A Study on Space in the Moveis of Hirokazu Koreeda (고레에다 히로카즈 감독 영화의 공간 연구)

  • Classical film narrative fails to reflect the increasing complexity of modern society. In this era of film narrative crisis Hirokazu Koreeda presents a new solution. The director puts an emphasis on neutral valuation over subject matter rather than empathy of audiences which leads to a biased point of view. Thus Hirokazu Koreeda choose space over story as a critical narrative enabler. Two qualitatively opposite spaces are presented and the boundary space of the two are set as a main background where the valuation over the spaces waves up and down. Audiences who get accustomed to a one-sided value judgement led by storytelling can be neutralized by pendulum movement of valuation. The specific methods of using space as a main tool of value neutralization have changed through the director's filmography. Space had been thoroughly designed through the storyboard in early works. Later the director let audiences experience the spaces to evoke a sense of place.

Solution of TE Scattering by a Resistive Strip Grating Over Grounded Dielectric Multilayers (접지된 다층 유전체위의 저항띠 격자구조에 의한 TE 산란의 해)

  • In this paper, TE(transverse electric) scattering problems by a resistive strip grating over grounded dielectric multilayers according to the strip width and grating period, the relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric multilayers, and incident angles of a TE plane wave are analyzed by applying the FGMM(Fourier-Galerkin Moment Method) known as a numerical procedure. The induced surface current density is simply expanded in a Fourier series by using the exponential function as a simple function. Generally, the relected power gets increased according as the relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric multilayers gets increased, the sharp variations of the reflected power are due to resonance effects that take place and were previously called wood's anomallies$^{[7]}$. To verify the validity of the proposed method, the numerical results of normalized reflected power for the uniform resistivity R = 0 as a conductive strip case show in good agreement with those in the existing paper.

  • A series of hybrid rocket combustion experiments were carried out with PMMA/GOx changing diameter and length of the disk installed at pre-chamber. The disk can generate vortex shedding flow and change flow conditions prior to entering the fuel grain which could also alter the combustion characteristics and pressure oscillations. Isolated dimple-like surface roughness patterns distributed all over the fuel surface, which can be thought of as a realization of the inherent flow instability. It is very likely that the formation of cell structures is originated from the modification of boundary layer characteristics of an entering oxidizer flow caused by a blowing effect mainly taking place near the wall. This coincided with our LES results. It would be a meaningful basis to understand combustion instability of hybrid rocket motor.

  • The noise itself that affects the sensor array is defined as the noise which happens in the place where the system is installed and the circumference noise which comes from the ocean. The array structure for detecting acoustic signal in the underwater effected turbulent layer flow noise. In this paper to design the conformal array spectral density function was introduced and several cases of flow induced noise which affect transfer function were simulated. Modified Corcos wall pressure model was used as turbulent boundary layer flow noise. The effect of noise has been reduced as integrated sum of transfer function has been reduced by decreasing elastomer thickness and density when kx is in low wave number area. Also the characteristics of transfer function by Corcos wall pressure displayed the product of frequency density function. This simulation results can be applied to the conformal array design in unmmaned underwater vehicle in the near future.

A New Overmodulation Strategy for PWM Inverter (PWM 인버터의 출력전압 향상을 위한 과변조 기법)

  • This paper proposes a new overmodulation stategy to give a better voltage by the full utilization of the hexagon voltage range in the space vector PWM(SVPWM) inverter. This overmodulation strategy can apply to the vector control, leading to better output torque capability in the ac motor drive system. This strategy is that in the overmodulation range, the d-axis output current is given a priority to regulate the flux well, instead the q-axis output curent is sacrificed. Therefore, the vector control even in the overmodulation PWM operation can be achieved well. For this purpose, the d-axis output voltage of a current controller to control the flux is conserved. the q-axis output voltage to control the torque is controlled to place the reference voltage vector on the hexagon boundary in case of the overmodulation. The validity of the proposed overall scheme is confirmed by simulation and experiments for a 22[kW] induction motor drive system

A Case Study on the Design of Tunnel Excavation in Geological Anomalies (터널굴착시 지질이상대 통과방안 설계사례 연구)

  • As a result of the detailed site investigation performed for the design of a 4.3 km long tunnel, geological anomalies of four fault zones and a rock boundary were discovered on the tunnel route. Most of all, it was confirmed that pyrite, which may corrode steel material, is contained inside the geological anomalies, and pressured ground water flows out of the fault fractured zone. To overcome these geological conditions, antisulfur concrete for the concrete lining and anticorrosive swelling rock bolts are designed in the pyrite-containing sections. For the sections where a great amount of groundwater outflows, water blocking methods including grouting are applied according to the result of numerical analyses on the seepage. In addition, since the past earthquakes occurred around Korea have take place mainly near fault zones, seismic analyses were performed based on the Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) concept and the strength of concrete tunnel lining is designed to be 27 MPa from 24 MPa in order to reinforce the tunnel structure.

  • In recent large-scale structures, as mass concrete type structure is frequently applied to the building, temperature crack due to hydration heat needs to be considered. Since a volume change is internally or externally restricted in a mold after placing concrete, temperature crack of mass concrete takes place. By this reason, the reduction method to control this crack is required. In this study, low heat mixture and hydration heat difference is used to execute the analysis of hydration heat, considering the changes of heat transfer coefficient according to curing conditions and block placement of mass concrete. For the analytical modelling, original portland cement and concrete of low heat mixture are placed in the upper and lower payer, respectively. A convection boundary condition is fixed because mass concrete of block placement is characterized by the difference of mold form and curing condition. Through the analysis results considering the changes of low heat mixture, block placement, and heat transfer coefficient, we check out the temperature and stress distribution and analyze the temperature crack reduction effect.

Residents' Perceptions of Tourism Impacts on Soraksan National Park (설악산(雪岳山) 국립공원(國立公園) 지역주민(地域住民)의 관광영향(觀光影響) 지각(知覺))

  • The purposes of this study were to understand the resident' attitudes toward national parks and to identify the residents' perceptions of tourism and the influence of socioeconomic characteristics on their response. In winter of 1997, 153 questionnaires were obtained from a convenience sample of households within Soraksan National Park boundary. The residents perceived both positive and negative environmental and economic impacts of tourism, however, they were reluctant to attribute social costs to tourism. Despite some negative tourism impacts, most of the residents supported additional tourism development and disagreed to limit the number of visitors. Their perceptions of tourism impacts were varied with age, education level, economic dependency on tourism, place of residence, and length of residence.

  • The High-tensile steel has been recognized as a promising concept for structural design of light weight transportation systems such as aircraft high speed trains and fast ships. Using the high-tensile steel has been widely used in ship structures, and this enables to reduce the plate thickness. Using the high-tensile steel effectively for a ship hull, the plate thickness becomes thin so that plate buckling may take place. Therefore, precise assessment of the behavior of plate above primary buckling load is important. In this study, examined closely secondary buckling behavior after initial buckling of thin plate structure which operated compressive load according to the various kinds of yield stress with simply supported boundary condition. Analysis method is F.E.M by commercial program(ANSYS V7.1) and complicated nonlinear behaviour can analyze using art-length method about secondary buckling.

Community structure and distribution of ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) in Sobaeksan National Park, Korea

  • The ground beetles collected during the investigation period were nine subfamilies, 24 genera, 51 species, and 3504 ground beetles. Species richness was high in Pterostichinae has 24 species (47%), Harpalinae nine species (17.6%), Carabinae six species (11.8%), and Lebiinae three species (5.9%). Overall dominant species was Synuchus agonus, and dominance index was 0.361. Synuchus agonus was investigated as the dominant species in both Namcheon Valley and Geumseon Valley. Regarding subdominant species, it was Synuchus nitidus (52 individuals, 12.6%) and Synuchus cycloderus (52 individuals, 12.6%) in the order in Namcheon Valley, and it was Pterostichus orientalis orientalis (660 individuals, 21.3%) and Pterostichus audax (378 individuals, 12.2%) in the order in Geumseon Valley. Total species diversity index of ground beetles in Sobaeksan National Park was 2.917. By area, the number of collected ground beetles was smaller in Namcheon Valley than in Geumseon Valley. Sobaeksan National Park is located at the boundary of northern and southern parts in Korea and is a very important place in terms of geography and climate. Sobaeksan has been designated as a national park, and its ecosystem is relatively preserved well. If continuous investigation of basic data for ground beetles is conducted through long-term monitoring, the data can be used as key data to research mutual relationship with organisms, effects by climate change, and ecosystem change depending on human activities.
