged to achieve successful aging and contribute to the solution of the aged problem. In order to promote physical activity for aging population, we must utilize MINIMAX strategies.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of relationships with family on successful aging according to the four attachment style to children. 509 elderly people over 60 years old having a spouse, non-cohabitated children were included. The main findings through this study are as follows; First, secure and preoccupied attachment style were statistically higher than dismissing and fearful attachment style in successful aging and relationship with spouse, children and grandchildren. Second, total paths of research model were different according to the attachment style of the elderly. Model fit of secure attachment style was not good and the effects of relationships with family on successful aging were not statistically significant. In case of preoccupied attachment style, the effect of relationship with spouse and grandchildren on successful aging were significant. Also the effect of relationship with spouse on relationship with children was significant and the effect of relationship with children on relationship with grandchildren was significant. Relationship with grandchildren mediates the effect of relationship with children on successful aging. In case of dismissing attachment style, the effect of relationship with spouse and grandchildren on successful aging were significant. Also the effect of relationship with children on relationship with grandchildren was significant. Relationship with grandchildren mediates the effect of relationship with children on successful aging. In case of fearful attachment style, the effect of relationship with spouse and grandchildren on successful aging were significant. Also the effect of relationship with spouse on relationship with children was significant and the effect of relationship with children on relationship with grandchildren was significant. Relationship with children mediates the effect of relationship with spouse on successful aging. This study explains the role of attachment styles as moderation variable of relationship with family on successful aging and also suggests the importance of marital and grandparents-grandchildren relationship as alternative supporter when the elderly has relational problems with adult children.
