  • To improve the performance of the control butterfly valve seals are used to eccentric shaft. In this case, vertical opening gas of the butterfly valve is non-symmetrical, which will change the flow pattern around the valve. In this study, the eccentric drive shaft of the butterfly valve to change flow characteristics are performed numerically. Flow pattern and pressure drop are investigated as the valve opening angle increases for a given mass flow rate. The valve flow coefficient is compared to the without eccentric shaft.

  • Analogous problem for a gear dynamics where helical gears excite logitudinal forces in the shaft is studied. These shaft forces excite the supporting gear housing through bearing, causing structural vibration. In this study, shaft is modeled as a rod, and bearing is modeled by a massless spring. A simple model for gear housing is a clamped circular plate. To model this force transmission, the transfer functions from the shaft to a clamped circular plate are analytically derived by using the spectral method and four-pole parameter. Finally, radiated noise is computed, using the acoustic relations due to plate surface vibration.

  • This paper presents the automatic alignment measuring system for improving the accuracy and working time of alignment of large vertical hydraulic pump turbine. It is general practice that rotating shaft should run within acceptable vibration limit. In order to obtain better run-out data of multi-stage rotor, careful and accurate alignment approach must be established. Generally, present alignment procedure are required several iterative works and so many manpower. Therefore, the new system has been developed using a vector calculation algorithm, laser sensor and data acquisition devices. As a result of appling to actual machines, it is confirmed that manpower is saved up to an average 90%.

  • A counter shaft gear is an important part in the transmission system of vehicle. Its shape is relatively complicated and should meets high strength. Traditionally it has been manufactured as follows; the counter shaft gear has consisted of a clutch and helical body with teeth which are forged and machined for teeth respectively and then attached by frictional welding. In this study, a new hot forging process was proposed and designed so that the counter shaft gear is formed as one body without divide it into two parts. Furthermore, the precision forging process has been developed for the clutch teeth without additional grinding.

  • In this study, we developed the manufacturing technology of micro-hole and micro-shaft for micro punching system using micro electrical discharge machining and micro electro chemical machining. Micro punching dies of tungsten carbide with $55\;{\mu}m\;and\;110\;{\mu}m$ diameter and $250\;{\mu}m$ depth were made by micro electrical discharge machining. The form accuracy and surface roughness of die hole were pretty good and it was shown that the punched hole quality was fine. WC micro-shaft with $30\;{\mu}m$ diameter was made by the multistep micro electro chemical machining. The developed technologies can be effectively used in precision manufacturing of micro punching die and mass production of micro-shaft.

  • In this paper, the heat and fluid flow analysis in a shaft of an apartment has been performed in order to investigate the pressure distribution inside a shaft considering both natural and forced convection. The present CFD approach can be used in estimating the capacity of roof ventilator of an apartment reasonably. Furthermore, flow patterns inside a shaft have been examined for some operating conditions of hood system.

  • As design trends has changed to have flexible aft hull structure, increased power output and stiffer shafting system, owners and classification societies have more concerned about shaft alignment. In the shaft alignment analysis, there are many uncertainties which are related in propeller generated force, bearing stiffness, crank shaft model and etc. in this study, it is focused on the effect of crankshaft model by comparing between equivalent model and actual crankshaft model.

  • An immune system has powerful abilities such as memory, recognition and learning how to respond to invading antigens, and has been applied to many engineering algorithms in recent year. In this pap er, the combined optimization algorithm (Immune- Genetic Algorithm: IGA) is proposed for multi-optimization problems by introducing the capability of the immune system that controls the proliferation of clones to the genetic algorithm. The optimizing ability of the proposed combined algorithm is identified by comparing the result of optimization with simple genetic algorithm for two dimensional multi-peak function which have many local optimums. Also the new combined algorithm is applied to minimize the total weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearings. The inner diameter oil the shaft and the bearing stiffness are chosen as the design variables. The dynamic characteristics are determined by applying the generalized FEM. The results show that the combined algorithm and reduce both the weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearing with dynamic conatriants.
