Cholinesterase Inhibitory Activities of Alkaloids from Corydalis Tuber

  • Several isoquinoline alkaloids (1 - 18), which have basic chemical structures as protoberberine and aporphine skeletones, were evaluated for their inhibitory activities on AChE and BuChE. Among them, compounds 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12 showed the potent AchE activity with the $IC_{50}$ values ranging from $10.2{\pm}0.5\;{\mu}M$ to $24.5{\pm}1.6\;{\mu}M$, meanwhile, compound 14 - 17 exhibited strong inhibitory activity with $IC_{50}$ values from $2.1{\pm}0.2$ to $5.5{\pm}0.3\;{\mu}M$. Compounds 14 - 17 exhibited selective inhibition for AChE compared with BuChE. The isoquinoline alkaloid possesses aromatic methylenedioxy groups and quaternary nitrogen atoms are crucial for the anti-cholinesterase inhibitory activity.

Late-Quaternary Vegetation in the Lake of Korea (영랑호, 월함지 및 방어진의 제4기 이후의 식피의 변천)

  • Pollen analysis from lake districts, Youngnangho, Wolhamji and Bangeojin, revealed vegetational patterns in Korea. The pollen stratigraphy was divided into five zones, zone L, I, II, IIIa and IIIb for the past 15,000 years. During zone L (earlier than 10,500 yr BP), late-glacial period, Youngnangho was vegetated with a coniferous forest dominated by spruce, larch, haploxylon pine and fir with considerable amount of herbs. Zone I(10,500~7500 yr BP) was predominantly herbaceous vegetationj with significant amount of oak and diploxylon pine. It suggests that the overall environment became milder and drier than late-glacial period. Zone II(7,500~4,000 yr BP), hypsithermal period, showed significant warming condition, indicated by high pollen concentrations of oak, diploxylon pine and hornbeam, and by more diverse flora of deciduous broad-leaved trees than before. Herbs were not an important part of vegetation. Zone III$^a$(4,000~1,500 yr BP) had pine and oak as main elements. Birch increased slightly while hornbeam decreased in this time. It indicates cooling condition. Zone III$^b$(1,5000-present) which can be called pine period showed obvious human interference. Following forest clearance, agriculture was intensified. The beginning of logging and agriculture was discernible by a sudden decline of arboreal species and by considerable amount of rice, buckwheat, sorrel and plantain. Numerous charcoal fragments were observed in zone I and zone III$^b$.

Thermal Stability of Amorphous Ti-Cu-Ni-Sn Prepared by Mechanical Alloying

  • Ti-Cu-Ni-Sn quaternary amorphous alloys of $Ti_{50}Cu_{32}Ni_{15}Sn_3$, $Ti_{50}Cu_{25}Ni_{20}Sn_5$, and $Ti_{50}Cu_{23}Ni_{20}Sn_7$ composition were prepared by mechanical alloying in a planetary high-energy ball-mill (AGO-2). The amorphization of all three alloys was found to set in after milling at 300rpm speed for 2h. A complete amorphization was observed for $Ti_{50}Cu_{32}Ni_{15}Sn_3$ and $Ti_{50}Cu_{25}Ni_{20}Sn_5$ after 30h and 20h of milling, respectively. Differential scanning calorimetry analyses revealed that the thermal stability increased in the order of $Ti_{50}Cu_{32}Ni_{15}Sn_3$, $Ti_{50}Cu_{25}Ni_{20}Sn_5$, and $Ti_{50}Cu_{23}Ni_{20}Sn_7$.

Antimicrobial Properties and Characteristic Changes of Nylon Treated with Glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride(GTAC) and Silver nanoparticles(AgNPs) (Glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride(GTAC)와 Ag 나노입자 가 코팅된 나일론의 항균성 및 특성변화)

  • This study deals with antibacterial properties of nylon fiber treated with glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride(GTAC) and silver nanoparticles(AgNPs). Nylon fibers were soaked into GTAC(2-30%, v:v) solution for 20 min. After sample was pre-drying at $80^{\circ}C$ for 10min and cured at $180^{\circ}C$ for 5min. The AgNPs coating was accomplished by soaking in silver colloid solution at $45^{\circ}C$ for 90min. The coated nylon fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EDS). EDS analysis indicated that AgNPs and GTAC was attached on nylon fibers. The treated nylon fibers showed antimicrobial properties against Escherichia coli(ATCC 43895), Pseudomonas aeruginosa(ATCC 13388) and Staphylococcus aureus(ATCCBAA-1707).

Depositional Environments and Sequence Stratigraphy of estuary of the Nakdong River (낙동강 하구 점성토 지층의 층서와 퇴적환경)

  • Sedimentological, geochemical, geophysical and micropaleontological analyses of 10 borehole cores were carried out to understand depositional environment and sequence stratigraphy of late Quaternary sedimentation in the estuary of the Nakdong River. Holocene Formation in study area is classified into five sedimentary units. Early Holocene freshwater lower pebbly sandy deposit(Unit I), lower muddy deposit(Unit II), middle thin sandy deposit(Unit III), upper muddy deposit(Unit VI), and upper sandy deposit(Unit V), in ascending order contolled by global sea-level change since interglacial period(about 15,000 yrs B.P.). Unit I deposited in erosional environments before marine trangression. Unit II and Unit VI composed of clay were deposited in cold and worm currents for marine trangression., respectively.

  • Oxidative modification of nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK) is identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The quaternary structure of NDPK appears to be regulated by cross-linking with an oxidant, $H_2O_2$. We compared roles of NDPK in each of wild type and ynk mutant against oxidative stress. Six specific proteins changed by $H_2O_2$ were identified using two-dimensional electrophoretic analysis. YNK regulated several proteins, related to $H_2O_2$ signaling functions. These results suggest that one of the important functions of NDPK is the regulation of cellular redox state.

  • Large scale generation of plastic waste has generated considerable interest it seeking innovative solutions to waste recycling and reuse. Plastic solid waste(PSW) treatment and recycling processes could be allocated to four major categories, re-extrusion(primary), mechanical recycling(secondary), chemical recycling(tertiary) and energy recovery(quaternary). This review considers the various aspects of the PSW recycling such as recycling methods of PSW, special problems about some proposed process, separation techniques, and recycling of mixed PSW.

  • XRD, HRPD and SEM were used for mineralogical characterization of fault clay in fracture zone from Ipsil. Variations of color in fault clay exhibit significant mineral composition difference. Fault clays from Ipsil are composed mainly of smectite, laumontite, and quartz. Laumontite, a distinct fault clay in Ipsil fault, might be resulted from alteration of bed rock in fracture zone based on the result that no laumontite was found near fault rock. Fault clays from Ipsil are composed mainly of smectite.

  • Volcanic glass shard, which shows relatively homogeneous chemical composition in volcanic eruption materials, is used to determine ages of tephra layers and then to correlate tephra layers each other for understanding of evolution of Quaternary geomorphology. For reducing processing errors in age determination and correlation of units, amorphous glass shard should be separated carefully from soil sample through laboratory procedures such as washing, separation, and identification. Introduction of these processes in detail could be reduced errors in tephrochronology by using volcanic glass shard.

  • 본 연구에서는 양이온 교환반응에 의해 Na-Mont와 R$_{11}$SO$_4$로부터 R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont 층간화합물을 합성한 후, 이 R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont 층간화합물을 다시 제 4차 유기 양이온인 (Et)$_4$N$^{+}$ 이온 및 (Bu)$_4$N$^{+}$ 이온과 반응시켜 그 거동을 살펴보았다. R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont를 (Et)$_4$N$^{+}$이온과 반응시켰을 대보다 (Bu)$_4$N$^{+}$ 이온과 반응시킨 경우에 좀 더 큰 층간거리가 얻어졌다. R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont를 (Et)$_4$N$^{+}$이온 및 (Bu)$_4$N$^{+}$과 반응시켜 얻은 층간화합물을 다시 아세토니트릴, 에탄올 및 디옥산과 팽윤반응을 수행한 결과 층간거리가 확장되었으나, 이는 Na-Mont를 R$_{11}$SO$_4$와 48시간 교환 반응시킨 후에 교환용액 하에서 얻은 R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont의 층간거리에 불과했다. 원소분석결과, R$_{11}$SO$_4$-Mont와 (Bu)$_4$N$^{+}$를 반응시킬 경우 반응이 반응식 b에 의거 진행되고, (Bu)$_4$N-Mont를 R$_{11}$SO$_4$와 반응시킬 경우에는 반응식 c에 의거 진행됨을 예측할 수 있었다.의거 진행됨을 예측할 수 있었다.
